From his bio on MLB...
. . . legally changed his name from John to Boof, a nickname since childhood, after 2001 season.
I knew there was no way he was named that as a kid. Baseball always has those funny names...Pee Wee (Reese), Whitey (Ford), Catfish (Hunter), Skeeter (Barnes), Trot (Nixon), Nook (Logan)...

I do agree that the names Coco Crisp and Milton Bradley are a bit suspicious in nature. Boof is supposed to eventually be the third Orange and Black regret per the Pierzynski trade. I'm wondering if there'll be any Giant salvage at all from that one.

That was a 3-for-1 trade, correct? The Giants let Pierzynski walk the next year and sign with the White Sox. Now look at Pierzynski in Chicago...he's still a bastard but he's a bastard with a championship ring.

Yes. The Giants also got cash in the deal (yeah, that's always a good thing to get in a trade, right? ;) ). Also, when Pierzynski was with SF, he set a record for GIDP by a left handed hitter. All round horrid trade for SF. Well, at least since AJ left in the offseason, we now have Fonzie behind the plate. ;)

I guess all of the 'sessing over the Yankees payroll caused you to miss his first start a month into the season.
