Good grief, Breaker. Nic Cage isn't in your league, to be sure, but he's not that bad.

That's funny. I had the same reaction when I saw they were doing a remake.

The original is one of my favorites. I haven't seen any trailer stuff for this new thing yet.

I thought they crossed a line when they redid The Manchurian Candidate. Why do they have to fucking rehash everything? Why can't they just stick to remaking Superman every decade?

Does someone actually think that the new Wicker Man will be a good movie? Are they fucking stoned?

Also...I guess I wasn't paying close attention. When exaclty did Nicholas Cage become such a moron? He used to be quirky, dark, etc. Raising Arizona, Vampire's Kiss, Moonstruck, Wild at Heart...dude used to be good. WTF?

I have to admit my first thought, and it's probably part of why I thought the parody trailer was so funny, was "They needed to remake that?" How are you going to improve on Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee? I mean, Cage is good, Ellen Burstyn is good...but better than those guys? I think not.

Thank God for this board. Now I know that not all Americans are fuckwits.

I hope some Scottish urchins ram the Salmon Of Knowledge (played by Jess) up Nicholas Cage's untalented ringpiece. Fuck Hollywood and its creative bankruptcy.

Another thing...the original was so much built around the idea that modern-day island Scots had preserved a pagan religious tradition, including human sacrifice, lasting over centuries, if not millennia. Pretty wild idea, but not unbelievable. Moving the story to Washington inevitably makes it lose something in translation...unless you make the islanders Indians errrrr native Americans, maybe. For some reason, I'm guessing Warners would never have gone for that.

There's just no remotely plausible rationale, face it.

The thing about Hollywood...there's actually a lot of creative talent there, but it doesn't get an opportunity to come to the fore. The movie business is a closed circle. Whatever lame ass idea you might end up with will be a go, as long as the people involved have the ins with the right people.

An industry that can look at a 50 million dollar profit and decide that it's not enough is a sick, decaying industry.

The only question left, after they have remade The Wicker Man and the Manchurian Candidate, is this...what path can they possibly take to a new low? How can they possibly be lamer than this? They'll find a way, though...

I Googled and there are multiple bloggers/board posters who titled their posts on the new "Wicker Man" "Oh, God! Oh, Jesus Christ!"
