I just picked up a new PC that came with this..1024MB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM.

It is expandable to 4gb.

New egg is selling a 512 stick for $65 or something like that but it says PC2-3200. Is that important to know?

Your new PC is using DDR2 RAM. Don't mix them up.

Does that have anything to do with PC2-3200?

Send me a link to the Newegg page, and give me a list of your computer specs.

I'm guessing you have an AM2 AMD-64 motherboard and processor, right?

Even if they are both DDR2 memory, by putting in a 3200 vs a 4200, you would be slowing down the speed of your current Ram. It's best to stay with the same speed and specs with memory so you can take full advantage of it all.
