I am offended. Not by the actual stunt itself, mind you, but by her complete lack of balls to back it up.
Representatives for the singer, whose 48th birthday is today, have said the scene is not disrespectful toward the church.
If she's making some kind of grandiose statement about Christianity, then just come out with it already. But don't have your representatives try to spin that it's somehow not disrespectful to Christianity. Of course it's disrespectful to Christianity! You're singing some mindless pop drivel while mimicking the central figure of the most popular religion in the world. How is that not disrespectful?

Don't get me wrong. There are plenty of legit reasons to disrespect Christianity. All I ask is that you back it up. This dumb twat is just trying to stir up controversy for controversy's sake. It's not only insulting to Christianity, but also to people who might actually have a legitimate statement to make about (or even against) Christianity.

If she's not disrespecting Christianity, then the only other explanation is that she's trying to use it as a metaphor or allegory about how she's been "crucified" or persecuted in some way. That is even more ridiculous. She is the wealthiest, most powerful female entertainer on the planet outside of maybe Oprah. Who in the hell is persecuting her? She pretty much has a free pass in the music biz. Madonna could put out an album of her queefs and not only would it go multi-platinum, but we'd have critics explaining to us how daring, fresh, and groundbreaking it is.

Fuck that dried-up old hag. Her looks are almost gone, and the only way she can stay in the public eye is by performing ridiculous stunts like this. What a joke.

If I was Catholic, I would favor excommunicating the bitch. Since I'm not, I prefer to continue to ignore her.

All the "outraged" clergy are doing in calling for her excommunication is giving that has-been hag free publicity.

As mvs pointed out, it's not like she's really a member of the denomination. She's probably done enough shit to excommunicate herself (which is how most folks, myself included, do it) to make the current point moot.
