Even though everyone could see this coming, it's still a sad day for Chiefs fans. A classier man than Lamar Hunt you'd not find. It's just a shame that he was never handed the trophy that bears his name.

Why they couldn't have hooked him up with a laptop and simply downloaded the game over the internet is unfathomable. Lamar was a humble man and probably thought it would be too much trouble and not worth the fuss.

Probably his greatest flaw.

He let Jack Steadman turn the franchise to an also ran from the 70s through 1988. And now Carl Peterson is in year 18 of his 5 year plan.

Let's remember that Lamar was first and foremost a businessman. A Buisnessman that inherited his family's oil fortune. His vision in starting a rival league was bold - and profitable. His move of the Texans to KC was a business necessity - given their inability to compete with the Cowboys in the Dallas market. I'm sure he did many philanthropic things, though none come to mind. The bottom line, though, was his never ending concern for the bottom line. This was proven out during the last general election when the taxpayers of Jackson County voted to "subsidize" 400 million plus in stadium improvements for a stadium that has generated more profit for the Hunt family than can be easily calculated.

But I digress....... Perhaps Clarke will right the ship, and make the necessary front office moves to again make the Chiefs competitive. Perhaps a refurb of the stadium will lead to some economic development around that blighted area. Perhaps taxpayers will see a return on their investment.

Yea, he started the AFL when the NFL wouldn't sell him a franchise. And that's great, But that's it. Lamar was born into enormous wealth. In 1982 his father and uncle tried to illegally corner the market on Silver - After Dad got popped and had a $58 Million judgement levied against him, he filed for bankruptcy. Of course he had transfered a good chunk of his wealth to Lamar before that judgement came down. Nothing wrong with that, I guess.

Go Google Lamar Hunt and Philanthropy - I did and the only thing I could find was he donated money to SMU for their football Field. I dunno dave, seems like he made a lot, but didn't much back. Hard for me to want to build a statue for that.

As far as the rest goes ..... Im no expert on Lamar. No one that posts here is. I met him 9 or 10 times. Worlds of Fun, Chiefs games, and at the Chiefs office downtown. He was always cordial. A decent, soft spoken man. He never acted like he was better than me, or anyone else that was around. He was just a guy.

Good job, Scott. It's good to see a Chief fan not blinded by stupidity. But, it is Missouri and Kansas we're talking about. Just like the "Wizard of Oz", the Chiefs make up the self-esteem and identity of many Midwestern folk, that have nothing else to root for in life.

Plain and simple... Hunt's refusal to do anything about "King Carl"... has cost the Chiefs and their fans, some very reasonable dreams.
