OT question for Okies

Any of you fine gentlemen ever been to Chickasaw National Recreation Area or know anything about it. Never been outside Texas too oftenand was thinking of heading up that way next year for a little vacation. If not are there are state or national parks one would recommend. All I need is a little water recreation and some hook ups for an RV.

Well, when you can visit places full of snow, sun, beaches, hills, desert, forrests, lakes, oceans, sports of all kinds, cities of all kinds, etc., you don't need to to leave your state to enjoy yourself.
When I grew up, the only time I really left Texas for vacation was for the one thing it didn't have...snow skiing. Went to Cancun once and Disney World once. Rest of my vacations were in Texas. Granted...glad I've branched off of that. I see what I've missed. However, I perfectly happy with what I had experienced prior to meeting my wife. She's the one who finally got me to branch out. Glad she did, but no regrets.

Well, I'm talking pretty big for a guy that rarely leaves his apartment anymore, but I always enjoy going somewhere other than home... and then I enjoy coming BACK home. I don't think I'd want to live anywhere else, but I love to visit other places.

So, I just saw your sig, Froz, and it reminded me of a group that I saw had popped up on Facebook.com...
UT -- so ugly it makes little children cry
I was fairly pleased when I saw that group. As for living somewhere else... I could do it a lot easier now than I could have a few years back. I was still too close to too many people to want to leave all of them for an extended period of time... even though I had the PERFECT job to do so... (Tending bar doesn't really change much from state-to-state...)
If I moved somewhere else though, it'd probably be Northern Texas, but NOT Dallas-area... Fuck traffic. I would have said New Orleans about 5 years ago. I also never would have been willing to move (back) to Podunk, OK, and here I am.
...but I'd love to visit Iowa, Minnesota, and Florida again...

Back in the late-80s, I took an insanely hot woman down there for a night, in my dad's 70's van (ceiling to ceiling shag carpet), and yes, I fucked the ever-loving hell out of her.
From what I remember of that trip, however -- outside of my wanting ever more of the young woman I was with -- is that the river and the leaves were pretty nice, despite my limp.
I'd recommend it, especially this time of year. If you haven't gone yet, this time of the year is the time to go.

I liked living in Minnesota, but I so far love living in Utah. There is so much to do and the mexican food is 10x better. The Exes are a lot less organized but I've been helping in that catagory.
BTW if you want a great vacation, I took mine in the Canadian Rockies, Westerns Alberta and eastern BC was beyond beautiful.

That part in Western Canada, near Alberta, that you're talking about...
My dad vacationed there a few years ago and ran into some guy that runs a tourist lodge / B&B type place up that way...
...turns out, they fought in Korea together or something. He's been back every year, just to go drinkin' with the guy. Anyway, my dad MIGHT be the worst photographer in the world, and I'm a picky-ass having BEEN a photographer...
...and the pics he brings back from those trips are still absolutely breathtaking. I really want to visit that area of the world too...
...and Minnesota ain't shit unless you went to St Paul to drink at Billy's on Grand.

I think Alaska would be a pretty freakin' cool place to live, BtH. Just don't know that I'd be able to make it through the winters/darkness.

Canada lloks nice, but at 8 miles per gallon towing my "house" it is a tad bit far. Oklahoma appears more realistic for a week long adventure.

It's not that bad. I mean, sure, it's cold and dark, but once it gets below a certain temp you don't spend a lot of time outside anyhow and you just make sure your home is well-lit.
The tradeoff is that I don't have to deal with the temperature getting above 80-which is the point where I start to feel uncomfortable. Plus, the summer nights are just awesome.
