Elway should've been a Raider?

If this doesnt convince you that Al is one of the biggest dumbfucks in the history of the League, nothing will.

Excellent job sticking it to Pete and moving the team to L.A, Al-that didnt come back to smack you in the mouth or anything. Scoreboard=Rozelle.

But this is a non issue because our QB's throughout that time frame were fucking nailz. No revolving door here.

Petes ultimate scoreboard.

John Elway a Raider?

According to two people with knowledge of a potential pre-draft trade, the Colts had reached a deal to send the No. 1 pick of the 1983 draft to the Raiders -- only to have the deal blocked by NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle. "We almost had Elway, but Pete Rozelle voided the trade," former Raiders personnel man Ron Wolf told The Star-Ledger last week. "We had the trade set up with Baltimore, but Pete wouldn't let it happen."

Rozelle and Raiders owner Davis spent many years in the 1980s in courtrooms over the Raiders' move from Oakland to Los Angeles, among other issues. Simply put, the two didn't like each other. Ernie Accorsi, then the GM of the Colts, now the Giants' GM, confirmed a deal was in place with the Raiders that would have netted Baltimore an unprecedented three No. 1 picks and two No. 2s. One of the No. 1s, Accorsi said, would have been the sixth overall, which the Raiders had arranged to acquire from the Bears.

"Yeah, it's never been written, but I was going to make the deal only if it included getting back a top 10 pick," Accorsi said. "I wanted to make sure we still got (Hall of Fame quarterback) Dan Marino. I wasn't going to trade Elway for anything less than the best package ever." Wolf said he didn't know the details of the almost-trade, but said he was was told by someone in the Colts' organization that "it was much better" than what Baltimore later received from the Broncos for Elway after the draft. That deal included back-up QB Mark Hermann, tackle Chris Hinton and a first-round draft pick.
The deal apparently had been made by Davis and late Colts owner Robert Irsay.
So what happened? "Irsay capitulated with the commissioner," Wolf said.

Even late Bears general manager Jim Finks was baffled. Accorsi said he called him and said, "Are we getting (played) here? Because somebody's killed the deal, and it's not me."
All parties thought a trade was set for the glamour-boy quarterback to land with the Raiders and Davis.
Irsay was worried that Elway would use his minor-league contract with the Yankees as leverage to never play for the Colts. While Accorsi tried to hold firm and call Elway's bluff, teams often went over the GM's head and called Irsay with offers.
So, before the draft, when someone from the Raiders called Accorsi and said, "Mr. Davis wants to know what it would take to get the rights to Elway," the response was, "You don't have the arsenal."
Accorsi wanted the three No. 1s and a No. 2 -- with a top 10 choice. The Raiders had the 26th choice in Round 1, but were prepared to send Chicago several players to also acquire the sixth spot. Accorsi agreed to accept the Raiders' No. 1 pick in 1984, too.

Everything was in place -- except the final go-ahead from Rozelle. That never came.
"Davis had his suspicions that Pete killed it," Accorsi said. "All I knew was I was going to get the best deal ever or I wasn't trading him."
True to his word, Accorsi didn't trade Elway. Irsay did.
Now, let the record show that all that prevented Elway from becoming a Raider was Rozelle.

RACK you and your litigation team, Alcula.

Right on Raydah James, thanks for the memories!!! I was working with a big Raider Fan back in 83 and had to put up with his talk about how the Raiders were going to land John Elway. It was all but a done deal. I’ll never forget the look on his face when he found out Elway was going to be a Bronco.

Is there anybody who hasnt gotten over on the cryptkeeper when going head to head with him?

Fuck, I remember Marcus Allen (among others) coming back to punk him, Tags got over on his neck feeding ass whenever he pleased, Shannahan, Gruden in the S.B, Porter in his Parking Space, and now this?

I remember Rozelle being one of the very few that Al could lay claim to getting over on. (Even though his decrepid ass floated back to Oakland in the end.)

Not.

Any.

Fucking.

More.

Al=PWNED

Brutal. Just Brutal.

Elway? Who needed fucking Elway with these top flight cats manning the QB position from '83 to '98:

Plunkett
Marc Wilson
Jay Schroeder
Rusty Hilger
Steve Buerlein
Vince Evans
Todd Miranovich
Jeff Hostetler
Billy Joe Hobert
David Klingler
Jeff George
Donald Hollas
Wade Wilson

Seriously, fuck Elway.

Plunkett was the only good QB in that bunch-and he was 3 seasons away from retiring (He should've retired in '85)

Hoss was serviceable.

The rest of these useless shitbags are utter horseshit who were as forgetable as they were unwatchable.

But hey, I should look at the bright side: We got Don Mosebar in that '83 draft and watched some scrub named Marino go to Miami with the very next pick.

Excellent job, Al. What a complete and total fuckup as an owner.

Yeah, Al should have been like all the other good li'l owner boys and licked Peter's acorns for him.
All would have been just spiffy.
Fact of the matter is that Al's courtroom win/loss record v. the NFL shows that the league conducted itself like shit.
Doesn't mean anything to y'all .... ?
Oh well...........

So now, 23 yrs later 'they' say .... such and such happened.

Whatfuckingever.

Kick 'em when they're down.

Hey, that list is very uninspiring, no doubt.
But you know what ... ?
Pull up nearly ANY team's list of QBs over a 20 yr period and see what you find.
Go see for yourself.
What you'll see will be just about the same thing.
You'll find that a team will have about 4 or 5 'misses' at QB for every one REAL good QB.
QB = tough ass position.

Go Raiders!

Yeah, that W/L record in the courtroom means a ton to us Raidernation faithful. Really.

"conducted itself like shit"?

How so?

In the end, Al ended up back in Oakland. Doesnt take a Rocket Scientist to see that he made a huge fucking mistake letting his ego (surprise!) get in the way of 'Just winning, Baby'.

Doesn't mean anything to y'all .... ?
No, it doesnt. Enlighten me on these needed courtroom appearances to right the 'travesty' being done against the silver and black back in the day, because im calling bullshit on Al's dumb ass needing to sue everybody from the commissioner to the fucking janitor every goddamn year.

TIA

Yeah, the very parties involved in the trade itself just gave intimate details on what happened. Pardon me if I dont take your 'whatever' stance on it.

and how is Al down exactly? He built this fucking team, and has been responsible for its drafts and dealings for decades now......

Pardon me if I dont shed a tear for Al being 'picked on'. He fucking sucks as an owner and talent evaluator-Period.

Go Raiders!

The very parties involved said .......

Hey, Al was a party involved.
I wonder what he has to say about it .... ?
Maybe the same thing -- maybe something different ... ?
Doesn't matter, 'cuz Al's down and it's time to kick the shit out of him.

Common sense told me a long time ago that if someone waits 'til 23 yrs later to disclose the inner-workings of an event there is a reason for the timing of the *cough* *cough* ... uhh.....disclosure.

About the lawsuits, the league repeatedly acted unlawfully, as proven in court.
Myself, I'm not fond of lawbreakers.

It's all water under the bridge, James.

Game v. Seattle Monday night.

If it's 'Go Raiders' .... then let's hear about it.

Again I ask, how is Al down?

Did he not build this team from top to bottom?

Any remnants of Gru are loooooong gone-he has his guys in there from top to bottom incorporating his game plan. We are 1 win away from a 3 game win streak.

What exactly do you mean by 'down'?

Seems to me that the old man has exactly what he wants, where he wants it right now...........

Common sense told me a long time ago that if someone waits 'til 23 yrs later to disclose the inner-workings of an event there is a reason for the timing of the *cough* *cough* ... uhh.....disclosure.
The article wasnt MEANT to rail Al, pop. It was MEANT to make Rozelle look like a douche.

Mission accomplished. Only problem is, our owner was the bigger douche.

What fucking laws were broken?

Either elaborate or drop it, because i'm sick and fucking tired (Like the other 99% of Raidernation) of hearing about neverending lawsuits year in and year out instead of team progress.

Anyone who doesnt think those lawsuits-dating back to the Elway fuckover-didnt affect the Raider franchise all these years is flat out fucking retarded.
It's all water under the bridge, James.
As of now, yes.

Doesnt change the fact that our owner is a fuckup and needs to sell the team.

Game v. Seattle Monday night.

If it's 'Go Raiders' .... then let's hear about it.
Raiders-31

Hawks-16

Moss and Porter go OFF and get over 100 yards each with a 2 TD's a piece.

James, Al is down because his team is in the middle of it's 4th straight horseshit season, and they are a laughingstock.
That's down.
I know your take is that Al doesn't really care about winning, but I don't share that take.
I think the losing is killing him ..... literally.
Scoreboard you. haha

The article you posted clearly paints Rozelle as a douche, but it's not like we didn't already know that.
He, Tags, and the league in general have always had it in for the Raiders.
This bullshit is 23 freaking years old, man ... !
wtf

YOU came in proclaiming 'scoreboard' for Rozelle, while slapping Al all around.
In bizarro world, yes, but Rozelle and the league were lawbreakers, and 'bode' goes to Al for demonstrating that .... and, btw, making off with an $18,000,000 settlement.
No 'bode for good guy Al Davis there .... ?
I can't agree with you.

Rozelle's lawbreaking league (NFL) got their shit packed by Al in court.
Peter then turns around and fucks Al on the Elways matter (allegedly).
This gives him 'bode .... ?
l guess, ..... in bizarro world.

Peter Rozelle was a piece of shit.
Amazingly, the league somehow managed to find the only BIGGER piece of shit on the planet to replace him.
'Bode NFL.

Davis sued the league (Rozelle) for violating antitrust laws by not approving the Raider move to L.A.
Al won the suit -- hence, the league broke the law.

Hey, Al Davis spent too much time and energy on his court dealings, I would agree.
It ended up hurting the product on the field, and that's a shame.
Al agrees too, btw, as he's said just that on many occassions.

I hope I'm wrong about Oakland, as I was last week, but I see Seattle winning this week.
More sacks, more offensive futility.
Until the Raiders show differently on offense, that's what I predict.
What'd they have on offense last week .... something like 98 total yds ... ?
Brutal.
The defense and special teams will probably bust ass but end up disappointed again.

Seattle - 24
Oakland -16

I obviously dont share the same opinion you do regarding Al and his neverending courtroom drama with the NFL.

To put it bluntly: The moment he decided to move the team back to Oakland was the moment that all of his lawsuits became a incredible waste of time.

All that effort and eventual hatred back and forth, and he leaves the very place he fucked his franchise over for?

On a seperate note-do you really believe the league is better now with teams being able to threaten 'moving' to another locale to squeeze the shit out of taxpayers to get a stadium? Al's fucking lawsuits helped set a precedence that, in the end, was more harmful than anything. Fuck him for that, too.

R.I.P Houston Oilers, Cleveland Browns (Until 99), Baltimore Colts, L.A. Rams, and St. Louis Cardinals.

What kind of bizzaro world do you live in to think that isnt massive 'Bode?

Our franchise got fucked out of one of the greatest QB's in NFL History. Rozelle didnt even spit on the tip before he hammered Alcula on that one.

But hey, Al got $18,000,000.00 and his ego stroked. 'Bode

I don't like teams moving to new cities -- not pleased by it.
In a perfect world all the teams would be city-owned, and it would never be an issue.
But since the teams are individually owned, those owners must be able to operate in a free market system.
The NFL,for some reason, thought they were big, bad, and above that.
They were shown differently.
