I just installed a sound card on my PC.. works fine.. much like my on-board video card, I'd like to disable the onboard sound card so my PC is busy trying to send sounds to that section while I am PC gaming.. Is it possible to disable the onboard sound? If so, how?
Thanks!

Access the BIOS menu.
While your PC is booting up, you'll have to tap F2 or DELETE or whatever the manufacturer uses.
From there, you go into the BIOS settings section, and maybe you can look for ADVANCE SETTINGS or FEATURES or some shit like that. Set ONBOARD SOUND/AUDIO to DISABLED. Sometimes the setting is refered to by the chipset ie:CT4760....

am I not doing the same thing by going into the device manager and disabling it there?

No. You must disable onboard sound in BIOS. It is a motherboard feature.
