ACC/Big 10 Challenge thread

The annual ACC beats Big 10 made for ACCPN television event is once again upon us. Here's how I see it playing out this time around.
Michigan at NC State- Giving this one to Michigan on the road despite their coach. Michigan has a lot of talent and I think they can overcome him. B10 up 1-0.
Maryland at Illinois- Early on I had this penciled in as a sure W by the home team but Maryland has impressed early on. I still give the edge to the Illini at home. B10 up 2-0.
Florida St at Wisconsin- FSU is pretty good this year but Wisconsin doesn't lose at home under Bo Ryan often no matter what and this year the Badgers are LOADED. B10 up 3-0.
Penn St at Georgia Tech- PSU is pretty good this year but Tech is too good to lose this at home. B10 up 3-1.
Indiana at Duke- Can't see this IU team at this point in their development under a real coach get the W in Cameron. B10 up 3-2.
Miami at Northwestern- I think NW will be really bad this year. Tied 3-3.
Michigan St at Boston College- Early on I had this penciled in as a sure W by the home team but MSU had been better than I thought at this stage and BC has looked horrible. Going to switch to a shakey MSU victory. B10 up 4-3.
Virginina at Purdue- The Boilers are healthy and much improved and at Mackey I'm giving them the nod. B10 up 5-3.
Iowa at Virginia Tech- Iowa might have all their suspensions over by game time but I still think the Hokies win. B10 up 5-4.
Ohio St at UNC- Would love to see this game when OSU had Oden available because without him I think that UNC dominates the interior. Possible late March rematch might be nice. Tied 5-5.
Clemson at Minnesota- Given tip times this ends up deciding the thing. Don't know much about Clemson, know that Minnesota isn't very good, know the Barn is a bitch to play at as a road team, know the ACC always wins this thing. Hmmm, B10 homerism gives the W to Minny.
B10 wins 6-5
Of course I fully expect the ACC to end up winning it 8-3.

Living in the middle of ACC country (Charlotte) none of this has generated any buzz as of late...I expect this week for the UNC fans to be gripping about losing to Gonzaga and then calling out tOSU fan...
I hope Matta rolls into the DEAN DUMP and has the Buckeyes ready to play...I expect a much tighter game than UNC fan will probably give credit for...
Shine...I think this year the Big 10 can pull it out...
as for tOSU they have to play UNC, Iowa State, Cincy, and FLA without Oden...UGH..

G Tech has some sick freshmen with Thaddeus Young (obviously) and Crittendon really impressed me in the game against Purdue in the Hawaii tournament. i don't see PSU having a chance in that game.
to me the most interesting game is Maryland at Illinois.

PSU is struggling as of yet. They might come together late this season, but right now they're still pretty ragged.

Yeah, that blows...Expect the Buckeyes to still keep it respectable.
Hope Oden's back in time for the start of conference play.

Dems' fightin werds. I try not to get all fired up for losses early in the year and only get overly violent come March and April, you have hit a nerve in trashing Dean's name.
Sig bet?

Every year I say that early non conference losses won't piss me off, but I was ready to break the TV during that Marquette game.
I don't think the Big Eleven has won one of these things yet, so they might as well break out this year. 6-5 sounds about right, with Duke, Tech, UNC, Virginia, and Miami winning.
Shine, can you give me a quick summary of IU before the game? Here's my take on Duke:
This is not Duke's year, but they could make a little noise if they catch favorable matchups. Basically it's the youngest team in forever, with junior DeMarcus Nelson as the only upperclassman on scholarship. Everyone but PG Greg Paulus is learning new roles now that JJ and Shelden are gone. Basically the team is only going as far as Paulus takes them, and he's still not 100% after a foot injury. He's susceptible to being beaten on the drive by quicker guards, even the team as a whole is playing pretty good defense. McRoberts is going to have to learn to be effective inside even though he is very useful from a high post position. The scoring should be evenly distributed between Nelson, McRoberts, freshman SG John Scheyer, and hyperathletic freshmen Fs Gerald Henderson and Lance Thomas. Freshman C Brian Zoubek will also get a shot, and I'll be happy if he can be a reliable rebounder and garbage guy. This team shouldn't be as reliant on the 3 as in years before. Instead, they'll rely on quickness and passing to get inside looks. Until offensive roles become better defined, defense will have to help get things started. There will be nights when nothing goes right and nights when they look unbeatable. The schedule is interesting, but only four non-conference games are away from Cameron. I don't see how they could top UNC in the ACC this year, but the talent is in place for something like 11-5 in conference, 26-9 overall and maybe another trip to the Sweet Sixteen.

Michigan's currently doing their part by turning the Big Ten into the ACC's bitch for yet another year.
Down by 15 with 10 mins to go.
Way to show up Blue!

Deece "comeback," but it's representative of Michigan's program the last few years: too little, too late.

i'm sure bill frieder needs a job somewhere. shit, an inbred circus clown could win more games with that squad than amaker.
scU-M really needs a huge "ty shine" like throwdown to galvanize the guys.

Their PG's are ultra quick but have been extremely TO prone early on. Calloway is the SR but Sampson benched him for their last game due to poor play in favor of true frosh Armon Bassett. One day Bassett will be a player but that day isn't today, so IU will need Calloway to step up tonight. He has the quickness to hurt Paulus. The wing spot is solid but not spectacular with Wilmont and Ratliff getting most of the minutes. A real X factor is redshirt frosh Joey Shaw, a 6'6 lanky kid with good hops and decent athleticism. Up front the key is of course DJ White who is slowly rounding into form after the year off. He's been foul prone which could be a huge factor tonight. 6'8 JUCO Lance Stemler has been the biggest positive for IU this year with his high hoops IQ and outstanding outside shot. I think he can handle McRoberts fairly well when McRoberts plays to his strength which is the face up game. If they send McRoberts down low then I'd expect DJ to take over. Ben Allen is having a rough transition from perimeter player under Davis to interior player under Sampson. We'll need a big game from him tonight on defense against Zoubek, he's our tallest player by far and the only guy I think that can cause trouble for Zoubek. The rest of the frontcourt is made up of bulky but undersized Mike White and Xavier Keeling. They give up a lot in height but are aggressive to the ball.
There's enough there for the game to be competitive but I just don't see this being a team that can go into Cameron this early in the year and walk away with a W.

Drew Neitzel is a joke. Any run this guy gets is too much. I've never been a fan. Junior year, and Izzo still hasn't beaten the pussy out of him.

I was impressed with tOSU last night. I didn't think we would win and I didn't think we deserved to be ranked #1 (I know it is easy to say that after losing). I had hoped we might somehow be able to pull it off I was still very happy with our showing. I don't like to say "well when Oden get back" because I feel like that is coping out but I am very excited about this team.
Going into the Dean dome with a #1 ranking is probably one of the toughest games we will play this season. I think our returning players played well and I see constant improvment from our freshman.

During the game, there was mention that Oden may be back in time for the Florida game... has anyone else heard anything about that?

I was half hoping Oden would suit up and come out at half time. I really think Oden could come back at any time but they worry about him getting upended and falling on that wrist. With that, I don't think an early return is good for anyone. If we get him back for two, three or even four weeks and then he hurts himself again, we would lose out on having him during the tournament. Additionally, I think the longer he sits the more our chances of keeping him for another year or two increase.
Of course, we need him against FL so the sooner the better.

Very entertaining game for this time of year. I try not to treat games this early the same way I would later in the year, but I was into it las night. I too can't wait to see this Oden kid, but every time they mentioned his name the camera guy kept showing some 28 year old  I wouldn't mind seeing that match up again on a Monday in April.
On to the sig:
After seeing a great game in Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel, I have no doubt that even with Oden Suited Up, the Heels will be the Undisputed National Champions
