Seems to me that the solution is to have a big ass open field somewhere for tailgating and some shuttle buses available to take people to the game.
Score another win for the "well if it makes us safer" crowd.

Fuck it. I have to work on Sunday anyway. I didn't have a dog in this fight and with this bullshit, my passing interest just went to benign apathy whether I see any of this alleged "championship."
Hard to pick a side on this one, to many solid arguments on both sides.
All the security is probably overkill but it's also naive to think a Superbowl in Miami is just another game.
It would make a solid target for some real fucking evil people. Some folks are going to make serious mint renting spaces just outside the "Safe Zone"
Rack Em in Advance....
Score one for the regular guy,

Rack that. I grew up about a block or so from Rosenblatt in Omaha. My brother and I made some serious cash (80's) renting out our driveway to CWS fans. We could fit 5 cars at 10-15 bucks a spot. People were very generous and appreciative of having a secure place to park their vehicles. Most tipped us and we would even wash their cars if they wanted us to. Great memories.Y2K wrote:Hard to pick a side on this one, to many solid arguments on both sides.

Dude...
I don't think the Security Risk they are worried about will be coming from anyone who actually gives a fuck about the Football Game.

Fuck an A right.....no Islamic fundamentalist in their right mind is going to waste good jihad money on a high dollar ticket and then pull some shit in a congested parking lot upon a world stage event like that.Shoalzie wrote:That's pretty stupid. More NFL bullshit ...
No watching the Super Bowl at Soldier Field
January 28, 2007 - Despite an official request from the Chicago Park District, the National Football League won't allow a showing of the Super Bowl at Soldier Field.
The League owns the show and is adamant its for private, home-based viewing by individuals.
The park district proposed admitting fans for a nominal charitable donation. The NFL said that would water down T.V. ratings.
Tail-gating, however, will take place in parking lots around soldier field. The price is the regular $15.

Good job, NFL. Within a week's time your well on your way to alienating a nice number of true fans. Looks like they weren't satisfied with pissing enough of us off with the NFL Network games this year. Fucking asshats.

I am going to pray to Ditka that He take immediate legal action on behalf of the Chicago Park District.
If I'm not mistaken, Soldier Field is a fucking public facility built with public dollars, when the NFL was worth about as much as one of Prince's farts.
I get that the broadcast is "owned" by the NFL, but the NFL doesn't determine who watches what, where.
Ooops, my bad. I've just been flagged typing this. I'm sure my NFL viewing privileges will be suspended immediately. Then again maybe not ... they can't afford to not have me watching the greatest event ever broadcast in human history, along with a few thousand who might show up to give money to charity.
Time for me to get Ditka as my NFL viewing advocate. I'm pretty sure my posting abilities here will be suspended any day now if I continue this unsanctioned criticism.

Watch it, bub. The NFL can and will suspend your viewing abilities at will.R-Jack wrote:Dumbest. Fucking. Executives. Ever.
I think a lot of us have heard former players -- a given that current players aren't allowed to speak on this subject on the record without being fined -- as the "No Fun League."
How about a new one: "No Fan League."
That should work out very well for them, if they keep up this idiocy.
If you manage 14 viewers, we'll look the other way, for now.R-Jack wrote:I was planning to have about 10-12 folks over to watch the game.
But we need proof. Get a Nielson box in that house, we don't care how you do it. Have all 14 people fill out that they were watching every single, solitary, exciting moment of CBS's coverage of US, with a cattle prod placed squarely on all of your guests' naked anuses and we might let this whole thing slip under our radar, if you're lucky.

Ri-fucking-diculous!
The Super Bowl is becoming less and less about the fans and more about money and ratings. Why else are the ads becoming too big of thing during the game? Between this and the tailgating...Lamar Hunt must be spinning in his grave. This is further proof that while TV allows all of us to watch the game, they also do just enough to keep the product from being as good as it could be.
Is the NFL going to do the same thing to sport bars? Believe it or not, I think more than one person watches the game on the same television. It's not like 100 million people watch the game on 100 million different TVs. Are they really that worried about how many people watch the game...especially since no one on the other channels even try to compete with them on Super Bowl Sunday? Just count every fan that is inside of Soldier Field...how does that water down ratings? Christ, if fans want to freeze their asses off in a stadium to watch the game...those are type of dedicated fans the league shouldn't turn their back on.
I think we're so addicted to the NFL that we allow this type of crap to go on and we really have no voice in the matter. That league sometimes thinks they are bigger than they think they are. They think they know what's best for us, the fans/consumers.

Seriously, there's nothing worst than a disgruntled Redskin fan, who has now become a disgruntled NFL fan.
I know what they're doing too. Pretty soon the entire playoffs will be PPV only and soon after that, the entire season.
What do I get ? A fucking WOP and some nerdy telecom rich cat fucking around with something that wasn't broke until THEY took over.
I hate them.
At least the Caps try to win.
I'll be watching whatever hockey is on T.V. and if there is none, I'll be playing EA Sports NHL 2007 AND CHEATING so the Caps will win.
Occasionally running into the family room to ask people how the games going and what commercials were the funniest.
You're right, no sense in lying, I'll be watching.
BUT UNDER PROTEST GOD DAMNIT.
I'll bet they'd throw my ass in jail if I wanted to spray paint ..... "NFL EXECS SUCK DICK" on the Capitol steps.
WAR ANGRY

How many die-hard fans get to go to the Super Bowl anyway? Isn't it about 90% Corporate/NFL bigwigs?

Btw, the first uber-dork in here who starts a thread about SB commercials and how "funny" they are or how "cool" the halftime show is ('sup Jack, smackaholic) is, in advance, officially the world's biggest gravy-training faggot.

You have to ask?
So ESPN and the other networks can fully milk every "Great Superbowl Moments" special they can slap together in 5 minutes.
Remember way back, when Icky Woods did his dance? Wait, that wasn't "way back," it was 5 minutes ago. Nevermind.
Without their help, I would have completely forgotten that Joe Montana has a house full of MVP trophies.

It might have something to do with giving the players some rest and recuperation after 19 consecutive weeks of being involved in car wrecks. This ain't soccah, you know.Nishlord wrote:So why is there still a two-week break between the conference finals and the Super Bowl?
Well, that, and the NFL wanting to milk every last available $$$ from the event. So what? We're a capitalist society. That's what we do, and do better than anyone else.
