Coleman: Any intentioanl forward movement of the passer's arm starts a forward pass, and if he loses the ball it is ruled incomplete, even if he is attempting to tuck the ball back toward his body.

Garrard clearly starts the arm forward, and then loses the ball.
Why is that not an incomplete pass .... ?

Because the refs sucked at that game. Don't get me started.

It should have been ruled an incomplete pass, not a fumble. They didn't want to change the initial ruling on the field, but clearly that is what should have happened. Jax got screwed and NE was once again the beneficiary of a blown call.

Garrard's arm appeared to be hit forward by the Patriots' defender on the play. Fumble all the way.


Speaking of horrible officiating, how about the $25,000 fine sure to be levied against Clint Ingram for the spear on Brady that wasn't called? Or, the total bullshit roughing the passer penalty on Seymour that negated an INT?


Except for two plays where the Patriots had their heads up their asses... the Jones-Drew long TD run where he was knocked down by his own man and the Matt Jones TD on a blown coverage and missed tackle... the Pats totally dominated this game.

Ucant, the very initial movement of the ball forward was initiated by Garrard.
VERY soon after he started it forward, yes, it looks as if the defender pushed it strongly forward.

Once that initial forward motion begins, we are told that the QB is considered to be in the act of passing ..... until such time as he 'tucks' it.

I'd love to sit here for the next 5 years and debate this with you... but... a call was made on the field, the play was reviewed, and it was upheld. If you want to debate this play, let's just assume it's a make-up call for the Seymour 'roughing penalty' and call it a day.

You do need a WR. I thought you had a pretty good QB in Leftwich... when healthy. Is he returning next year?

Not sure. I keep hearing talk that he might be traded. I hated him and was so happy Garrard stepped in, but now I feel I took him for granted. Sure he was slow and not as mobile, but he was more accurate and had a stronger arm. I feel Garrard has potential but he's made too many mistakes lately.

I keep wondering what would've happened if we actually utilized Matt Jones as a QB and not as a WR. I didn't follow him in college... was he a decent QB?

Doesn't matter if it was hit forward or not after the initial intentional act of the QB to move it forward, and then pulling it back or "tucking" it. Garrards arm was hit after trying to pull the ball back.

Hey, I believe that rule to be bullshit, but that's the way it's been explained before. They should be consistant with the interpretation of their own rules. I'm quite surprised that they didn't over rule the call on the field, and will be further surprised if the league doesn't admit that the wrong call was made.

I thought it was a bad call as well. I saw his arm start forward before he was hit. As a Titans fan, I'm glad they blew the call AND the review. As a football fan, it just goes to show that even if they have replay, the refs can still get it wrong and that shit sucks.
