I guess Jack McDowell, Cy Young award winner for the Chicago White Sox, he'd be the first guy to come to mind. I grew up with him in Little League and then we both went to the same high school. I was a little older than him though so he was still on the JV team when I was on the varsity.

Also, our left fielder, Harper LaBell (sp?), he ended up bouncing around the NFL for ten years or so as a long snapper.

Oh, and yeah, Socal would crap down my neck if I failed to mention my having played against Barry White's kid...

Stan Belinda was a couple years older than me. We used to have huge pickup football games. I was surprised that Stan was the one who ended up a pro athlete...two of his brothers made it onto PSU's football team (backups), and Stan seemed like the smallest. I bet lot of Pirate fans wish he never became a pro athlete...

I never played football but I did play baseball against T.J. Duckett my freshman year...struck him on three pitches in a relief appearance.

Played on the same team in 4th grade with Tom Cousineu ( sure the spelling) is wrong.
Actually we both played inside linebacker in the 5-4 little league defense.
His carreer took off a little quicker than mine.

Best I can think of was Ronnie and Grant Heard. Both were on my Little League All Star Baseball Team. I played football with them a bit later.

Ronnie made his mark as a DB for Ole Miss. His little brother, Grant, was a WR for Ole Miss.

Ronnie played for San Francisco 49ers as a Safety from 2000-2004 and for Atlanta in 2005. I don't think he's on a team anymore.

The only guy I can remember who made it to the NFL from my high school days was Pat Kelly. He was a QB in high school, went to Syracuse and converted to TE, then went to the Denver Broncos and was their starting TE until he ripped up his knee badly in the '89 AFC championship game vs. the Browns, and never played afterward.

He wound up working on Wall Street. Sadly, he succumbed to cancer a few years back. His funeral was held in Rochester, and in a moment truly worthy of Zysdale, his funeral brought Monica Lewinsky, with whom he had become friendly in NYC, to town.

Van, we're rivals as far as high schools go. In fact they are now in the same league again along with Loyola and Amat. I'm doing the ND game vs. Canyon this week at Canyon. If you live locally you should check it out.

I played little league against Mike Fetters but I coached several guys who went on to play D-1 football and a couple who had some stints in the NFL. Christian Fauria is one that comes to mind right away.

Lax, back when I was there at ND teams like Bishop Amat or Mater Dei were nowhere on our radar and Canyon (Canyon Country) might as well've been on Pluto. I think they were C.I.F. like us but we were never going to run across anybody out in Santa Clarita.

Pretty much, it was always Crespi, St Francis and Loyola.

in playoffs, i hit Butler Bynote(who later added an ') shin high, he was at full speed and flipped onto his head. play stopped for almost 20 minutes, they thought he suffered a spinal injury, he gained feeling back but never returned to game. my claim ot fame, especially cause by'note went on to have a nice career at OSU.



we always got stuck playing against the thug schools in first round. nothing like playing on dirt fields, with 6 inch chalk lines, and gangbangers threatening you while you were on sidelines.

I played against some damn good football players

San Antonio Holmes High: Keith & Kerry Cash UT- each played for a couple of NFL teams.

Johnny Walker: UT/ Never made it to the NFL but he married a very hot girl I was good friends with.

Chris Pryor - Texas Tech = probably the best runningback to come out of Texas in the 80's. Too bad he was such a dumbass, played one semester of college ball and never went back. He was a Texas high school legend.

Nobody really of note in football, but Damon Stoudamire was on my high school basketball team.

Seer, I was on the JVs as a freshman in '79 and I was on the varsity from 80-82. Jack McDowell was a freshman on the JVs during my senior year.

The usual heartbreaking shit, back then. My sophomore year we were in the playoffs and I was in left field and we were one out away from advancing to a game at Dodger Stadium, which would've been a very big deal to me. Bases loaded, we're up by three and some guy on the other team lines a single to center. Our center fielder, Jim Micelli, he has a brain freeze and rather than playing it safe he decides to try and end the game with a diving catch...

...which never stood a chance.

He dives, he doesn't come close, the ball rips on by behind him and there we go, myself and the right fielder, tearing ass into deep center after the ball.

Too late. Inside the park grand slam. We lose.

We never made it that deep into the playoffs again during my next two years. The year after I graduated though we were ranked #1 in the nation behind Jack McDowell.
