The Police to reunite? You buyin' it?

I'm highly doubting Sting's ego will allow this to happen. Even if it were to happen, I doubt they'd hit the states. That's the suck.

Daily Mail in the UK says:

Sting is in talks to re-form The Police and tour with the group - 30 years after they were formed.

The band, who rank alongside The Rolling Stones and The Beatles among the greats of rock, are considering playing a series of dates in the UK next summer.

Consisting of Sting on bass and vocals, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers, the group have been in discussions for months.

They became one of the biggest bands of the Eighties with hits including Walking On The Moon, Every Breath You Take, Don't Stand So Close To Me and Message In A Bottle.

News that they are re-forming will surprise fans as Sting, 55, has always resolutely opposed the move in the past.

Sources say rehearsals have been pencilled in to take place before Sting begins the February leg of his latest European tour and after Copeland has finished his stint as a judge in the BBC celebrity duet show Just The Two Of Us.

The record label, A&M, is believed to be planning a special anniversary release in June and the tour dates would coincide with that.

A source said: 'They were intending to announce it in January after all the tour dates had been finalised.

'They are speaking to venues about booking dates in May and June. Everyone who knows about it is incredibly excited because they were a legendary band.'

A spokeswoman for A&M confirmed discussions had taken place but denied there were any firm dates for concerts.

She said: 'Next year is the 30th anniversary of the release of Roxanne, the first Police single. It is our intention to mark the anniversary by doing something special with the band's catalogue of songs.

'Needless to say, everyone is hopeful the band will support our plans and while early discussions have taken place, nothing has been decided.'

Miles Copeland, the former manager of The Police and brother of Stewart, said: 'It's the 30th anniversary and there has been mention of this for some time, but I can't comment.'

Stewart formed The Police in 1977 with Sting. Miles recognised the power of their blend of pop, punk and reggae and got them a record deal when he heard Roxanne, the first of many worldwide hits.

Soemtimes, it's hard for me to decide which unlistenable-after-their-second-album-band is more overrated:

The Police, or U2.

It's a tough call. Neither one has even put the slightest effort into proper songwriting since 1983, and has instead relied on the critics to sell their records to the unwashed, tonedeaf masses.

But at least they both have frontmen who make no bones about annointing themself the greatest musician to ever live.

Ghost In The Machine was good. October was OK. Nothing that either has put out since will ever fail to immediately give me a rash that needs medical attention.

YUK! Everything that's wrong with the music industry can be summed up in those two bands.

the best thing i've ever seen about Sting was from Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickenson:

"Sting acts like he's the only person on planet Earth who ever read a book".

Andy Summers has to be pushing 60. he was in his late 30's with the Police.....and was in the Animals with Eric Burden.....the guy is ancient. I'm a big Stew Copeland fan, though.

Will there be a Don't Stand So Close To Me '07? After all, the '86 version from their greatest hits record is so good! <sarcasm>

I don't have a dual PhD in Musical Appreciation and Know-It-All like Dinsdale but The Police were tight from start to finish. Ghost In The Machine was arguably their worst album and even that was an excellent album. There are few bands, if any, that hit a homer with every effort. They did.

As for the when did U2 and the Police start to suck argument, I would argue that Synchronicity showed The Police were about to ascend to Aerosmith levels of suckdom. But, they mercifully broke up before that could happen, leaving me with nothing but good memories.

U2, other the other hand, has done nothing but suck since Actung Baby.

Me too. That kid can play. He was always the element of the Police that made every song worth listening to...which is quite a feat, considering the presence of Sting - one of the classic scourges of popular music in recent decades.

I have been noticing a lot of activity from Copeland, and this is not wholly unexpected news...

Sure, focus one of two (The other being "Wrapped Around My Finger") lame offerings on the album.

For me, the meat of the album (back away with that frying pan Patsy) is with side one. With Synchronicity I, Walking in Your Footsteps, O My God, Mother, Miss Gradenko and Synchronicity II, there is not a bad song to be found there. In fact, there wasa time in my life when side 1 was in very heavy rotation on my record player.

Side two is hit and miss with King of Pain and Murder By Numbers being fairly tolerable, the aforementioned Every Breath You Take and Wrapped Around My Finger sucking ass and Tea in the Sahara being a gem that saves side two of the album from a total thumbs down.

So, the way I looked at Synchronicity was that compared to the previous 4 absolutely off the hook Police albums, Synchronicity was a definite step down the food chain. Not a total waste mind you, but a sign of a bad trend that Sting's solo career has since confirmed many times over.
