Some quick hit thoughts

Post by Shine »

Been spending my limited net time on the IU board but still following the college hoops scene more than every other sport. I'm just excited we FINALLY have a legit coach on the sidelines at IU again.

- it will be a down year this year, but within 2 years the Big 10 will reclaim their rightful spot as the best hoops conference in the country

- BIG escalation looming in the IU/UI rivalry thanks to the recruitment of stud guard Eric Gordon, the best player in the 07 class. Grew up an IU fan but wanted no part of Mike Davis (can you blame him!!!) but now that IU has a coach he's looking hard at IU despite his verbal to the Illini

- if you want to beat UConn, Dook or tO$U this year you better do it early because by mid-February those teams will be tough as hell

- over the past 15 years the top 4 programs are certainly Dook, UNC, UConn and Kentucky. IU plays true road games at Dook, UConn and Kentucky this year and has the potential to play UNC on a neutral court in the preseason NIT

- going back to tO$U, there is talk that Oden will never suit up for them thanks to his wrist injury. Me thinks that won't happen but something to watch for sure

- ESPN cameras to be at IU for MM!!!!

More to come in the weeks ahead...

Shine, IIRC you were pretty luke warm on the Sampson hire back in the late spring? seems you're a little more enthusiastic now....or is it just still adios Mike Davis glee?

On March 28th on this board I wrote:
Me personally, when I look at all the guys realistically available I'm hard pressed to find someone who can trump:

- 2 national COY awards
- 72% winning percentage in a major conference for over a decade
- 3 straight conference tournament titles
- a trip to the FF

And a guy who year in and year out produced tough minded defensive teams.
I'm still not enamored with the fact that the coach at IU has NCAA violations on his resume but it is what it is and as long as he doesn't get any AS the IU coach things will be fine.
