A War Like No Other
Picked it up a few weeks ago. Damned fine piece of work, although a bit heavy in parts. I'd recommend it for anyone who wanted to read more about the Peloponnesian war without having to wade through their college version of Thucydides.
THE BIBLE - Because all the works of all the science cannot equal the wisdom of cattle-sacrificing primitives who thought every animal species in the world lived within walking distance of Noah's house.

some other ancient historians that are worth checking out are Polybius, Tacitus and Suetonius.....if that kind of stuff floats your boat.
and Robert Graves I, Claudius is a pretty nifty rip of Tacitus and Suetonius....and while a bit dated (I guess) the BBC version is still pretty good stuff.
and at least you didn't have to read Tacitus in greek.
