Louisville-Rutgers call it!

Louisville gets it done on the road, but doesn't cover.

I think they do cover the 6.5 pt spread.

I think Rutgers is overrated. I'm not taking anything away from what Schiano has done, because it's an amazing turnaround. But they can't pass the ball very well. Probably don't even rank in the Top 100 in passing. Louisville has a piss poor defense, and I think they are slightly overrated because of their D. But, like I said, Rutgers can't throw. Unless Rice/Edwards can get 275 yards combined, I can't see them winning this game. Louisville has too much on offense for Rutgers to handle. They will throw at will and run the ball effectively too. The crowd will be fired up, but they'll leave disappointed.

Unless Louisville comes out flat after an emotional win a week ago, I just don't think Rutgers can win this game.

Problem is, none of us really know much about Rutgers. Louisville has that WVU game as a barometer to judge and form opinions from, but Rutgers hasn't had that game yet up until tonight. I'm keeping the score of this one close, on account of that.

Plus, Thursday night home dogs do kinda well, historically speaking, or so I'VE SEEN TIME AND TIME AND TIME AGAIN.

And I'm not sure it's a matter of Rutgers having the complete inability to pass, as much as they really haven't needed to all that much. Ray Rice is a top collegiate back, and since their schedule has been pretty mediocre-to-patsy laden, there hasn't been a dire need to air it out on anyone.

I think Louisville gives you the BCS chaos factor as well, provided that they remain undefeated and the SEC plays out to form.

Picture this: Louisville finishes 12-0. Florida and Auburn meet in the SEC championship game.

Florida-Auburn winner, with one loss, leapfrogs Louisville as a result of SEC championship win and gets into the BCS championship game, while undefeated Louisville is shut out of the BCS championship game.

Louisville should be hung-over from their big win last week and come out flat.

Rutgers should be amped to no end with their suddenly frenzied home crowd.

Prediction:

Rutgers will take an early lead, Louisville will fight back and lead at some point, Rutgers will kick a field goal for the win.

Rutgers 24, Louisville 22

My prediction is that 100 years from now, the idiot contingency(which is a majority) STILL won't have this figured out.

Don't even tell me the teams...I'll take the thursday night home dog...based upon the fact that the oddsmakers are better at this shit than I am, so I'll take every freebie they care to put in bright lights on a billboard.

I hope a BE team does run the table and get stiffed. Try playing someone next year, whiners. If your conference is shit, it might be a good idea to schedule some deece OOC competition...or at least if you ever want to sniff that championship game.

from the gambling thread. gotta love easy $$$

[quote=adelpiero]big bet on louisville -6. unless they have a letdown, they win this outright and by a td or 2. rutgers qb teal is horrible, you stop rice, as others have, and rutgers is on the ropes(see uconn game yikes).
louisville has the defense for a power running game, not against a spread ya out offense so much, . rutgers defense has been decent, but they wont be able to stop louisville run game and passing game.

gotta love the $$$

teel is fucking horrible

its suprising rutgers is undefeated with him at the helm. shame they dont have an adequate QB to go with their power running game. that kid from south florida would fit this team perfect, run a little, make some plays in the pocket, and not kill his team

Got a ballgame going again, folks.

You guys have been right about Teel, for the most part.

But RU's D should keep them within reach.

And then...there was a game!

Rutgers TD + 2 pointer will make the fans go nuts.

Go Rutgers! I can't wait to see the BCS chaos if they can win it... How much fun will that be?!?

Rutgers won't create much chaos. They can win out, but there's no way they'll have enough time to reach the #2 spot. They have three games left, and currently, they're not even in the top ten of the BCS. Just too much mountain to climb, and not enough time. If an undefeated Auburn couldn't do it with an SEC schedule, there's no way in hell Rutgers can.

As far as Rutgers simply playing in any BCS Bowl game, well, it shouldn't come as a shock to anybody that the winner of the Big East will be playing in a BCS bowl.

If Louisville runs the table and finishes #2 behind the Michigan/Ohio State winner...the major conference honks will freak.
If Rutgers runs the table, they won't rise up in the polls enough and we'll potentially see them and possible Boise State go undefeated and not get to play for squat.

Take out the names of the schools involved and think about how stupid it would be to have a system where at the end of the season, multiple teams can be undefeated with only one of them having an impact on the national title. I go back to it all the time...this unwritten class/caste system in Division IA college football sucks. There's over 100-110 schools that are a part of it but only 40 or 50 of them really matter. Play football at Texas or USC or Ohio State and get to play for national titles and the Heisman Trophy or play football at Boise State or No Name University and get the right to play in the Motor City Bowl or the Heritage Bowl on the smurf turf. Give the little guy a chance...suck rope if you have a problem with even the idea of Louisville or Rutgers playing for the national title. They're all D-1A programs, so treat them all the same. I know that's a stretch to think about but don't include teams in the group only to not allow them to play for the whole ball of wax at the end because of who they are and who they play against. It's not too often any team runs the table in college football...can't leave those teams out in the cold regardless of if they're taking the spot of a BCS conference. If you don't want them to play for your national title, then let them play for the Division IAA or Division II title since they're treated like they're one of those schools anyways.

I'm just tired of Doug Flutie blowing the Big East on Saturdays. I never thought I'd say this.....but, I liked Aaron Taylor more.....(fake eyebrows and all).

Funny he'd say that stuff about the Big East when his school jumped ship to the ACC. The Big East has changed so much...it doesn't really have an identity right now. There's a reason why these games were scheduled for Thursday nights and not for the big time Saturday night games. The Big East is crazy deep in hoops but they lost a lot in football with all of the defections to the ACC.

It's not just that potential, but there will be about 10 one loss teams all vying for the spot left vacant by the loser of OSU/Mich. Plus, I bet some sportswriters and ESPN analysts will start preaching the praises of Rutgers and their National Title hopes. Arkansas (if they beat Tenn this week and win out) will be rabid. Florida? They'll be all over it. Cal, Texas, USC, Auburn, etc, etc, etc. Again...How much fun will that be?!?

And to top that, only about 10% of those teams will be playing meaningful games during the second half of the season.

A lack of playoff really waters down the significance of regular season play because sooooooooo many teams are out of the title race by October, November. This renders, what might normally be really important games, mere battles to see who can get to the "least shitty" consolation bowl.

Too bad. I'd like to be able to point to a weekend in November and see more than one or two important games.

No doubt...at this point in the year, it's either about the unbeatens staying unbeaten or for one loss teams hoping the other one loss teams lose again. Nobody out of the state of Michigan would care but there's a monster game in the MAC tomorrow up in Mount Pleasant...the bad thing is, the reward of winning the MAC isn't as glamorous as what the winner of the Big Ten or the SEC has to look forward to. Could you imagine the type of drama and excitement there would be in these smaller conferences to have their conference titles to mean something like they do in the college hoops?

Hey MACteam, you just won the conference title...what are you going to do?
I'm going to the Motor City Bowl?!?!

I admit, I don't care either but still...that game would sure mean a helluvalot more if winning the game meant getting a step closer to the playoffs.

Look out, Rutgers driving for the win.

And there it begins...

Herbstreit, "As I am watching this game, I am gaining more and more respect for this Rutgers team". blah blah blah "Against the number 3 team in the country" blah blah

What I have learned is: My grandma could run an O against Louisville's D (she's dead btw). Rutgers has a D that could hold any SEC team to 28. The Big East "biggies" would get crushed by any of the other BCS "biggies".

Rutgers is about to win! I love it... Field goal will do it.

I dunno...the difficulty in obtaining it is what makes the championship so special...I'd say possible "more special" than any other sport,or so I'm guessing :sadfacethingy: .

Sure, Oregon isn't making the championship game this year(next year is a lead-pipe lock, though). While not happy, I'm not suicidal over it, either. It's not a matter of avoiding a "crappy bowl game," it's a matter of getting to a good bowl game(heck, I'll watch and enjoy ANY bowl game, always...except when Miami wins...I HATE that), and playing someone else who's good, and hopefully kicking their ass ten ways til sunday. Program gains prestige, no matter how slight, and it helps recruiting, which gets you to a better bowl game, etc. etc.

This ain't no short-term proposition, this CFB thing. It's a lifelong dealio.
