What the replay official saw

Apparently, the replay official only got one view of the play to watch, due to a delay getting him the feed.

I'm sure some of you have seen that one angle, where an optical illusion, makes it look like the ball hits the OU player's helmet. Well, that's the view he got.

Image

Because its a 2D picture, when the ball gets to OU's #19's helmet, and he gets blocked at the same time, it looks like it hit his helmet, because the ball appears to change directions too. Again, it obviously doesn't happen this way, if you can see the other views, but in this one it does look like that. And this is the only angle he saw.

And, again, I know Sooner fans are going ballistic with the death threats and hate mail to the refs and Oregon collumnists, but its really time to chill. This was not one of the worst screwing in history. Not even close.

It was a really bad, horrible call, but the reason it wasn't one of the worst is simple. There was still quite a bit of football to be played.

there have been tons of calls, in lots of sports, where the officials have gotten it wrong on the final play of the game. Every single one of those poor calls were worse than Saturday's call. Because there was over a minute left to play, in the this one, which is quite a bit of football left.

And even after all the numerous calls, throughout history that have ended sports contests, there have been others that were still worse because the team that got "screwed" never had a chance to score again.

Once again, that was not the case here. If we had milked the clock down to nothing and strolled into the endzone with the clock hitting triple zeros, it would have been. But, Oklahoma had the ball at around the 30 yard line with over 20 seconds left (which, oddly enough, was enough time for Oregon to score a TD, against the Oklahoma defense, from 50 yards out).

Again, this was a bad call, but will not go down as anything close to one of the worst in history, because it didn't end the game and Oklahoma still had chances. Its not even close.

Any number of teams that have gotten hosed on last second calls, would love to have the opportunities the Sooners had after their call went wrong.

I can list at least 4 ahead of this that mattered much more.

1) 5th Down
2) The 'Clock Game" at MSU
3) The "Kick" Missouri - Nebraska 1997
4) MSU's Interference against Desmond Howard

I agree. Death threats are freakin' ridiculous. This is a game.

Having said that, it's also a matter of responsibility. I DO happen to think that this is the worst screwing that I've ever seen, and it has very little to do with the fact that it happened to OU. My problem with it, and my case for it being such, is this:

-- 1) They have Instant Replay. How many of those other games listed had it?
-- 2) Even with Instant Replay, they got not one, but TWO calls wrong.
-- 3) MULTIPLE people got the calls wrong, both on the field initially, AND after multiple replays. NOBODY saw Allen Patrick run off with the ball? NOBODY saw the pass get tipped on the P.I. call.
-- 4) It happened at the team who got the call's stadium, with their home conference refs making said call...
-- 5) The EXACT same thing happened to us last year... (Twice... in the same game, on the home team's field... with a hometown official.)

I think that the only two that come to mind that come close are the 5th Down game and the 1984 OU / Tejas game.

I don't think that the OU / Oregon game should be stricken from the record. I DO think that the "officials" involved should be fired. Anybody who is that biased, which they HAD to be... (either biased, or at the VERY least, imcompetent, but either way) ...does not need to be working in a position where literally millions of dollars are at stake.

Last year, the Tech game...? Big deal. We were a three-loss team at the time anyway. It sucked. It was a BLATANT screwjob, but whatever. This year, though, this has the potential to cost us a BCS game. For that matter, due to the fallout, it (wrongly) has the potential to cost Oregon a better bowl game... if some bowl guy blames Oregon for this (and I do not, by the way) they may hold that against them... just as voters (wrongly) may.

If the "officials" involved are fired and never allowed to officiate again, I'd be fine with that outcome. If that fucks up their Christmas, so be it, 'cause they fucked up mine.

So did OU fire the clock operator that intentionally jobbed Texas Tech out of a W a few years back?? I'm asking because I don't know for certain but believe they didn't. Replay was available and is able to be utilized for clock situations.

Point being, Sooner Nation needs to quit being a bunch of crying pussies and move on.

Hey. Welcome. We've already disspelled the "clock myth." (You know, the part about the ball leaving Hollis' hand before the clock would have gone off anyway...) Also, considering what happened at Tech in football, which you may not know about because you only follow Tech for basketball, I'd say Tech has re-taken the lead on OU in this one...

Sorry I haven't posted much here lately. I forgot that if another poster who is also a fan of your favorite team posts some information that is false and inaccurate that it turns into gospel truth. The REAL truth is that if you take away the clock errors that were caused by the homer OU operator Price would have maybe been able to reach half court before getting a shot attempt off. If you doubt that fact I could turn you on to about a dozen or so Kool-Aid drinking Knight worshippers who have the Zapruder style proof of this.

The point is, when OU jobbed another team they said "too bad, so fucking sad" and wanted to move on. Now that they're on the other side of the equation it's boo fucking hoo time and we demand reparations.

Again, quit being a bunch of crying pussies and move on.

Bingo.

Did you see OU president, coach, fan, say anything about not deserving to be in the MNC, when they lost to Kansas State 31- 6... in their Big 12 Championship Game?

I don't recall their president, coach, fan, ever writting a letter saying $C was more deserving and should play in the MNC, since they weren't even the best team in their conference.

In defense of OU fan... if you take away OU football, you take away the idenity of every citizen in the state of Oklahoma. There really isn't anything else to do in Oklahoma other than be a fan of OU football.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please refrain from making death threats and sending hate mail to the referees, no matter how bad the officiating is."
