SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Texas, which lost its chance to defend its national championship with consecutive losses to Kansas State and Texas A&M, will play in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30, a team spokesman said Sunday.
The Longhorns (9-3) will play Iowa (6-6), which finished in ninth place in the Big Ten. Iowa has lost three straight games and five of its last six.

Gotta say it...
What on earth is Iowa even doing playing in a bowl game at all, much less against the likes of a 9-3 Big XII team with a pedigree? What is the Alamo Bowl even thinking there, tabbing those dogs to play a Texas team in Texas' own back yard?
70-3 ring any bells? Colorado? Hello?

Iowa had to play in a bowl game. Under NCAA rules, you're bowl-eligible with six wins, and with both Ohio State and Michigan going to the BCS, the Big Ten did not even have enough remaining bowl-eligible teams to fill all of their tie-ins. That's why Middle Tennessee, of all teams, is playing in the Motor City Bowl.
Having said that, the Alamo had a choice between Iowa and Minnesota. From a competitive matchup standpoint, the Alamo screwed the pooch with that choice, although I have a hunch that Iowa may travel better than Minnesota.

I believe many NFL scouts pressed the Alamo into choosing Iowa because they wanted one more game to hash out the first from the second rounders on the team. Ducks in a row and all.

That shouldn't be too hard. All the 1st rounders will be on the bench nursing early season injuries.

We're playing Texas because we have a fan base that would travel to Algiers, Louisiana if the Hawks were playing. As soon as the invite to San Antonio was announced, I grabbed some duckets. We punked Michigan out of the Outback Bowl last year when we had the same record and they beat us. This year we punked the Gophers.

So this is okay, but it's not okay for other teams? Rodger that.

I didn't say it's right that this happened. I just stated the reasons we're in the game. If you ask me, no team should ever go to any bowl at 6-6. But last I checked, I didn't make the rules.

Yes, no Buckeye fan would ever want me to make the rules. Because I'd actually come down hard on Tressel when he forks over cash and cars to his recruits. USC wouldn't want me to have anything to do with the NCAA eiither.

Does Texas fan have a view on Mack Brown going pussy here?
He declined an invitation to play Cal a 9-3 team... in the Holiday Bowl, so he could play a 9th placed team in Iowa, and play them an hour away in San Antonio?
Do you feel the least bit embarrassed, by the cowardice of your coach?

Ummm, the
Holiday Bowl...
... Texas turned down the invitation and the Holiday Bowl then invited the team with the 2nd best overall record in the Big 12.
Which I'm cool with, since they(Texas A&M ) dominated Texas in Austin, and have 3 loses by a combined total of 6 points.
I'd rather we play the better team.

Wow, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried.
From the beginning, the Holiday bowl wanted the aggsy, their line of thinking was the aggsy have been the suck for the entire century and would travel well to a 2nd rate bowl game. Over the last 6 years Texas has played in 3 holiday bowls, do you really think we were up to going to another one especially after blowing the conference and a BCS bid?
As far as them dominating Texas, did you not see the score, a 12 to 7 win does not equal dominate.

Vito's right. UT had no choice in the matter. Gator passed on the Big XII....the Holiday chose ATM. and the Cotton chose Nebraska. UT slotted in the Alamo.

I don't think you understand, Vito. Kal literally changed history by winning the MNC in the Holiday Bowl last week. Since that victory, Texas A&M
dominated Texas in November and Tennessee
just barely buttfucked Kal in the mouth in September. And yeah, pretty much A&M is the #2 team in the country right now.
