In Game: Texas vs. Iowa

Nice opening drive by the Hawkeyes, Tate made some athletic plays to avoid a couple sacks. Maybe he'll go an entire game without spiking the ball into the ground like a little bitch. Texas' defense seems tired. They still must be recovering from that Holiday Bowl game.
This is pretty much a home game for Iowa. I took them plus the points. Unless Mack Brown starts handing out sweaty envelopes of money to his players at halftime, Iowa should take care of these guys.

tate (pronounced tah-tay) is the oshiwambo word for father, which is pretty much the role he just played against texas that first drive. just saying, one drive and all..

Texas fell behind Baylor and TTech by two scores early....and bounced back. but, the horns look asleep today.

Our secondary got burned again. Big shocker there.

Damn that white kid from Iowa just blew past Aaron Ross for a TD. That's like 3.9 forty speed. Any seats not filled by Iowa fans are stuffed with drueling NFL scouts.

Damn, we suck really bad. At this point I'm just hoping Drew Tate goes Drew Tate and throws a couple of picks.

Horns fans know this better than anyone, but it never fails when opposing fans strike the upside down Hook'em Horns sign. I personally think it's cool when Soonerfan does it, in the same way I think it's cool when I see an "Ann Arbor is a Whore" t-shirt on a drunken Buckeye co-ed. But when other teams' fans do it, especially teams that rarely play Texas, I think it's pretty stupid. I'll even call out some fellow Buckeye fans on that one. I saw it in C-bus & Austin and I was pretty ashamed. But nonetheless, I realize it happens. Every team has idiot fans. No need to look any further than Jon or mTard to prove that point.
On the other hand, I'd never expect a player, at least from my team or a team not named Oklahoma or A&M, to do something like that. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised when I see a player (or players) from a team that historically plays dirty to flash the sign. Ya know, a team like Iowa.
That bitch Drew Tate just got a nice taste of Karma. Dude tosses a nice TD pass against the grain to his tight end. But then both of them gotta hold up the upside down hook'em sign. Flag. Play gets called back. Next play... Tate throws an INT. Texas, with class, drives right down the field for six. Karma. Justice.
Oh, but both of them are from Texas.... even funnier.

Your idiocy knows no bounds.
Texas is playing 45 minutes to an hour from their campus, and this is pretty much a home game for Iowa?
Iowa travels well, but there are far more Horn fans at the game than Hawkeye fans. So that angle won't work for you. We'll just chalk it up to stupidity once again.
The Brodell kid is impressive. I'd try to get that guy at least one touch on every series of downs the rest of the way. It looks like Texas doesn't have an answer for him.

Texas has not had an answer for an opposing passing game all season.

Iowa plays "dirty"? Why don't you expound on that idiotic statement, please. And it surprises you that two kids from Texas would do an "upside down hook 'em horns" when they're playing
against Texas? That is surprising
how? And
that, according to you, is "dirty" football? I'm thinking that you'd be the last fucking person I'd ask about whether something is "cool".

Yep, including Texas.
Mace
Thanks for that, Mace. Nice game.
I am one who really hates the upside down horn sign. I think it is disrespectful. When Tate was running down the field I was pissed. Then the penalty and the interception and all was right with the world again.

This game gave me no satisfaction. Yet again Texas plays just hard enough to get by. That has been the M.O. since the Nebraska game. The biggest factor in this is the complete disappearance of our running game in the 2nd half of the season. The fact that we ran out of the I formation a bit tells me I can expect hard times til we find our legs again. In 98 when Ricky won the Heisman, that team started slow and finished so strong I doubt there was a team outside the top 5 that could have beaten us. Tonight I doubt there is a team in the top 25 Texas could beat and we probably will finish in the top 15. Any top 25 ranking for this team is undeserved.
The sickening part is we have a secondary that will be statistically ranked around 100 and 3 of our starters will likely be playing in the NFL. That tells me the defensive coaches deserve an ass kicking. I hope Mack goes out and finds a new DC, (the talk is that the job is akina's to lose). He and Davis need to go back to square one with the running game. As of right now I'm just glad the season is over.

The Rag sucks and Sean Keeler is a moron.

Mace wrote:Okay, so I pull my copy of The Des Moines Register from the front door this morning and, low and behold, I find out why Sean Keeler (columnist) thinks Iowa lost to Texas......it's was those fucking officials hosing the Hawkeyes on the ineligible receiver call that negated a TD and, more importantly, was followed by an interception that changed the momentum of the game. Funny guy, this Keeler, 'cause he admits in the column that he has "never heard it" (the rule regarding a potential receiver being covered up by a wideout) and even awarded the "Pontiac Game-Changing Moment" to the officials. He ended his column by urging Iowa fans to send their complaints to the Pac-10 office (who provided the crew for the Alamo Bowl), and for those needing an address to "contact some fans in Oklahoma who would be more than willing to pass it along."
I saw the replay of this infamous play and totally agree that Scott Chandler was covered by the split end and was an ineligible receiver, although through no fault of the official. Nope, it was all Chandler's fault. You'd think that a senior tight end would know that he either has to be on the line or clearly in the backfield (depending on the formation) and it was very clear that he was in "no man's land"....neither on the line (which would have made him ineligible with a split end on his side of the field) nor was he in the backfield (which would make him an eligible receiver and obviously how the formation was drawn up by the coaches). It was a great play call by the coaches and a good call by the official who got blasted by Kirk Ferentz on the field and now by the moron sports columnist who admits that he's never heard of the rule and is now encouraging Iowa fans to whine like little pussies about the call.
Sorry, Keeler, but the official was correct in making the call and you're dead wrong for encouraging fans to be upset at the official. You'd be better off forgetting about it or at least placing the blame where it belongs....with Chandler. I receive the early edition of The Register so, when I went online to leave a link in this post, I discovered that his column that appeared in later editions of the morning paper had been edited so as not to include nearly as much whining about the official's call. The headline of his original column was "Strange call stunts momentum for Iowa" and, before reading the column, thought this was referencing the end around pass play call that resulted in a huge loss of yardage and which kept Iowa from mounting a scoring drive late in the game and, IMO, would have been a more accurate account of a "strange call".
Oh well, that's enough blathering about a meaningless bowl game played by two non-players in this years' top CFB teams.
Mace
I can only hope the resident Hawk fans at work Tuesday, are as non-illusional as Mace.

Just got back from the game, didn't read Keeler's article and probably won't. I have no idea why that d-bag is still writing for the Rag. Bring back Mark Hansen!
The WR pass playcall was the worst playcall in the history of football and I don't think it's possible to dispute that. We don't need a quick strike in that situation. We're down 2 at midfield with 3 minutes to go. In fact, we want to score but still use time off the clock so Texas doesn't get another shot. We had been moving the ball effectively most of the game. There was no need for trickeration at that point. Just run your base offense, get 25-30 yards, run some clock, and kick a game winning field goal. Having a true freshman WR try to make that play is absurd. If we were down 4 or more points......maybe. But at least use Jason Manson because he's a QB/WR. He would have had the presence of mind to throw the ball away, unlike Douglas. The last thing we can afford is a big loss, which would be a drive killer. Not only that, but we didn't set this play up by faking end-arounds earlier in the game. You have to set these plays up or they don't work against a good defense.
As for the Chandler play, I haven't really gotten a complete explanation. They said 8 were on the line, but I was sitting right in front of that play and had a great view and everyone sitting by us (including Texas fan), didn't think he looked to be on the line of scrimmage. I had as good of a view as anyone. But still, that doesn't matter. It was only a 5 yard penalty. Tate throwing that pick is what really killed the drive. We still had a chance to score. It's not like that play forced us to punt.
But, it was a good game. I just wish this team played with this much intensity all season long. Had they done that, we would have been 10-2 and headed to Florida. I think this game only proves what a poor coaching job our staff did all year.

but with all the first round talent and Kirk Ferentz how could your coaching let you down?
(Mace not a jab at you)
