Bitch move to be sure. Shut the hell up and beat the team from the MAC.
On the same note the Conf Commish from the MAC should shut his hole too. He pointed out that 7 of the 12 schools have graduation rates above 70%. On the surface that is great, but remember grad rates are relative. His member schools are allowing athletes into school who can barely graduate HS, yet they graduate at a better rate. Hmmmm, makes you wonder what the hell they require of their students to graduate.
I wouldn't want a diploma from a MAC school hanging on my wall today.

To be fair some of those kids do actually start busting their ass in college after half-assing it in high school. I know some former bad students that got their act together as well as some ex-honor-roll guys who went to hell once they got away from home. Plus these guys tend to have easy majors, C-averages, and tutors. It isn't like the kids are going from prop48's to dean's list mechanical engineers. Most programs in the country churn out some 2.4GPA Communications Major graduates. Ya Rice doesn't, props, but the average NCAA 1A school can't throw stones in this department.
Oh, and Chuck? That is the lamest crap I have ever heard. Even Lou Holtz wouldn't play the "academic standards" card after such a losing to a minor-league team.

Daminal,
You are correct there are isolated cases, but not enough to make a mark in grad rates. I will be happy to post again what causes someone to become a prop 48 or partial qualifier.
Again, if "student athletes" can't make the HS grades they don't belong in college programs, at least D1-A programs. Playing D1-A football isn't a right, rather it is an honor.
