this happened about two hours ago. i'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned here yet.

being from grand rapids, michigan, the few things we have to beat our drums about here are ford, furniture, taco boy wet burritos, and the best fucking class a baseball club in the fucking nation. i'm not a republican in the least, and i wasn't alive when ford pardoned nixon, but i understand the magnitude. yeah, falling down stairs and all that shit, but you have to be a bad ass to make the fucking roll out of that like jerry did.

and i'll give the man this: played football at michigan, grand rapids house rep, ended up being president by default. simpsons episode, aside.

jerry never made many trips back home, but i'll RACK him anyway for being a west michigan native.

Agree with Screw_Michigan.

I was in high school during Watergate and didn't give a shit about politics. Worked a summer job at a lumber yard
when it went down. Asked my boss out of pure ignorance: "So what do you think about Watergate?" Dude cursed, spat some chewing tobacco at the ground and walked away. Next week I was out of a job.

When Ford gave Nixon the pardon I don't anyone was surprised. Tricky Dick got off. Ford cut him a side deal. I don't believe it to be the case. Ford wanted to stop the bleeding and he paid the price in the short term. He was an under-rated president and history will be very good to him.

He was a really decent human being. Only knock I have on him is his involvment in the sham warren commision.

I had him in the Death Pool. Too little too late though.

Some Ford trivia:

Captain of the football team at Michigan. Michigan also won 1 or 2 national championships while he was there, but I'm not sure if he was the captain of a national championship team.

Longest-lived U.S. President. He beat out Reagan by about 1 1/2 months. And he's guaranteed to keep that record at least until November 2017.

Only person to serve as both Vice-President and President without being elected to either office.

Ford died less than a month shy of the 30-year mark after leaving office. Among U.S. Presidents, only Hoover lived longer after leaving office.

Why (other then the fact that you're a dick)?

Some people make great (or even good) Presidents. Others make better ex-Presidents. Nixon falls into the second category. So does Carter. How would his death benefit you or anyone else (other than whoever has him in the Death Pool, or his estate beneficiaries)?

What... isn't that sufficient?

Clinton is a good ex-president. Carter is a shitbag.

Clinton has the good sense (and good manners) to keep his disagreements with the current administration to himself- or at least out of the media- so that he doesn't give aid and comfort to our enemies. Carter not only has his dick-slurper open every chance he gets, he actually thinks we give a fuck what he thinks.

fucking retard.

many people were "tactful" in keeping their disagreements with the president quiet. Now we're in a giant clusterfuck. If only more poeple had less tact.

giving comfort to our enemies? You think being stuck behind the 8 ball now doesn't make our enemies, real and hyped, happy?

mvscal wrote:Since when does sucking off arabs and communists makes a "great" ex-president.
Yeah, how could I be so ignorant? I also failed to note the insignificance of some of his other efforts, like Habitat for Humanity, fighting disease in third-world countries, and otherwise espousing what he believes, based on his experience as a statesman and his many visits with both Israeli and Arab leaders, will help to stabilize the Middle East. Sure, what he's doing goes against the conventional wisdom of what an effective foreign policy should be, which, of course, is simply to toe-tag all those who live outside (and inside, for that matter) the US who disagree with you. And as far as trying to ease suffering and eliminate disease in Africa, I realize the jungle bunnies all actually deserve to suffer, and that dying of easily preventable diseases is simply nature's way of thinning the herd by eliminating the weak, thereby making Carter a truly evil human being by trying to fight Mother Nature. And Habitat for Humanity? Puh-leeze! Enabling welfare recipients by providing low-cost housing built by volunteers is really a low-down, Communist endeavor.

And let's not forget that dude is an uneducated idiot with no idea of how the military operates. I mean, anyone could graduate from the Naval Academy (59th out of a class of 820) and be hand-picked by Rickover to serve as Commanding Officer for a nuclear submarine program, right?

So I'll backpedal, and concede that the world would be a much better place without Carter and his ilk sowing the seeds of terrorism, and with more compassionate foreign policy experts such as you and Coods calling the shots.

My bad.

That's a sentiment more people should express.

RACK you for recognizing a deceased President of the United States the way one should, instead of doing nothing but rehashing tired debate over their faults....as insignificant as they may be.

I want to apologize for not putting the flag in my backyard earlier than I did...it is in the proper position and it it'll stay that way until he's laid to rest in Grand Rapids.

RIP President Ford

If it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't get all weepy if Chimpy cut in line in front of Jimmah.

As long as Jimmah didn't get fucked out of his turn, that is

Hell at least they get the fucking flag to half staff...some of the public agencies around here can't even do that.. my neighbor is a Vietnam vet, his kid just got back from Iraq..he's retired so when a half staff day is called nationally or here in state, he has a list of offenders in the past.

He drives by the business / agency at 8:30 am, and if the flag is not down he either calls or walks in, offers to lower it for them.

Most have got the message. He calls or e mails me by 7 am to make sure I know, so I can get our flag to half staff at our shop. If for some reason, no one is around, he does it for us. Rack him.

I believe that the correct position is one flag length above half staff.

The flag is be be completely lowered, strike the colors to the top quickly and then to half staff.
