Sports Announcer Jim Lampley Arrested On Charge Of Abuse

Encinitas, CA (AHN) - Veteran sportscaster Jim Lampley was arrested on Wednesday on charges of domestic violence. Police are investigating Lampley for other charges as well, including violation of a restraining order and preventing a witness from giving testimony. The 57-year-old was released on bail yesterday from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
Capt. Glenn Rebell spoke on behalf of the police. The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred at the residence of Lampley's girlfriend.
Lampley's long career covers a wide array of sports. Most recently he sits ringside at boxing matches for HBO and operates several businesses. Starting in 1974, he began his work in sports media, beginning with ABC. Eventually he worked for all three of the major networks in the U.S. In 1987, he started working for CBS and did his first work for HBO. In 1992, he became affiliated with NBC, after which time he has covered the Olympics and the Goodwill Games.
In recent years, Lampley began moving into other domains, particularly after the 2004 election. He writes for The Huffington Post, a political website. He also appears on The Jim Rome Show, filling in for Rome at times.
Married three times, Lampley divorced his most recent spouse in 2000 after 10 years of marriage. According to his Huffington Post biography, he runs a production company with his ex-wife in Hollywood.
In his 18 years of working with HBO, Lampley has provided the ringside voice for over 400 fights.
