As much as I hate to defend millionaires (and billionaires) whining that they aren't making enough money, they aren't the true villains here. The RIAA is lobbying to have artist royalties lowered, which is such bullshit because they kept crowing about how downloading was hurting the talent who created the music. I'm not sure what a fair copyright period would be, but I think it's more important that we help push a new model in which we give our money directly to the artists, especially those that haven't already made a fortune.
