OT...slightly. My 10 yr. old's 40 time at 1st day of FB

This may be a bit off topic but my 10 year old son reported for 6th and 7th grade football and they weighed in and got timed in the 40. He ran a 6.8 and weighed in at 93 lbs. He's lean and strong and I think he's pretty quick for his age. He's shifty, too.

I had to work today, so his mom took him. I was unable to compare his time to the other kids there and of course a woman isn't going to pay much attention to important life matters such as these, ha ha. Just curious how you all think he stacks up to kids his age. He got all his gear today and is completely jacked up about it. I'm ready to take my old ass out in the yard with him and get banged up!!!

You guys are bullshittin' right? I ran a 4.75 in high school and am curious how a 6.8 stacks up for a 10 year old. I'm thinking he's going to be faster than me when he matures. He's already got 10 lbs. on me at that age and he's very lean. I guess I'm as excited to see him playing full contact football as I am about the upcoming Husker fb season. Kid's got excellent coordination and he already loves the game.

He has the genetics to be a baller. (thanks to mom) You all will think I'm full of shit when I tell you this, but his mom's great uncle is Daryl Johnson. Who's Daryl Johnson? The guy who played with Mantle in the 50's (catcher) and later coached the 1976 Boston Red Sox to the world series. I'm dead serious.

I haven't been this excited since I got my first car. Something about seeing your boy play the game you love and having hopes that one day he'll suit up in Lincoln, NE!!!

Seriously, I would suggest you pay a visit to the boys coach. He could probably give you alot of insights as far as peer comparisons.

I could only hope Lemming will know who he is someday, ha ha. As for talking to his coach.....I don't know who that is yet because after weigh-ins and running the 40, the coaches draft their players. Had I been there, I would have timed every kid who looked remotely quick my own self!

SoCal, I ain't been around much in over a year. I used to be a regular dating back to 98 or 99 I think. Who is Phoenix Rob? Some troll or pathological liar? No shit on Darryl Johnson (Not Moose of the Cowboys) being a relative of my boy on his mom's side. I just think it's cool that he's linked to a guy who played with Mantle, Berra, Maris, etc.. and coached a MLB team to the world series. Her family has all kinds of baseballs signed by Yankee, Red Sox, Angels teams and a ton of other memorabilia dating back to the 50's. Johnson coached the Mariners for awhile too and retired as a scout for the Angels. Minor celebrity but I think it's cool.

At this point I would'nt worry to much about his " combine scores". Rather I would focus on instilling in him the basic fundamentals. IMO, the soundest fundamental is to keep your head up while tackling.

Btw, it is cool that he is tied to some one who played with mantle. Perhaps this will help him with his drinking when he grows up.
