No more 5 star recruits for you!

Really not sure how I feel about this loss yet. :?

Too many better openings out there for a guy of his reputation to take the Iowa St gig. 'Bama, Miami, UCLA (probably)...

Iowa St? Just makes no sense. Guess he really loves a challenge.

I'm very happy with this hire.

UCLA doesn't have the money to replace Dorrell at the moment.

Good luck to Coach Chizik. He is a good guy and a good defensive coach. It wil be interesting to see how he does with less than stellar talent. He has enjoyed the spoils of coaching at Auburn and Texas. There has been some serious talent on the defensive side of the ball at both schools. It is alot easier to look good with 4 and 5 star recruits than it is with 2 and 3 stars. This is not a jab at ISU, just reality.

I think ISU will contend for the North in 2 years. Let's see if Gene can get a good offensive coordinator and some talent.

I wish him the best.

How do you think Jon is taking this?

Exactly. How would Lane do at Wichita State? I doubt he would be playing in his 4th Straight championship game.

He'll need to hire a defensive coordinator as well. Inspite of his credentials, a head coach has to relinquish his coordinating past to a large extent. Is there a position coach that would follow him as a puppet so to speak, to be coordinator?
How will the offense respond to a HC that's focused on defense if he takes the reigns?
Too much to do...so little time.
Things that everyone battles, but Jamie Pollard hit a homerun, at least on paper.
He'll recruit Texas and do well with a talent pool not all the big timers can get.
I think Okie St. and Nebraska will hurt the timing however. Missouri has done well in Texas and of course A&M and OU have locks along with the Chosen One.
For minor's sake, and to the chagrin of one JON, I hope he kicks the Hawks' ass EVERY year!

i think isu hired the wrong guy.

reminds me of when stinkel was hired, pinkel was the hot guy, but there were other coaches who would of fit in nice, instead, they went with the next budding star(roll), and are stuck with stinkel.

guy from CMU was the best hire.

Right. Because if a guy can lead shitty teams like Auburn to an undefeated season and then lead Texas to an undefeated season and a National Championship he probably sucks. God know Pinkell did that every year. :meds:

It is one thing to win at CMU, it is another to win and win big in the SEC and the Big XII. Chizik was a temp coach until the right gig came along. I sure this has nothing to do with the fact that you will have to face ISU every year in the North. Smell Cyclone ass crack much? Don't worry, you will

we'll see dickjaw.

when he flops, i'm sure you'll be kind enough to remember this thread.

being a head coach and being a defensive coord at football factories are 2 different things.

those programs sold 5 star kids to them, ISU isnt selling anything for anyone.

Maybe he just wants to remain employed for more than 3 years in a row. We saw what Coker was able to accomplish at Miami, and he still got the axe. Christ, after that firing, who the fuck would want to inherit that kind of pressure? Dude wins a title in his first year, gets to another MNC game, racks up 60 wins in a short time span and still gets shown the door? Chizik can rest comfortably in a pretty cupcake-esque Big 12 North, competing for Big 12 titles, which means he'll be competing for BCS bowl bids. Plus he'll have the "luxury" of being able to lose 3 or 4 games a year, and still keep his job, unlike say at a Miami, or Alabama.

Why so angry?

What if he doesn't flop?

I can't wait to hear JONs spin on how this was a bad hire.

like i said, the guy from CMU is a winner. 1AA, and winning games as a head coach at CMU.

being a defensive coord for schools with bluechip talent doesnt always equate to being a good head coach.

im actually happy for this hire, if ISU hired kelly, it would be another team PInkel would be outcoached by on a yearly basis.

I'm almost don't even give a rats ass he is gone. Sure he was nails at Auburn, but last year the Texas D looked good until it met one truly fine opponent in USC. USC gutted them time and time again. If not for the 4th and 1 stop and some VY heroics you could not tell that much difference in that game and prior Carl Reese defenses. Come this year and the defense was pathetic. Torched by land, air, and even sea all the while he was shopping for a HC gig. I know Texas was just a stop in his quest to become the head man, but his time here was not as impressive as his rep leads one to be. The defense was already an improvement under Robinson and Tomey with Duane Akina being a constant figure on the defesive leadership team. Seems Chizick gravy trained his way to a MNC because his defense wasn't worth a shit all year. I hope he becomes the new Baylor of the conference becasue while all the fans want the OC's head, his team is getting piled on on the field.
