Nice hire, douch pumps. It must make their dozens of fans sleep well knowing that the one criteria the AD used when looking to hire a new coach was "Who will come cheap?".
Go fist yourself, you classless fuckahs

BC's strong suit under O'Brien has been their O-line and the ability to develop them. That's been their key to success. My guess is that the hiring of Jagodalphabet has something to do with his history as o-line coaching. I don't know the first fucking thing about him, and as a matter of fact, never even heard of him. I only know his history of coaching some o-lines from espn.
It also doesn't hurt that he spent some time w/BC, I'm sure. I HATE that line of thinking, btw.

I think the biggest thing was that the person who was considerd the leader in the clubhouse (Mark Whipple) had previously put together staffs at Brown and U-Mass (where he won th 1-AA NC) and had an idea who he wanted at BC. Gene DeFlippo is a small, petty man and he wanted someone he could keep under his thumb and who would allow him to have a say in choosing the coaching staff. Enter Jagoff.

I was ROFLMMFAO at the news that O'Brien had left Fredo for the N.C. State job. Not that Fredo would ever be confused with "destination job" for anyone not named Doug Flutie, but even still, coaches seldom leave a stepping stone job for another job in the same conference, at least not directly. And in this case, it's not as though he left for the FSU or Miami job; he left for a job that, at least in Fredo fan's mind, should be beneath the one he had in the college football foodchain.
On the bright side for Fredo fan, they now have another school to replace us on the hate meter once we end that series.
Btw, what happened to Amato and his man-boobs and Mike Tyson voice?

Yeah, when I saw that name come across the screen on ESPN, I to myself "who the fuck is that?" Talk about a program with potential, but not by hiring whatever his name is. Too bad they don't have a fan base or maybe they'd be a big-time program. Boston just is not a college sports town and really the entire northeast isn't. Fine by me. Sports fans out there = annoying. I find myself each day debating whose fans I hate more......Yankees or Red Sox!

... and just how do you come to that conclusion?
As far as I'm concerned, we saw BC's maximum potential the past few years under O'Brien... a team built on strong line play and smart qb's w/moxie.

I'm talking more about the recruiting base in the area. The NY/NJ/Boston area has a lot of good recruits. It just needs a coach that can actually attract those players. It has potential but I think it will never get any better than it currently is simply because they're not committed to getting better. Why else would their coach leave for a shit program IN THE SAME conference??

You're saying the program has the potential to become... well, the same program it is now. Now that we got that straightened out.

Well, I think they could do better. I don't think their program was that good. It's okay. But I think with the right AD and football coach, they could improve. They need an AD with a staff that can market college football, and more importantly BC football to people in the area. I know it's a pro-sports area, but with a good marketing staff/campaign, you could build yourself a better fan base. That's where it all starts. Then you get a football coach that can recruit better players than they've got.
I'm saying they have potential to get better, but I do not think they ever will because they are not committed to it.

It's a small school by 1-A standards. There are only about 14,500 students, less than 2/3 of whom are full-time undergraduate students.
http://www.bc.edu/about/bc-facts.html And while it's the only 1-A school in Massachusetts, it's a private school, not a state school. They're not necessarily going to attract a fanbase in the Boston area, which is loaded with colleges (albeit no others playing football at the 1-A level). And unlike ND, they don't have a nationwide base of subway alumni to draw from. To make matters worse, they don't exactly have a corner on the high school talent out of the northeastern seaboard. Plenty of other schools recruit pretty heavily there, including a few (ND, Penn State and Miami come to mind) who are well above Fredo on college football's food chain.
Ken had it right. Fredo pretty well maxed out its potential under O'Brien. I suppose it's possible that they'll have a better season here or there than they had under O'Brien, but from the standpoint of being consistently competitive, what you've seen the past few years is about as good as it's ever gonna get for them.

10 years ago I never thought I'd see the day where ISU made it to a bowl game, but somehow they made it to 5 in a 7 year span. So you never know. Every program CAN get better. Do they really want to get better is the question though.

Fredo was in that position 20-25 years ago. Then the Mullet came along. Most of us thought Fredo had pretty much blown its load during that period of time. Then in the early 90's, the program started to get consistently good. They never had the single great season like they did in '84, but that was a strange season in many regards (BYU wound up as national champs after getting by a 6-5 Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl).
Like I said, I can see Fredo having a team that was better than any over the past decade or so every now and again, but I can't see them sustaining the kind of run they've had over the last decade. But I suppose stranger things have happened.

Yes, every Div 1A team strives for invites to the Houston Bowl, Insight.com Bowl, Independence Bowl (2), and Humanitarian Bowl. In the years those bowls aren't lucky enough to have the opportunity to selct ISU, ISU coughs up a furball as far as their record goes.

BC isn't a great job but it has been a winner for some-time under O'Brien, I think they definitely could've been pickier. If O-Brien was willing to jump I'm surprised his name didn't come-up for any better jobs than NCSU. Maybe he just recently became willing to jump and NCSU just got lucky.
BC should've went-for a quality nonBCS HC like a Steve Kragthorpe or Art Briles. Or they could've went for a name coordinator like a Bo Pelini.
