was watching some TV ad tonight and
it had a bit where someone was trying to teach
someone to drive--
reminded me of taking my younger son who had purchased
a "stick shift" car-- up to the school parking lot on a Saturday
afternoon and spending about an hour and a half to learn
using a clutch--gas pedal--etc.
He finally was down with it and then proceeded to take
the car over to Ithaca NY to see his GF
(anyone knows Ithaca--it has hills and stop lights on
sttep grades)
must be he learned very quickly to stop on hill !!
He had basic drivers Ed-- (auto-tranny) as did my
other 3 kids AND MrsO--so I didn't really have to
teach basics to all of them !!
anyone else end up as driver training ?
did you ever have to teach someone to drive ??

I have never taught anyone to drive..simply don't have the patience. But I have watched my hubbie teach many nieces, nephews, and kids of friends to drive. He spends at least an hour in the driveway...go forward, go back, find all the controls, figure out what you are doing with your feet, look in the mirrors, turn your head around, find all corners of the car...he leads them through every single bit of awareness of the car and their actions. Our son is just over a year away from all that, and I'm planning a trip or something while they work it out!
Yes, Wolfman. I have taught my oldest 2 how to drive an automatic first and then a stick shift
Their first cars were stick shifts.
My 3rd son is currently learning how to drive. I haven't taught him a stick shift, yet.
I have white knuckled it a few times hanging onto the panic strap above the door (as if that would help!)
This thread is bringing up some scary memories!!
I remember my son backing up in an empty parking lot and moving too fast. I told him to STOP and it seemed to take FOREVER. When he did, my passenger side door was 2 inches from a cement light post base! I saw it (when I started to yell STOP!!).. He didn't!!
Thank GOD, nothing bad has happened... except the damn gray hair eruption and the extra wrinkles!!
After, I teach them, I have a professional teach them also to bring down the insurance rates!
Insurance, that's another story... I make them pay for it but they can get the cost reduced by doing
extra chores at home.

there's a homo incest reset in there somewhere. Anyone wanna take a crack at it? I haven't had my coffeee yet which makes me almost jtr-like in my ability to form a take.Jack wrote: I haven't taught him a stick shift, yet.
btw, rack wolfie and jack for making men out of their boys, or atleast trying. If you are a male with a driver's license and you can not drive a manual tranny equipped car, you sir, are a fag.
As for me, I have not yet had the displeasure of being a driving instructure, but, with a 15 year old daughter, I will be joining the ranks soon. I guess I'll take the easy route and use the wife's minivan, but, once she get's the hang of that, she will learn to drive my old 5 speed accord.
You see, not knowing how to drive stick, does not make a girl sexually confused, in fact, if anything it's the opposite with chicks, it just makes them somewhat cooler.

I dont know what, but Im teaching mvscal something.
Maybe to not run with scissors, or TO run with scissors. I figure about 300 kicks to the head will make him breathe into a straw to flip his webpage over to some other "right wing nutjob" website.
I guess I'm his life coach and I'm teaching him how to drive his life. It's fucked though, its like jump starting a 1986 Cutlass Ciera. No one wants it and it looks like fucking white trash.

I drove when I was 11.
We owned a hobby farm and my dad had an old International pickup that needed a push start. I got in our old Chevy convertable and pushed him down the country road until he got it started.
On the way back to the farm, I "gunned" the Chevy up to 50 mph and felt like I had just set the land speed record at the Utah salt flats.
