Pretty cool. I wish FSU could have done a little better in-state. They got recruits from 8 different states but w/ soo much talent in FL, it's a little disappointing they couldnt land more than 9.

Oregon had 3 in-staters...three.

That's what drives a lot of fans nuts about Bellotti -- he prides himself so much on being able to steal SoCals away from USC and UCLA, that he lets all the good in-staters go elsewhere. It's freaking stupid. Jesuit HS assembled what is being universally regarded as the best (and biggest) offensive line in state history, and I'm not sure if any of them pledged to Oregon. But hey, it's not like o-linemen are key to success on a run-and-gun, "track-meet" team, eh?


But all those other schools were more than happy to scoop those guys up -- actions that I'm sure were accompanied by "BWAHAHAHA!!!! What a dumbass that Bellottti is!"


It's really becoming a disturbing trend with the guy. Sure, it's far from a particularly populous state, but just like the other 49 states, there's plenty of football talent out there. And heaven freaking forbid he goes out and gets the good ones...because it's not like a bunch of them grew up as Duck fans, or anything.

ND being a private school, I'm not too concerned about in-state recruiting. We draw our student body from all around the country. Why should the football team be different?

It does appear that we're recruiting the South better than used to be the case. That may be a good sign.

Looks like USC got about 40% of their class from out of state. Weird.

there's a guy who's been posting at a couple of the CU sites since i can remember that has pretty conclusive statistical evidence that for the vast majority of state schools once you get beyond 500 miles from campus....your haul drops way off. and 750 is basically, forget it.

it's pretty convincing when you look at the guy's stats. now, for Colorado i think some of that is multiplied by it being a relatively low density/population state in pretty much all directions.

I dunno...if you look at Oregon's stuff on that map, you'll see a huge number of marks starting right around the Los Angeles area, and continuing south. LA is roughly 900 miles from Eugene.

And an off-the-top-of-my-head-guess...there's probably almost twice as many people in the greater Denver area than the entire state of Oregon.


Maybe Oregon is the exception(due to Bellotti's previously mentioned faults, which might make the siuation unusual), but using them as my sole example, it tends to indicate the opposite of what you say.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not fully refuting your statements, I'm just pointing out that they're far from universal...since U of O was the only school I looked at on that map(then closed it in disgust. I didn't want to see how badly Bellotti was failing in the in-state department compared to real coaches).

Got that. UF scored 8 of the top 10 recruits in state.

How much do you think Lilly's departure will hurt? You lost your top two recruiters in Steele and Lilly(I think it was you that said Lilly was your recruiting coordinator not Steele).

Lilly doesn't seem to be leaving and yes he is FSU's recruiting coordinator. He interviewed w/ Bama but it looks like he isn't interested. He is very good at what he does.

I have a feeling FSU will have greater succes in-state in '08.
