Hey, I don't know if anybody has heard...

...but Ohio State and Michigan are playing this weekend.

I'm pretty sure that the coverage of this game has gone from annoying to rape. Anything after "no" IS rape, right? I know it's #1 against #2, but so is the National Championship game usually, and I don't think that IT gets this much fucking attention. The EPSN/ABC/Hyperbole monster is calling this "the game of the century." WTF? Is every "next" game the "game of the freakin' century" now? (Their exact words were, "this young century has found its game," I think, but still... shit.) I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm going to watch it until it starts becoming a blowout in the 2nd quarter, but I don't think that ANY game, shy of a game where the lead changes with EVERY possession before halftime, one team jumps out to a HUGE lead in the 3rd, and then the losing team comes back the whole 4th in dramatic fashion and wins it in overtime... any game shy of THAT will not live up to this hype.

Anyway, yeah... tOSU and Michigan are playing this weekend, in case none of you have heard. There are freakin' Amish monks living in mountains that know that this game is this weekend. Fuckin' let 'em play it already. They're doing "Russell Crowe helped Michigan win" stories now. The horse is fucking dead. Put the stick down.

Dude, you think you've got it bad? I'm an avid scUM-hater and freaking live in the heart of Wolverine land. I've had to endure this shit tenfold, and for a much longer period of time.

That being said, I still don't remember the hype being anywhere near the level of last year's USC/ND game.

ESPN loves to sell their product, bastards trying to gain profit.

In fairness to ESPN/ABC, they've got a match-up involving arguably the best rivalry in sports with a season-ending, 1 v 2 showdown in the Horseshoe with a trip to the National Championship Game on the line.

Frankly, regular season games don't get any bigger.

That said, even I have found the hype a little annoying.

Glass dick.

Sincerely,
Me, since I posted the exact same thing a couple days ago in consternation over the fact that ESPN seems to be conveniently forgetting last season's Rose Bowl, which was a far bigger and far more hyped up match up than even this admittedly unique but still regular season match up between OSU and Michigan

P.S.-That epic lived up to the hype, which is very rare. Let's see if OSU-Michigan does. My guess is that no, it won't, and that it'll be a relatively boring game controlled by OSU's offense and Michigan's lack of same...

OSU, 28-17

Well, good to see you back. Of course, you're proving my point. Even in the middle of Africa, nowhere near civilization, people have heard about this game. I'll bet there are at least three village children that know about it. Go ask around. :D

Good to see you around again... (Or have you been back for a while and I'm just so dumbass I haven't noticed yet...?)

You know, I don't think an OSU victory is quite the foregone conclusion that people think it is.

Sure, I haven't seen tootoo much of Michigan this season, since I'd sooner have my toenails pulled out with pliers than watch the Doucherines, but from what I've seen, they sure have one hell of a D, particularly against the run(sin, Marcus).

Unless Heisman Smith goes off big, this could get ugly for tOSU.

by Van
Smith always goes off big against Michigan and with this being his final Michigan game I wouldn't expect any less this time either.

Three wins against Michigan, I think he'd be the first OSU QB to do that, and he was instrumental in the first two wins...

Helluva career if he can cap this season off with just two more wins; an unprecedented career, for an OSU QB.

Very good post Skull. However, you do realize that this part of your post almost describes the Texas vs. USC game, right? It's not exact but pretty close. Maybe you did that on purpose, I just didn't think you would reference a Texas win unless you were forced via gun point.

Is that what happened with the USC / Tejas game? I was so drunk by the first kickoff that I didn't catch it. I heard that Tejas won though.

The sickening amount of hype thrown USCs way before the Rose bowl last year will hopefully never be equaled by any team/game ever again. Even USC fans were sick of it

i so bought into the hype that i flew home just for the game. and my sister's wedding.

this is all i have for kids who might know about the game. the little one's counting how many commercials he's seen for the game even though he's never been in the same room as a telly.

he's actually the one i mentioned 88 setting up with some $$$. a little more umich/osu hype for the game, i suppose.

I didn't see that, but if so, RACK the poo out of 88. Nice to see his contributions slapped back in his face in the form of a UM hat.

Dins, 88's a good guy.

I'm just wondering if his "project" is ready for the the Big Game this weekend. I'm hoping so.

Yeah, the hype is getting well past overkill. Can the game just get here already? Huskers on a bye week just adds to my Jonesin' for this game.

My wife couldn't care less about college football...other than hoping Ucla doesn't do anything that would necessitate me throwing objects that break against the wall...which she's had to clean up too often this year....

But -

She's been yakkin up a bit 'bout how Ohio St University is going to do bad things to the University of Michigan this weekend.....

She's from Akron, went to Akron, been in Cali since 1980, and barking about this weekend....

I love college football.

I kinda dig the hype myself...but only for a week. The seven-week championship delay...not so much.

But I hear ya...a week of hype sucks when your team has a bye.

On a really-have-to-stretch-it-to-be-related note, I'm kinda bent about the Civil War. For a hundred-and-whatever years, the game has generally been the same time, on the same week, in one of two places. It's the way it is, as I'm sure it is for the most part with the rivalry game between **insert any two archrivals here**. But being the whores they are, Oregon and Oregon State got a big fat cash offer to make the CW a featured game on friday afternoon.

What...the...fuck?

Not even a night game, but 12:30PST.

Now, I don't have tix. I'd love to get some, but those suckers are spoken for years in advance. But no matter, as I'm sure at least a couple of people here have done, it's still fun to go to the game locale, and either hit up a scalper, try and be the biggest drunken idiot you can possibly be by trying to sneak in, or just hang out at the tailgate with the other 50,000 people or so who didn't have tickets. Heck, there's decent bars a short walk from either Autzen or Parker(excuse me...Reser). But you can always find someone with some elaborate spread, who's willing to drink your beer and shove food down your hole. And if you bring the chron, you're a BMOC, and generally can make friends pretty quickly. You can always go hit up Duckman's party, at minimum.

But midday on a friday? I may or may not make it, but that's going to take some of the luster from it, at any rate.

Not happy about this, at all. Freaking whores.

I tuned in for a little of the Pitt-West Virginia game last night, and the hype I experienced in maybe 1 1/2 quarters was enough to drive me up a wall.

I'll be watching my team spank Army on Saturday. I'll probably tune in to catch the end of tOSU-Michigan after the ND game ends, but by that time, the game should be late into the 3rd quarter. Even I can probably stomach Burnt Cheeseburger for an hour or so.

Hey, I don’t know if anyone’s heard, but Saturday’s the opening day of deer season here in God’s Country. If I don’t get one early, I’ll be watching the game on a Sony 1.5 inch screen. At least it’s color.

Dins, this is becoming more common than any of us want to see. While OSU vs Mich is still on Saturday, it has always been a noon game. This year they moved it back to 3:30. While that isn't as bad as your game, I don't think it will be too long till they move it again in favor of the all mighty dollar.

I agree, the hype is sickening. This truly is a big matchup, though. I wish they'd understand that incessant reminders about the game aren't going to change what was a foregone conclusion...that I'll be tuning in at 3:30 tomorrow.

Then again, I'm probably in the Old Fart category in their demographics, and therefore not worthy of consideration.

I'm considering a whole line of consumer products and stores...Old Fart Mart. There will be simple sticker tags with prices, and simple, operational cash registers. No employee will ask for a zip code, ever. No customer tracking or harassment of any kind will occur. There will be no money spent on anything that doesn't directly aid the function of customer transactions. We will offer generic, functional, cheap products. We will seek to use domestic distributors. We will employ Americans. We will not belabor the process with bullshit. Anyone in?

I have been watching tOSU-Mich game for about 40 years. I thought it was always the 3:30 Big Ten game? Could be Alzheimer's I suppose.

Yep, Alzheimer's:

You guys make Army play with one hand tied behind their backs.
I mean, they should ba allowed to use all their weapons.
I'd watch too if Smemrj...[whatever] and runny nose Weis had a couple of these lined-up against them.
The Horrah! How nice it would be.

Just picture it:

Samarjakdljaflkalvhoiahenafd jukes his man at the line, breaks down the sideline and Quinn hits him in stride. Smarjalkdjfalkdjaidhwa spins out of the safety's tackle and as he approaches the goal line, BAAAAMMMM, a Sherman Tank levels him, the ball comes lose and Army returns it for the game winning touchdown.

Minus the reprecussions that would be a lovely sight.

Fwiw, Army was the 12th game on our schedule this year, which we didn't add until after the NCAA allowed a 12th game. And at least we got a 1-A school, unlike many of the other teams.

Wow.

Well, Bo was a gamer, and he probably thought that the tOSU / Blue game wasn't getting enough attention. Either that or he wanted a better seat. Either way, it's a sad day in CFB.
