"I Don't Believe In The Sun" by The Magnetic Fields

DOWNLOAD IT HERE -------> http://download.yousendit.com/AEE190FD3AD43A7C

The singers deep dark voice is what makes this song #1 on my list in this category. It just played on my iTunes Shuffle and made me think to start this thread.

The album "69 Love Songs, Part I" is sensational, by the way. In case you don't have it already...

They say there's a sun in the sky
They say there's a sun in the sky
but me, I can't imagine why
There might have been one
before you were gone
but now all I see is the night, so

I don't believe in the sun

How could it shine down on everyone
and never shine on me

How could there be
such cruelty.

The only sun I ever knew
was the beautiful one that was you
Since you went away
it's nighttime all day
and it's usually raining too

The only stars there really are
were shining in your eyes
There is no sun except the one
that never shone on other guys
The moon to whom the poets croon
has given up and died
Astronomy will have to be revised

Drown In My Own Tears -- Ray Charles

Not sure who the definite artist for that song was but Ray's version is my favorite. Joe Cocker's cover from "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" is very good as well. It's covered quite often and there aren't really any bad versions of it that I've heard. Aretha Franklin and Dinah Washington did a great job with it.

Honestly though, my top 3 or 4 favorite sad songs are probably all done by Ray Charles. I'd probably say Lonely Avenue would be 2nd on the list along with Crying Time and Cry not far behind.

Wow.

You are a man right?

Try "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" by the Rev. and see what a sad heterosexual man listens to!

It reminds me of a close friend who passed away. Now kindly go fuck yourself.

It will happen to you one day Baked. If/when Wiferice leaves you and you feel like she rubbed salt and lemon juice in your heart, you put that song on real loud, turn out the lights, get drunk and you will feel Al's pain. (Hopefully not the pain of the grits that were tossed on him but something less scalding and more emotionally crippling)

The Assassin, I am sorry for your loss but I stand by my derision of you for your song choice. You listen to Radio Disney when you feel happy by any chance?

Okay.

How about "I Miss You" by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes? That shit is 8 minutes of beautiful sadness.

The Temptations - I Wish It Would Rain

Sunshine, blue sky, please go away,
My girl has found another, and gone away
With her went my future, my life is filled with gloom,
So day after day, I stay locked up in my room

I know to you it might sound strange,
I wish it would rain (oh how I wish that it would rain)
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah

Cause so badly
I wanna go outside (such a lovely day)
Everyone knows that a man ain't supposed to cry
But listen, I got to cry, cuz crying, ooooooooh,
Is the pain, oh yeah

Yeah you know people, this hurt I feel inside,
Words, they, could never explain,
I wish it would rain (oh how i wish that it would rain)
Oh let it rain, rain, rain, rain (oh how i wish that it would rain)
Ooooooh baby

Let it rain (rain, rain)
Oh yeah, let it rain

Day in day out, my tear stained face
Pressed against my window pane
I search the skies, well, desperately for rain
Cause rain drops will hide my teardrops and no one will ever know
That I'm crying (crying) crying (crying)
When I go outside

To the world outside my tears I refuse to explain,
I wish it would rain (oh how I wish that it would rain)
Rain, rain, rain (oh how I wish that it would rain)
ooooh baby

Let it rain
I need rain to disguise the tears in my eyes
Yeah, You know I'm a man, I ain't got no pride,
Til it rains, I'm gonna stay inside,
Let it rain, Let it rain
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
Oh how I wish that it would rain...

Some of the saddest songs I've ever heard are some of the horrific "music" selections you clowns link up on this forum.

I wouldn't say they're "favorites," though.
