tOSU vs FLA Discussion

Ok let's get the discussion going full swing...

my thoughts right now:

tOSU - Obviously they are legit. They ran the table as one of only two undefeated teams in college football. They have already beaten two #2 teams although some would say the media contrived it that way. Very very strong on offense (duh) and Smith, Ginn, and company will have their hands full with the FLA defense. I think tOSU can run on the Gators, but it would need to be running at them. I don't think you can go sideline to sideline on them. Tressel is a master at coming up with wrinkles...5 wides vs Michigan on the goal line, the 2nd and 1 play action to Ginn for a TD, all wrinkles that the OSU coaches have come up with. Not sure what new wrinkles they can come up with. I think tOSU will try to establish the power running game early and if Pittman can break off a few big runs then that will take the onus off of Smith. The biggest question outside of the FLA front 7 is Rust...will they be rusty? Tressel is 3-0 in BCS bowls (all Fiesta) so he has a nice formula of getting the troops ready.

I think tOSU needs to get off to a fast start and can't rely solely on the passing game. I think FLA would have a problem covering all of tOSU's WR's...ask Iowa how it felt to try and cover Gonzo with a LB...I look for some new wrinkles and a physical game.

FLA - A variety of offensive weapons, but do they rely on the trick play too much? Percy Harvin is the real deal and if Wynn can provide any running game Leak and the FLA WR's will be dangerous. To me the biggest thing is tackling...tOSU can't let Harvin, Baker, etc get too many YAC or what not. I think the OSU DL can pressure Leak and if they hit him in the mouth a little he might get a little skittish...

I think FLA will score a reasonable amount of points on the tOSU defense. OSU needs to get pressure and keep the big plays to a minimum.

Right now my score prediction is

tOSU 31
FLA 23

tOSU pulls away in the 4th quarter after FLA goes ahead 23-21...too much Troy at the end.

Thoughts? Disucss?

Florida's secondary will do a better job against the Buckeye passing game and Meyer will throw out a lot more in the way of creativity with his offense. I still favor Ohio State but Florida will further prove they did deserve to play in this game by giving the scarlet and gray all they can handle.

Ohio State 35, Florida 31

It's a game in the 1st Half. I say 14-7 Bucks at the Half and then tOSU pulls away in the 2nd Half.

tOSU 27

tOSU - One Hundred Billion
UF - 3

Chris Leak gets gangfucked by hordes of shitfaced Buckeye fans after the game, and enrolls in OSU's graduate school for dance in the fall.

OSU - 27

Urban Meyer, with time to offensively gameplan, should score some points....
Michigan, who gave OSU all the wanted got exposed last week.

Another couple shit takes.

Let me simplify for you marooons.

Each game is independent of all others. How one team did against a certain opponent has no bearing on how it will fare against another. Common opponent arguements are pointless and tiresome.

By your logic FSU is better than USC....props to Mr.T.

Buckeyes lose on the grounds of national media cock blowing and the Heisman jinx. After seeing how a lot of those teams fared during the season, maybe it's safe to say OSU had an easier schedule than first thought.

you mean like Texas?

we shall see...both teams will be a little rusty but again I think too much Troy in the end...

Florda can't run the ball. Chris Leak has been overrated since being recruited by ten colleges. Urban Meyer has never been there before, Tressel has.

tOSU is going to deep-dick Florida.

So what does Skip Bayless do this year, if OSU wins definitively?

he'll figure something out I am sure...and it will probably revolve around their schedule...

Exactly like Texas. OSU beat them with the passing game, but pretty much every other team was able to throw on Texas. The wins against Texas and Michigan looked real good when they happened, but looking back maybe both those teams were overrated. I really think OSU will win but he past few years have come up big for the teams almost no one gave a chance to.

If by "no one," do you mean the media, ESPN, the majority? Because I don't think that applies to Ohio State this year. Yes, they are #1. But I've noticed quite a few talking heads picking Florida. And that's been the case with tOSU all year-- vs. Texas & vs. Michigan. I don't think this year's game is anything close to last year (USC) or 2002 (Miami) with regard to one team getting zero respect.

Coach = OSU - Tressel's been there before, been the man at a national power longer and is arguably one of the best gameday and big game coaches in football

Offense = OSU - Florida's WRs and TEs are as good if not better than OSU's but OSU's QB and RBs are much better

Defense = UF - they MUST stop the run and bring constant pressure and containment on T Smith, no easy task

Special Teams = OSU (Florida's FG kicker sucks out loud)

For Florida to win Leak needs to have a great game, the defense must limit the big plays to Ginn Jr and Gonzalez and sack T Smith multiple times. Also, Florida must score TDs since they can't kick a FG.

UF 28
OSU 27

Any BuckeyeFan interested in a sig bet?

i am in for a sig bet. and tell me A.C. how can OSU have the edge in Coaching, Offense, and special teams, yet you pick them to lose?

Fla Def
http://www.cfbstats.com/2006/team/235/defense.html
OSU Def
http://www.cfbstats.com/2006/team/518/defense.html

What I see is basically a wash. neither defense stands out to me. Sure fla has given up less rushing yds (by 100 or so yds), but osu has given up less TD's. and through the air, FLa has given up more yds (about 400) and the int and Td's are about the same. FLA has a good defense, but not one that stands out so much so.

Note to any OSU fan taking Crut's sig bet. I suggest you make it a 100 post sig bet.
