I have to pick a defense for this Sunday:

Chicago at home vs Minnesota

OR

New England at home vs Detroit

Scoring system?

Flip a coin.

Both are solid starts at home against weak assed competition. Detroit probably sucks worse though, so being a Pats fan, you'll probably lean that way.

So just keep flipping the coin until you get the result you want.

I am leaning toward Chicago actually BUT I was hoping for some feedback. Scoring system? Standard Yahoo league.

The Lions are a train wreck...the Pats are the better play. Kitna is a turnover machine and the Lions are awful on the road.

Bears-- their defense has been playing with the mindset that they almost have to score a TD for this team to win. And with Minnesota having the number one D against the rush, I don't see the Bears offense scoring many points which means the defense will be even more inclined to produce some points.

Pats secondary has given up some big plays, and you know Martz will throw the ball.

The Vikings can't move the ball on anyone.

Bigger chance for turnovers with the Pats, but bigger chance for a shutout with the Bears

When in doubt, play your studs.

Well I'll be damned...the Lions actually look like a football team today. Either that or the Patriots are sleepwalking through this game...probably a little of both. Well, I guess the Lions play one game well each month so this must be their A-effort for the month of December. The Lions will find a way to not win this game though...it's a given.

After 3 quarters...Lions 18, Patriots 13 and the Lions are deep Pats' territory to start the fourth?!?!

Watching a performance like this by the Lions makes me hate them more. Why don't they prepare and play like this in every game?

Let's compare...

Bears: 13 points allowed, 4 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, 3 sacks, 1 INT return for TD, 1 punt return for TD (if special teams is included in the stats)
Patriots: 21 points allowed (2 were via safety though), 3 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, 5 sacks

Looks like the Bears were the correct play...didn't expect Kitna to put 300 yards on the Pats. Roy didn't do much but Furrey had a strong game and even McCown had two grabs on the day.

Grossman goes 6-of-19 for 34 yards and 3 picks...the fact that the defense won could be the only reason he's still got the starting job right now. This further cements Urlacher's case for defensive MVP/player of the year.

Trap game anyone? Patriots were fortunate to get away with that one. That type of slop won't get you far this time of year - AT ALL. Thank god I stuck with my gut and played the re Bear's D today - 34 pts.
