If Thomas puts up the numbers he did last year then ok, it's a decent deal although I still think they've overpaid for a 39 year old DH.
Anything less than those numbers and there's going to be a call for JP's head especially since that money could gone towards the Jays needs for a dependable ss that can hit and a 3rd starter to replace Lilly.

Mark Mulder's name is being talked about and with his coming off an injury.. might be able to be picked up on a one year deal relatively cheap.

Barajas is talking to the Jays about their need at catcher. A good defensive catcher if they can sign him to go along with Zaun.

Oh, we'll call it a "lock" then. Because goodness knows, big-hitting SS's and top-flight starters who like paying 90% tax are a dime a dozen.

I just have a snickering hunch that the AL wild card will come from the West next year...just a hunch.

Really, after all these years you'd have thought that notion that players won't come north of the border because of the supposed tax implications would have been proven to be dead.

There's nothing in the west that can compete with the top tier of teams in the east or central..

Now if you'd suggested that it might come out of the central.. I could see that happening.

And therein lies the catch...Toronto isn't in the top tier of the east. Yearly bitchslappings out front should have told you.

For one, the Angels aren't going to stay down. The Mariners are going to get more pitching, and their young up-and-comers are going to be a year better. And the A's will load up the cannon...again. Texas is always the X-factor.
