Recruiting

As it sits right now USC has a few decent players in this years recruiting class, but have only 13 commits. with the AAA game coming up there are a few more kids on the Trojans list.
Joe McKnight, Deonte Thompson, Marvin Austin, Donovan Warren, Chad Jones, Anthony Gildon, Malcolm Smith and Da’John Harris
McKnight says he has already made up his mind on what school he will go to but still has to take all 5 visits, USC, LSU, Ole Miss, Clemson and possibly Texas will be his 5 visits but it seems McKnight is down to USC and LSU.
Word around Thompson is that USC jumped in to the lead with him after his USC visit, if Jarrett leaves SC for the draft that could factor in to Thompsons choice. Carroll will be making visits to Thompsons family and show Thompsons mom that USC is the place for her son.
Marvin Austin has been listing USC as his #1 but he does have a visit to FSU on Jan 19, if distance isnt an issue, USC is where he winds up, after seeing him on his trip to LA, he seemed to fit right in and recruit Everson Griffen has really been puching Austin to join him at SC
Donovan Warren is reportedly down to USC and Michigan, he and his family really enjoyed their trip to Ann Arbor but at Warrens press conference when he decides where he is going to go, Donovans Godfather, Mark Carrier, and close family friend Willie McGinnest are scheduled to be there with the Warrens, Carrier and McGinnest are Trojans.

Seems 5 star DT Da'John Harris from Serra High School just commited to USC, that gives the Trojans 14 commits, 9 of them 5 star players

after watching the Army All American game today has to get you excited.
Servites' Galippo is a total STUD
Marvin Austin is Scouts new #1 player in the nation
Donovan Warren should be nick named "Blanket"
Marshall Jones looked good
Kris O'Dowd looked great at center and got in to a lil scrap with Marvin Austin, careful guys, you're gonna be team mates in a few more weeks

Would have liked to see Broderick green get a few more carries but the east looked horrible on offense, 5 qb's at an all star game is kind of a joke, who's idea was that anyway?
Once again on the big stage Jimmy Claussen is upstaged by another QB, in the Cal State title games it was Aaron Corp, today it was that mallet kid heading to Michigan
I think the best part was Lemming talking up all the ND recruits and NDBC's overall Irish love fest

I think Austin ends up in Tallahassee. At least he is acting like the distance is going to play a factor for him and USC.

Definitely looking forward to seeing Mallett take over for Henne in two seasons. Most fans up here though are getting tired of the stationary pocket passer and want to have their own Vince Young, Troy Smith or even Drew Stanton. When Michigan pulls in the talent they do after receiver and running back, do you really need anything more than a quality passer who manages the game well at the QB spot? I would like to see a more athletic QB but between the talent at the skill positions along with their consistently strong offensive line...Mallett should do well at Michigan. I just think some of the fans are just getting frustrated with the lack of success against the Buckeyes and in the holiday exhibition games.

A key recruit on the Michigan radar is DB Ronald Johnson out of Muskegon...they can't let a talented player leave the state at a need position like corner. He's a must-sign guy for them because the secondary isn't shaping up to be very good next year.

very possible, but the guys he hung out with most the week when not at practice was Everson Griffen, Chris Galippo, Joe McKnight, Donovan Warren, Kris O'Dowd, Marshal Jones and the other Trojans.

Claussen didnt do much in the game yet he got more camera time than EVERYONE else in the game, then they close the coverage with all the ND recruits.. I understand the game is on NDBC but there were 80 All Americans there and all deserved notoriety not just those going to Lemmings school

Then call NBC and bitch to them.
Why did Clausen have a bad game? I saw him make a number of very impressive throws, as did Mallett. Don't hate the kid because he didn't pick your school and don't hate NBC for promoting themselves.
From what I've hear Corp actually has his own website so if that's not the picture of arrogance and self promotion then I don't know what is.
Claussen is the #1 recruit in the NATION, so who cares about the camera shots? I'm sure in your opinion he went to the production truck and made sure the director was to get him on camera the most and forget everyone else. I also saw a group of kids who were committed to Illinois, Florida etc.....get their camera shots during the game.
How the hell do you know Austin hung out with the $C guys all week? Were you there? No wait, maybe you're hanging out at the wearesc board with those tools who actually think they know something about football. bunch of fucking band geeks and film majors. Hell you'd fit right in.

didnt say Claussen had a bad game, just that he wasn't even the best QB on his team yet still had the camera in his face going to every commercial break.
The broadcast was a total ND love fest but that is because Lemming was too involved.

Oh wow, he can post pictures. Wow, congrats. Is that a future court docket? Or just who's going to commit a crime and get away with it?
How many of those guys can actually get into the school on their academic merit? I know for a fact that certain schools couldn't touch your boy Everson Griffen because of his stellar 12 on the ACT. Along with Mat Kalil's stellar 1.9 GPA. Way to go Pete...only recruiting the best and brightest.

dont be so bitter, its a nice day out, and you just got to watch the NBC love fest for your school.

"Hey, I know lets not even bother to see what the MVP thought of the game when its over, lets go talk to all the kids who played on the losing squad and are going to Notre Dame. After that we can talk to Jimmy Claussen again"

I'm sorry, didn't they talk to Gallipo when they presented him the trophy? Didn't they also talk to Mallett?
I'm sorry, your hate for ND is more obvious than my hate for sperm receptacle U.

my hate isnt for Notre Dame its for Lemming and NBC's biased coverage and recruit rankings. Its not too much to ask for unbiased coverage of what is being pushed as the leading All Star game in America every year, they may as well had the thing in South Bend.
When the game is over they should have talked to the MVP, they should have talked to the guys who scored the TD's, they shouldnt have gotten a bunch of future domers together again, after many did nothing in the game and were on the losing team to prop them up. They shouldnt have had Lemming talking about how ND was going to win the title in 4 years, they shouldnt have had Lemming in the booth at all.

I'm not going to sit here and defend Lemming and NBC because there is no defense, however what if the guy in Lemming's shoes is an $C homer. Would you be as upset that he's giving the Trojans a lot of publicity?
They did talk to the MVP when they gave him his trophy, or did you miss that?
Who should they have had in the booth? Gary from wearesc.com? Pete ArBLOWgast? Any $C alum besides Lemming? Who do you suggest?
If you know that Lemming is going to be in the booth announcing the game and the game is on NBC why are you so pissed off at the biased coverage? that's like marrying a woman who has been unfaithful and you getting pissed that she's cheating on you. It is what it is so quit bitching about it.
Now, regarding that article....that was very funny.

The Texas players had a good showing in the AA game. DT Andre Jones was dominating the East oline, Curtis Brown took an Int almost alway to the bank, Tray Allen was the most athletic of any onlinemen there. I was hoping to see more of John Chiles but he was invited as a QB and didn't get much of a chance to show his stuff.

Best of all Brantley didn't look like the QB he was made out to be, I am less concerned about his loss to florida; and to be honest I wasn't that concerned to begin with.

according to Scout.com Griffen has
scout.com wrote:Final senior (12-1) stats: 77 tackles/16 sacks; 159 carries for 1250 yds/22 TDs. Griffen reports a 3.3 core GPA and a 1020 SAT score
Kalil is an 11th grader, not sure where you heard the 1.9 stuff, he is at Servite, maybe he failed that "intelligent design" nonsense class

Yeah, I know he's at Servite. It's just what I heard from someone who actually does recruiting. Granted this particular school system calculates GPA differently.

Do me a favor....go to a book store and pick up the book "The Blind Side" by Michael Lewis. Towards the end of the book there is some enlightening material about how schools get kids admitted.
It's probably no different for Griffen than it was for the kids at Long Beach Poly who enroll in the PAAL program to help BOOST their GPA. Granted 3/4 of the people in that program are....hold on...wait a minute.......members of the football team.

did you know that Mack Brown gets recruits early by having them declared "learning disabled" they are given no time limits on the SAT tests and lower standards. Either that or there is a huge amount of dyslexic football players in the state of Texas.
I forget what the label is, title something. It was pointed out in an article by some coaches from Baylor

I'm not surprised. There are loopholes in EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE and coaches know how to take advantage of those. It's a shame because most of these kids actually think they're going to play in the NFL and don't give a shit about getting a degree, granted a high school diploma is probably out of the question too.....well without a lot of extra help.

Don't bother, cause we all know you are full of crap

BTW every kid committed to Texas is already 100% qualified.

Is THAT what he told you during recruiting? I think it was more of a commentary on you in particular and not on recruiting in general. Don't backstab the people that are trying to help you.

something I read that was brought up from another Texas based program, I'll see if I can find it. If I can remember it was something that Texas does to allow students with certain disabilities have extra helptaking SAT exams as well as getting in to easier classes.
It was called Section something (a number I think) and Brown tells the kids, who are juniors in High School, that if they commit to Texas, he and the board of education and help the recruit qualify for the program, even if theyre not dyslexic. Then they will get the help for the higher test scores and better grades. Well one kid decided to switch commits to a different school in Texas, I think it was Baylor, could have been A&M or Rice and he asked the recruiters from that school if he will still qualify for the program that Mack helped him get in to.
It was a recruit from a couple years ago, Ill see if I can find the article.

Amazing since none of their recruits need help getting into school. Not one, Infact Texas has about 6 guys in this class that will be early graduates and join the team this month.

In the entire time Texas has been in the Big 12 I can't think of a single recruit that has been a partial qualifier.

You know, you're bitching about them having all the ND kids together at the end for the East, but look at what each of them did:

Trattou - Numerous QB pressures, pass break-up to force a 4th down, and a fumble recovery.

Gray - Played excellent cover corner, had a pass break up or two, and made a few tackles.

Little - Caught the only TD pass for the East.

Kamara - Didn't do much but the other kids were all ready there.

Now had they trotted out Armando Allen or Mike Ragone, I might agree with you.

As far as Clausen goes, he was the #1 player in the country for the entire year and they ran with it, like they did with Tebow last year. And Mallett did look good, but the defense also couldn't blitz so these games are set up for the QB's.

Each year, I'm more and more in favor of an early signing period for football players. It's disgusting thinking about the number and quality of kids ND lost out on this year that had at one time or another, committed to ND.

Thats about the only way I would believe you.

Texas has a hard enough time keeping good students in the program most of the time the questionable ones that make it in by the skin of their teeth flunk out. See Edorian McCullough, Romonce Taylor, half of the 98 class. DE Mike Williams and many many more.

Mack usually doesn't offer grade risks anymore.
