Ohio State is Terrible....

Or at least they must be...
Oregon State should beat them but at least a touchdown and Auburn should beat them by 2 touchdowns.
That must be the case, or why would Michigan essentially fall a spot each of the last two weeks?
This system sucks.
How great would it be to have Michigan and Florida to actually settle this on the field?
oh...
That would be a playoff.
Posted: Sun Dec 03, 2006 7:12 pm
by Dinsdale
You mean a "playoff"...like where Michigan would have to win its crucial games to advance to the final?
A "playoff" like that? Or did you mean some sort of double-elimination playoff?
That argument makes no fucking sense whatsoever.
UM had a chance to win their second-to-last game and advance to the final game for all the marbles. They lost.
Would it make the whiners feel better if they would have called the OSU/UM game the "Playoff Bowl?" Would that make your little owie feel better?
In "playoffs," they call that second-to-last game that launches you into the final a "semifinal." In "playoffs," when you lose a "semifinal," you go home. That's how every "playoff" I'm familiar with works. They actually don't grant teams a do-over just because they whined a lot.
"But we know if you gave us enough chances at it, we could beat OSU sooner or later!"

Give it a fucking break, Michigan fan. Really.
If Michigan plays tOSU in the MNC and wins, will you with a straight face claim the championship, or admit that you really can't without a third game?

Michfan is really exposing himself as a myopic, classless douche over the deal.
Herre's a new cheer for your cheerleaders, UM -
Gimme a "L" !
Gimme a "O" !
Gimme a "S" !
Gimme a "T" !
What's that spell?!??
Wait...we're Michigan...we obviously can't spell for a shit.

Why is wanting what is yours classless?
The system is supposed to pair 1 vs 2....
As a Michigan fan I am completly convinced that we are the number 2 team in the country.
You can take your shots at Michigan fan, but you are only fooling yourself. If this happened the other way around you'd be bitching too. And your arguments would be just as silly and lacking in intellectual honesty like the one you are making now.

Uhm...hello?
Don't know if you've been able to deduce my rooting interests from the over-the-top homerism I squirt from every pore, but I'm a fan of the
original got-fucked-by-the-BCS-team.
Link to where I've bitched? There might have been a couplefew hours of it, and then I moved on.
Actually, my response to the whole deal was "Oregon's fate was in its own hands...shouldn't have lost that game."
You wanna BE the best? You gotta BEAT the best. Michigan had that chance, and didn't take it. EOS.
Not sure how a playoff changes that...wait, it doesn't. Matter of fact, by definition, a playoff dictates that the loser takes a hike. Time to take your hike, and appreciate the fact you get one more paycheck.
Why on earth is UMfan dwelling on an OSU loss that's somehow meaningless because of which week it was played in? Makes no sense.

The deal used to be that you don't lose your spot on a bye week. Florida wasn't better than UM after UM's season ended, nothing has changed.
Go Buckeyes, kill the Gators.

That is true...if the pollsters wanted to be sure Michigan shouldn't play in the Glendale game...they would've voted them 4th after the Ohio State game and not slide them back whenever a new team should replace them for #2. That part of the process is pretty shady.
Posted: Sun Dec 03, 2006 10:15 pm

Does this mean that if SC would have won UM would have slipped to 4th?
Fucking lame. We were third, #2 lost, we should go to #2. I'm with Shoalzie, if they wanted to drop us to #4 after our loss, I could have lived with that. But nobody was talking about Florida last week, now after the Trojans shit down their leg the Gators suddenly make sense? Fuck that.

I didn't say it was a rule fuckstick. I just said that's been the way it's been. I find it lame that UM stays #2 after a loss, yet gets jumped the next two weeks while not playing. Bullshit if you ask me.
Bring on the Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, or whatever.

To put it correctly there really is no system. The only time it allegedly "worked" in the last 5 years was last year. The only time it truely "works" is when there are exactly 2 undefeated or 1-loss teams from BCS conferences. If there is only 1 undefeated and several 1-loss team it's chaos. There is no system, if things play out correctly undefeateds would play each other anyway. So all the BCS did was supercede the old bowl affiliations, big fucking deal.
This season a plus-1 scenario would work, but in seasons like last year it wouldn't be necessary. A four or eight team playoff would be best.

Take Ohio State out of the equation...
pretend that USC was undefeated, and Michigan's only loss was to a top 10 Ohio State....
Then what?
Michigan isn't the second best team in the country because Ohio State is the first?
That is absurd.

Uhhh, yeah, that's kinda how it works. They didn't
want to see a rematch because Michigan already proved they weren't better than OSU, so they voted for a different team to get a chance. Having Michigan and OSU play for a second time will solve nothing, at best they'll split, and the "manipulative pollsters" were smart enough to realize that.

We lost to OSU
UF lost to Auburn
OSU>Auburn.
UM should be in the NC. I've not been in favor of a rematch. But since UM is clearly the second best team, although the media tried to fix it in favor of SC, they should get a chance. A rematch is not un-precedented. Gator out front should have told you.

Mace wrote:The idea is to match up the two best teams in the country, if possible, and they had a chance to do just that.
But there's nothing in concrete that says Michigan is the second best team. That's just what YOU think. This isn't some universal fact. Your continued argument of "Well, I just think Michigan is the second best team," just isn't a convincing enough argument. At the end of the day you have to look at their season-long results, and compare them to UF's, and it's quite clear UF has the much more impressive resume.
Yet you want it all to be decided on what's basically nothing more significant than a gut feeling. You offer up very little else in the way of an argument, other than how Michigan's one loss is a pretty one.
Again, just ain't good enough.
Michigan might be the better team on the field, but since we cannot know that for absolute fact, we have to go by on-the-field results. And the results indicate UF has played and beaten tougher teams, as well as won its conference outright. Gotta go with UF.

I agree. Michigan got fucked over. UF beats a shitty FSU team by 7 and a 2 loss Arkansas and that makes them better than Michigan?

Mace wrote:If the pollsters voted their conscience and weren't simply trying to avoid the rematch, then you're right. However, you said that the manipulation of the pollsters to get their matchup was what they're supposed to be doing. Not so. They're supposed to vote for the top teams, 1-25, and let the chips fall where they may. I think it's obvious that that's not the case.
Mace
Well, when I say voting for who you "want," the basis of the "want," is predicated on who you think is more deserving. I don't feel the pollsters believed Michigan was deserving, based on its rather unimpressive resume, so obviously, they WANTED to avoid the rematch, in order to see a team they felt was more deserving.

If what I do constitutes a "pathetic existance," then what does crying about bowl games you didn't qualify for and trumping your team's achievements based upon a LOST GAME qualify as?
"WHA! WHA! WHA! We got cheated...WHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!"
Newsflash, you fucking crybabies -- LOTS of teams get "cheated." (Yours didn't-btw...they just FUCKING LOST THEIR MOST IMPORTANT GAME...sinking in yet?)
I don't see the fans of those teams going into full-meltdown-infantile-mode. I see Michigan fan going into full meltdown infantile mode.
Just because YOU don't see the high comedy in this, don't think for one second that this means this comedy doesn't exist...ohhhhh, how it does. And Michfan's(who was already one of the lower forms of sports scum BEFORE this) inability to even catch a clue as to why they're being laughed at across the nation makes it all the more funny.
PLEASE continue.
And whatever you do, DO NOT blame your "crisis" on the fact you lost the one game you needed to win to get to the championship game. Don't do it -- you'll be cheating the rest of us out of a full month's worth of laughter.

Dins,
All you do is call people names and type in capital letters. You are the discussion board equivelent of a third grader.
If you want to present a valid argument do so in a way that is somewhat articulate and interesting. Or if you want to act like a bafoon you'll be treated like one.

Ah, but I pride myself in knowing what them "big words" mean, and how to spell them correctly when
I "call people names." Because that's what "articulate and interesting" people do.
Fucking DYING* over here. Pretty sure I had the word "buffoon" down by third grade(that WAS what you were going for, wasn't it?).
* -- just for YOU, DeafDumbandBlinfRef
Oh, and for the record, when Vannie wanted point-spread type breakdown, whose name was it he was calling out?
Now, was this because he drew a random name from a hat, or was it maybe
because I've discussed these things at length in this forum?
So, we'll add "liar" to "crybaby" and "reads/writes below a third-grade level...by his own admission" to your already stellar resume. I'm sure the University of Michigan is proud...

Oh man, spelling smack.
I concede. Dinsdale is brilliant because I spelled buffoon wrong.
I never made any references your ability to write, more of your ability to articulate. However, you also seem to lack the ability to think crictically as you just regirgitate SEC homer sports talk radio and call it a take.
Do Michigan fans whine when they are unhappy about something? Of course they do, just as much as SEC fans whines about Auburn (rightfully so), as Oregon fans whined about Nebraska, and OU fans continue to whine about Oregon. All these are legitimate gripes and dismissing them because they present a contentious voice against the status quo makes you not only ignorant but uninteresting to read or take seriously.
Please continue with your "HA HA HA HA's," ridiculous levels of hyperbole and assanine takes that have been made over and over again by people much more effective than you.

Michigan's body of work at season's end was considered superior to Florida's body of work with games remaining. Not surprising, is it? But something has changed. Florida's season has now concluded. The comparison is now between two teams with full seasons under their respective belts, and Michigan's falls just a tad short. Save your footstomping for after OSU hammers the Gators (assuming you knock off Southern Cal - a very large assumption).

Florida was 19th, UM was 13th.

Plenty changed. Florida added two more wins to their resume. They added a win against their main rival, FSU, and then they added an SEC championship to their resume by beating highly ranked Arkansas.
Michigan Fan keeps wanting to compare their body of work to teams who still had lots of season still to go and it just doesn't work that way. We don't do a final regular season ranking until everybody's played all their games and it's the final regular season BCS ranking that determines the championship game pairing.
Funny shit. Michigan Fan must apparently think that the tourney ends when Vijay completes his round to become the current clubhouse leader, even though Phil and Tiger are only one stroke back with three holes to go...

Problem is, Tiger's still on the course and Michigan's already completed their round.
Point being, best team or not everybody else still has to complete their round before a winner is decided. Point being, Michigan wanted the winner declared before everybody else had a chance to complete their round.
Point being, you wanted to declare Michigan the best team even before all the evidence was in.

Can't see how Sagarin now has Michigan's schedule ranked higher than Florida's...
His system must not be the only one used to rank S.O.S. by the BCS because USC and Florida had the highest ranked schedules in the last poll and certainly Florida couldn't have hurt their S.O.S. by beating Arkansas.
19th? How'd that suddenly happen?

We already know that OSU is better than Michigan. We don't yet know whether OSU is better than Florida (although I suspect we shall rather convincingly). The real humor will come when Michigan swallows its dick in the Rose Bowl; and thus, the "Champions of the West" keep completely fucking silent when the Buckeyes drop a load on Florida's outstretched tongue. Then we'll load up for more BCS high drama next year.
