Posting pretty pics won't make the ass kicking Cal is going to get by the Vols/SEC any less painful.

I hate to say this, but I'm going with Cal on this one. I also predict MANY will pick Cal in the Pick'em Games and use the excuse of "I think they'll cover" as I see tennessee being the fave at home.
I don't think Cal is "all that." I think Tennessee "ain't shit." Call will prove it. And they wil prove they ain't "all that" later in the season.

Frisco... this is the most talented team I've ever seen at Cal.
Tennessee was ranked #3 in the country last year to start the season...before poor qb play(which Cal can relate too).
This one will be a "War"!!!

Hey man, I understand your optimism. Hell, I think A&M has a pretty good shot at being 9-0 going into the OU game and 10-0 going into the Neb game (both in College Station).
Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if we lost the first game to The Citadel.
What I am saying is this...at the beginning of the season, ALL teams have kinks to work out. I think Cal is more seasoned than Tennessee. I don't give a flying fuck what Tennessee's rank was last year preseason. Arizona is in that company too a few years back.
I don't think Cal is a GREAT team. I think Tennessee is an average team and Cal is an above average team who will win in Knoxville. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Cal blow them out.
That's my take and I'm stickin' to it.

i will LMAO if CAL Wins at Tennetucky.
if Tennetucky has ANOTHER ole'Miss type of year...then Fullmer might get his ticket punched to go to Ann Arbor!!!!
Cal winning in Knoxville SHOULD Be "unfathomable."
it Could Happen.

1. Cal will win in Knoxville.
2. Is there a gayer name for a cfb locale than "strawberry canyon". I'm sure it's a recruiting tool for Tedford.

The key to the game will be whether Ainge (or whomever is QBing for the Vols) can throw the ball against the Cal defense. Tenn isn't going to win on the running game alone.
Tenn has won its last 5 opening nonconference home games by a combined score of 163-49 (Syracuse, Wyoming, Fresno, UNLV and UAB). Cal has also done well against non conference opponents in recent years, though they include traditional non-powers New Mexico State and Air Force (the Cal Web site schedules only go back to 2004).
Lots of folks seem to think this will be a low-scoring game. There's also rumors that Fulmer isn't very happy with Ainge nor confident in many of his second-team players.
So which UT team shows up ... the one that beat LSU on the road or the one that lost to SCarolina at home last year?
Barring an early injury or a couple of early turnovers leading to scores, I'll take the former Tennessee team -- pumped up for this game -- along with 105,000 screaming 'necks.
20-17

Tennessee by at least 14. No way in hell they lose to these punks at Neyland.

I think Cutcliff will play a huge role in this game. Having him back on the sidelines (or in the box) keeps that fat fuck Fulmer away from calling any plays, and he will dramatically improve Eric Ainge to the point where he will actually look like a SEC QB.
The game is at Tennessee, before the UF game so Tenn will not lose.

I'm going to have to go w/ the home team. Cal has never seen a stadium louder than Neyland.

I just don't think I could pull the trigger on an "upset" like this unless Cal had at LEAST one or two games under their belt. I imagine this is why many teams schedule a weak "mid major" as their first game of the season - so they can work the rust off, and get into a flow, establish chemistry, etc. But to expect Cal, as their first game of the season, to go into one of the most intimidating stadiums in the country, and pull out a win? Just can't see it.

Yeah. For the record, mtool, we've all seen your googled scenery pics 1,654,337,887 times. No need to throw them up any further...unless they have specific relevance, which is not something that comes easy for you.

game to watch to open the season??? considering tOSU vs Texas is the second game of their respective seasons...that means those 17% are fucking idiots...
I will guarantee you if UT vs KAL was the same weekend as tOSU vs Texas it would be 80/20 the other way dolt...
GO FUCKING VOLUNTEERS...

You can't see the golden gate bridge from Neyland stadium. This is why Kal will win the MNC this year for the ninth time in a row.

Mark it down: Kal will shit down their legs vs. Tennecleats, but will still make it to the BCS Championship game in El Paso on Dec. 29th.

If Tedford actually plays both Aboob and Longshore, like he's been talking this past week, then I predict
Tennessee 24 Cal 17
If Longshore plays the whole way
Cal 27 Tennessee 24
If Aboob gets the start
Tennessee 27 Cal 14
Posted: Fri Aug 25, 2006 6:30 pm
by indyfrisco
So Tennessee will score 24 whether it is just Longshore or Longshore and Ayoob? But if it is Ayoob ONLY, Tennessee will score 27?
Posted: Fri Aug 25, 2006 6:41 pm
by JayDuck
Yes, If Aboob starts, Cal will move the ball less, giving Tennessee more possessions and better field position. Cal should have a very good defense though, and I'm little more sold on Ainge than Aboob, so I don't think it will account for more than a field goal, for Tennessee.
With Aboob at the helm, you can expect an early turnover, with the Tennessee opening day crowd, and Cal will get down early. Tennessee should run the ball and coast to a win rather than risk Ainge testing Cal's defense.
Posted: Fri Aug 25, 2006 6:47 pm
by indyfrisco
What I was getting at was the Tennessee score of 24 whether it was just Longshore or Longshore and Ayoob.
Posted: Fri Aug 25, 2006 6:52 pm
by JayDuck
I'm going off of the assumption that Longshore & Aboob still means that Longshore will start and Aboob will only get a few series, not a 50/50 split. I don't see that in resulting in anything other than less points for Cal.

Picks will be made Monday as this will be the #1 game in the Pick'em Games.
@#$?!
I thought tradition held that the first game of the pick'em was RICE v Cougar High? You know, get everyone on the board at least somewhat interested in a RICE game once a year. No problem though as I will bring RICE back as the #1 game later in the season.

9/23 Rice V FSU, definiately the feature Game. A battle of epic proportions. What better pairing for "game #1".
Good to see you back around Lefty.

Fwiw, these would be my suggestions as to the #1 game in the Pick'em by week, subject to change:
- Cal @ Tennessee
- tOSU @ Texas
- LSU @ Auburn (although any of a number of games would be worthy of being #1 this week)
- PSU @ tOSU
- tOSU @ Iowa
- Texas vs. Oklahoma
- Auburn @ Florida
- Texas @ Nebraska
- Georgia vs. Florida
- Virginia Tech @ Miami
- Georgia @ Auburn
- Michigan @ tOSU
- ND @ USC
- Army vs. Navy
With one obvious exception, this would match up (at least for the time being) the two highest-ranked teams going head-to-head in each particular week. The downside, of course, is that a number of teams appear quite frequently: four times for tOSU, three times each for Texas and Auburn.
Edit: after seeing Nolesy's post, I'd be willing to replace the week 4 game with FSU-Rice. That way, no team is in the #1 game more than three times.

Terry,
I am an Aggie. Lefty is married to an Aggie. Lefty has had an affinity for t.u. all his life. Lefty makes the picks on what game is #1 each week.
All that being said, and if you have played the game before, A&M/t.u. is ALWAYS game #1 on the week of T+1. ALWAYS.

And up until this year the Bayou Bucket was always #1 to start the season. But I do like Nolesy's suggestion of the RICE v FSU game. We will have to see if that game is on ESPN or something though as it has to be a national TV game. I do know that RICE v Texas is on ESPN 2.
