"That's why you're Michigan State."

That was one of the most profound things I have ever heard a color man say, after Stanton fumbled the ball late in the fourth quarter. Herbstreit is quickly becoming a very, very good color man on the prime time ABC games. It's too bad that he's paired with Muffburger and that idiot hick Davie, a man so stupid he can't even get his accent right.
For MGO and Screw_Michigan, I'm sorry MSU went MSU before they usually do. But for all the other classless MSU fans, including their head coach, fucking suck it. I loved the fact that you lost the way you did, and I'm glad it was Stanton who caused most of the heart ache.
Rack Weis for taking the team over to the ND students to sing the Alma Matter, while John Lansing had his band of idiots guarding the 50.

That was a pretty harsh statement by Fowler but the MichiganFan in me chuckled.

He was repeating what Herbstreit said during the game.

Serious question, did they honestly think that ND was going to plant a flag on the field?

No way Charlie would have let that happen.
RACK that meltdown. And Rack the Irish for taking advantage of it.

That's usually how their seasons start. They'll win the first few games and everything will bright and sunny. But when they blow that first game, the wheels come completely off and they end up with another .500 season. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

True, but I also don't think ND had a back hoe ready to dig a hole in the fake grass.
I did like seeing Samardzija bump into Stanton after the interception for a TD and seeing him say, "Nice throw, bitch!"

Well, I'm sure that win has got to taste sweet for ND fan, for a lot of reasons.
And you earned every bit of it. State melting at the end of the game was pretty much a given, the question was going to be whether they could hang on at the very end. They couldn't, and ND took advantage of every bonehead MSU playcall and player mistake.
I expect Illinois to keep the game competitive next Sat since I'm sure State will not have fully recovered from this loss by then.

Hey, I thought you'd beat those clowns going into the game...I'm probably as stunned as SpartanFan is right now about what happened.

No, they don't. Hopefully with a fully recoverd James Aldridge and being able to work in some back-ups, ND can create some depth for next year. It will be interesting to see how Charlie handles these 7 games leading up to USC.
Mgo, honestly I feel for you. You're the anti-Babs (typical MSU fan) so I have a hard time being that big of a dick because of the win. And I fully admit, that game was equal parts ND coming back and JLS stepping on his own dick, time after time.

Being up 31-17, all I could think was, "Finally, back in the top 25. Plus, MSU will be undefeated for the UofM game as Illinois is basically a BYE. This will be sweet," and then BAM, everything comes crashing down all at once.

I was thinking pretty much the same....but in reverse, at 31-17.......

JLS should be fired based on his last two games against ND.

John L needs to realize he isn't in CON USA anymore. In the Big Ten, and against teams like ND, defense is actually required. Go figure? Like his old Louisville days, he wants to be able to hang 30+ points on the board and hope that's good enough to get the W.

That would have been better.
Wouldn't it be tough to plant a flag in a field that uses that vulcanized rubber turf?

If he continues to try to hang points, you can at least excuse some losses. But ND won the game this year and took MSU to overtime last year because JLS doesn't know how to coach from ahead when going against good teams.

I'd put a lot of the blame on the players too for poor execution. Almost as much, if not more, than John L. Stanton can look like Tom Brady for 3 quarters of football, and once it's time to wrap the deal up in the 4th, he starts throwing the ball, and making decisions like a chicken with its head cut off. I didn't mind the call to throw it on 3rd and 1 so much (State will pick this up 9 out of 10 times), I just didn't understand the decision to throw it basically deep and down the middle. Stanton needs to throw it to a receiver in the flat or option run it himself. Just because John L says, "hey go out and throw the ball when we should probably run" doesn't mean Stanton needs to start dropping picks left and right.

More like Tom Brady for 3 quarters.
Jan Brady in the 4th.

I didn't catch that second part until you posted it. What makes it all the funnier is that they missed our 50 last year. Didn't they plant the flag on our 35 or something?
Such a sad, sad statement for a once-proud program. Meanwhile Duffy Daugherty rolls in his grave . . .

State trailing the hapless Illini 10-3 at the half...might have to protect midfield again if things don't change in this one.

Illinois 23, Michigan State 20
Nice display at midfield afterwards...I think the Illini had something for that big S and SpartanPlayer didn't want any part of that. Why don't you play the game with as much intensity as you show when some team comes into your yard and slaps you in the face and then tries to plant a flag on their field. Now this wounded and emotional broken-down State team has to drag their asses over to the Big House next week for a potential embarrassment. I'm dying to hear the Mike Valenti meltdown on Monday.

Stanton is a monster...I can't say a bad thing about him. 82 yards on the ground and only one offensive TD against Illinois? State is a broken team...John LL can't get this team to respond after a tough loss and now they'll staring big brother in the face next week on the heals of two bad losses.

There's no doubt that Drew has some very good skills, yet, last I checked... the ability to NOT consistently make boneheaded, idiotic mistakes EVERY freakin' game is part of the QB equation.

You clearly don't watch much MSU football (not that I blame you). If you did, you'd know that MSU is the EPITOME of playing to the level of their competition. They're still good for a game or two this year.

I don't think they quit today but they are borderline on doing so. If MSU can't pull out of this tailspin soon their season and JLS are over.
