Moving and I need to ship my shit

Relocating from Las Vegas back to Indiana for work, and need a cheap way to move my shit. PODS wont deliver to my new zip code, and Uhaul is going to charge me $2,400, not to mention gas.
I don't have a lot to move, mostly a cal king bed, dresser, night stand, desk, exercise bike. All the other shit I can either get rid of or fit in my car.

Buy an old beater truck for 1000 and sell it when you get to Indiana.

Just head on over to the all-night truck stop, and announce yourself as "THE Mike Backer". The Mavs fans will line up to offer assistance.

Drive the Uhaul yourself and tow your car. No way does Uhaul charge $2400 for you to drive yourself across country and return their truck.

Actualy, they do.

The more I think about it, the more donating all that shit to a charity and taking a tax deduction sounds like a good idea.

That is sounding damn good to me too BSmack. No way I should spend $900 to move $1600 worth of furniture.

You can get some of your stuff there on the cheap by mailing it "book rate."

Since your going from one of the areas where most people move TO, and going to a shithole like Indiana, where no one wants to go, all the fucking trucks are stuck in Vegas.
A few years back when all those Cailfornia cocksuckers were moving up here, people would fly up here, rent the truck and drive it back to CA and save about $ 1,000.
I vote for donating it.

One word.......Penske...stay the fuck away from U-Haul.
I have first hand knowledge (saw it with my own eyes)of shoddy workmanship in the repair/inspection shops..went into a local UH store, was redirected to the shop to find the guy I had spoken with on the phone..saw a couple of mechs pencil-whipping safety reports, the sort of reports that get sent to the Dept. of Trans...guy I need to talk to rolls back into the shop..he had been out in the storage yard with the head tech..both had recently been smoking the tree..I could smell the stuff on them and both were bloodshot eyed..no way do I ever rent a UH vehicle.

Wow...I had Bekins load up a full size trailer THEMSELVES. All I did was pack 99% of my shit. They packed some breakables such as glass table tops and our Thomas Kincade protrait.
They came into my house, took all the boxes, appliances, BBQ pits, everything. We had a 5 bedroom/4 bathroom house and they moved it ALL from Dallas to Rural Indiana and unloaded it all into whatever rooms we wanted for $4800.

Bran, Y2K told me to throw away all of the shit I could replace. I have a truck so renting a trailer was only $550 from NJ to CA. Gas during the $3+ range to move 2400 miles was only $400. Jack and I spent more on fireworks in New Mexico than the trip... if I remember that correctly.
If you have a lot of shit, throw it away. Trust me, I don't miss anything I threw away or sold on e-Bay. I can put everything I own (while looking like the Clampettes driving to Beverly Hills) into my truck and a U-Haul trailer.
Your trip should take no longer than 2 days max. Pack all of your stuff yourself, get the big Sharpie and lable the contents of the box on the side.
First thing though, throw away shit you haven't dealt with in a year. It sucks at first, but you won't miss it a week later.
Also, take pictures of your trip and post them. Driving across country is a blast!

Fuck spell check. We need a fag check. Any way we can get some kind of software that will scan a post for faggoty phrases? Kinda like the green underline in Word when you have bad sentence structure?

Bran,
What kind of car do you have? Maybe you could pull a trailer behind your car?

So you are in a rush to leave the fastest growing city in the States, and return to Hicksville. In so much of a hurry, you can't scan a paper, make a decision, and buy a beater. That's what 1 hour? Interesting.
I'd burn the fucking lot, you obviously have someone chasing you. Move to New Hampshire, like
The Sopranos

2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. Old sales car I just kept since it's paid for. The trailer is out. I'm just donating my shit to Goodwill, I'll snatch an overpriced receipt for my taxes and be done with it.

Check these guys out:

Mayflower wanted $8800 to move the OL and I to Texas and it was something like five grand to rent the big U-haul for a one-way move. ABF charges you only for the linear feet that you use in their van. If your shit only takes up five linear feet of trailer, that's all you pay for, even if the rest of it goes empty to Indiana. Anywho, we ended up paying $2436. No other form of moving came close.

Mike, those must have been "in season" rates. I rented a 26' U-Haul to move to Jersey and it was a little under $2400.
Anyway, Bran said he's jamming out tomorrow for home. Wish him well and a safe trip. He'll start feeling good once he starts travelling.
