"Rabbi Elazar Bogomilsky, who made his request weeks ago, said he was appalled by the decision. He had hired a lawyer and threatened to sue if the Port of Seattle didn't add the menorah next to the trees, which had been festooned with red ribbons and bows."

Well here we go again. It is so utterly predictable. Like clockwork. It’s December and time for another skirmish in the annual battle against Christmas. What compels me to comment is that this time it's not the usual secular fanatic who's responsible for doing things that evict Christianity from the culture. No, on this sad and alarming occasion it's a deeply religious, well-intentioned rabbi who has unwittingly stumbled into a situation that will place his denomination (and mine) —Orthodox Judaism— in a terrible, negative light....

and it goes on for a while, from there, there are several articles like this at FreeRepublic. I don't know where you're getting that Jews revile Christ as a homo satanic pedophile. I think Mvscal is kidding when he goes off on his homoChrist rants. I think. Perhaps the Jewish posters here can explain how Jews feel about Christ. My understanding was that he is considered a great teacher, he just isn't the Messiah.... unless you're a Messianic Jew.

What's interesting is that this Rabbi -- who no more represents all Jews, than the Jew who made demands in the first place -- states that it's usually 'secular fanatics'. That's a powerful turn of phrase 'secular fanatics'.... it's like calling someone a 'fundamentalist atheist'; and yet isn't it possible to be either? and just as uncontrollably irrational in being either.

As for the guy who made the requests, I thought he just wanted a Menorah. So he should have been given a Menorah. Keep the Christmas tree. Add some holiday stuff in celebration of Kwanzaa, Ramadan, the Winter Solstice and a wink and a nod to the agnostes and atheists as well. Everybody else can make a request at the front desk for inclusion next year. Was it an exclusion issue, a money issue, or an ignorance issue?

Your first response was an intentional side step. We can both have opinions about Goebbels or Mengeles without ever having met either of them, right? But then you say 'as a Jew', and what follows is weird. How is he the greatest sham ever in the history of mankind? Jesus didn't ask those who follow (or claim to follow) his teachings to pull some of the crazy and inhuman things they did against fellow human beings. Jesus was just trying to live by the law and by God; Jesus was trying to contemporize God, so that people were living the meat of God's word, and not getting stuck in ritual and segregating. Jesus was about context over form. Why would it matter if someone managed to follow every rule in Leviticus, but was godless in their soul and spirit? Jesus (from what I understand) wanted a return, and that's why he reached out to people who were specifically ostracized in Jewish society in order to say 'hey look, you're no better and no worse than any other human being, We Are All Chosen People, we are all called to God, there is no permanent separation unless we choose to permanently separate ourselves from god'. or something like that.

You love your kids/family, and you don't want to disappoint them. There's a line that's crossed every year, though, in that regard.

Do you understand that Jews don't believe that Jesus was the Messiah? What he did or did not say, did or did not do is of no bearing. From our point of view, Jesus was a sham, Christianity (and all it's spinoffs) is a sham as it is based on a false Messiah.

I don't have to buy my kids love. A real parent is involved with the kids lives and tell them everyday that they are loved and supported. Besides, my parents do spoiling routine with my inheritence.

I could see a grouchy rabbi complain about a Nativity Scene, but..a tree? The Christmas tree is clearly a European pagan vestige that like many other aspects of the Christer Cult has been welded into the overall package of Redemption, et al.
