Up 3 with a minute to go at Missouri you come out of a time out in a 2-3 zone?
Take his ass.
Missouri has faltered before the zone consistently. We were beating the Gayhawks until tey busted out a zone halfway through the 2nd and Quin & Co. acted like they never saw such a thing. K St. also confounded us with a zone. Our outside shooting is the worst in the conference and the slashers don't know how to dismantle a zone. Looks like practice finally sunk in with the Mizzou players.
This is the first game I've seen where the penetration leads to an inside dish and easy bucket. Most of these undisciplined kids opt for the contested or impossible shot. As I said, Kelvin was only countering what he saw on every tape.

I was thinking of giving up Kelvin for an entirely different reason... like his allowing Terrell Everett to get minutes as opposed to the mintue he deserves.

Not Sampson's fault that your boys can't function in a zone. Hell, even K-State whopped Mizzou with zone.

Earlier today, I was wondering why there were no Sooner fans talking about the game with Missouri.
I watched the game, and I don't think it was the somewhat ineffective zone defense that lost the game for the Sooners. I thought that Missou had their way with the Sooners offensively just a bit of the game, but it was only on some hitting streaks, not enough to win a whole game.
What lost the game for the Sooners was the lack of getting the ball to Bookout and Gray on offense. They got defended well in the post and started relying on perimeter offense when their big guns are the way they beat people. What the hell are they thinking...these big guys can beat almost anyone in the NCAA, they need to find a way to get the ball in their hands!
Now you all know I come from the Eddie Sutton school of thought that everything starts from defense, and you gotta have that offense at the other end of the court. And I think the Missou defense really got their team going because they found the chink in the OU armor when the Sooners were passing around the backcourt instead of going into their money guys. Missou got a hell of a lot of stops on defense. After they shut that down, their offense got a shot of an idea that they could actually win it and got way hot on some shots they were probably wishing for all year.
Quin saw it and ran with it, props to him for taking a team so down and realizing they had a shot to take down a big one.
I wouldn't give up on Kelvin Sampson right now, but I would hope that right about now ...he knows that his money is in the front court, cause it looked in that game that he didn't quite get that across.

Enough. I will bitch about the reffing at home. Sampson is one hell of a coach.
He will get this team fired up and they will make a late season run.
In the end I don't think this version of the Sooners is as talented as some predicted.
I love Lavender, but he is just too much of a defensive liability.
What Oklahoma lacks is a scorer, a Corey Brewer, a Nolan Johnson someone that can create.

The mighty Quinn is now a masterful 2-8 vs Kelvin, he definatly owns him huh?
P.S. MO Corey is the man. He could have killed people if he was willing to put the blunt down long enough to develope :?

Kelvin's style works. We have all seen it work. I think the issues are with the players on the squade not the coaching staff. If we get rid of KS it will be the biggest mistake OU has made in bball and we have made alot of them.

What is crazy is that I failed to notice this thread was a year old until players that are gone were mentioned.
It was time for a change.
