ACCPN shows itself again

If there was even a tiny iota of doubt left that ESPN is really ACCPN in college hoops season it was erased last night. During the Super Tuesday telecast of the Michigan/Michigan State game they cut away DURING GAME ACTION to show bonus coverage of the OT game between VaTech and UNC. I honestly don't recall one single instance where a game was interrupted in the middle of live action to show another game outside of the tourney. It's not even like it was some historic upset or anything. The Hokies are a ranked team who had already beaten, handily I might add, UNC earlier in the year. Simply amazing that they did that.

ACCPN is just lucky that they didn't pull that crap during an IU game or I'd have driven to Connecticut in a diaper to blow their broadcast satellites up.

Give it a rest. A Top 5 team was about to be upset and that Top team was UNC. It's not like the snoozer in Lansing was fun to watch.

29-29 at 13:15 in the 2nd Half is really entertaining.

I was watching the MSU-Michigan game (with interest), but I didn't have a problem with the cut aways. You gotta love games that come down to one possession.

Now, it would've been another story if MSU-Michigan were tied up with 2 mins left, or something.

That being said, I'm not denying ESPN's obvious love affair with the ACC.

The bonus coverage was also being shown on ESPNEWS at the same time. So ACCPN had not one but TWO channels showing us the ACC game. If there was a break in the action then by all means cut away but it's inexcusable to cut away from live action.

And Crown, if it really has nothing to do with the ACC then why exactly did ACCPN never cut away to action from the Texas Tech/Texas A&M game where the team ranked #6 in the country was about to be upset??

B/c that game was being shown on ESPN2, dipshit.

allegedly, ESPN cut away from the Duke-Carolina game to show some of the Oklahoma-OSU game down the stretch regionally week ago Wednesday......didn't happen here in Denver because i had the DUke-UNC game on muted with the OU-OSU game on the net....but some posters at soonerfans.com were saying it happened in the Bedlam game thread.

THAT blew me away.

now, the wrinkle is both games were not on at the same time since the OU-OSU game was trumped by the US-Mexico soccer game on whichever ESPN wasn't showing Duke-UNC. normally, OU-OSU is on one of the ESPNs.

Well the VaTech/UNC game was on ESPNEWS so if you're claiming they wouldn't cut away to a game airing on one of their other networks then you'll need to try again.

I'd have thought you'd like the love ACCPN gives to your conference since both of your favorite teams are in the ACC. Or do you have a co-favorite conference too??

KC- No cut away from the Dook/UNC game in these parts.

Shine,

Where I live, ESPNEWS needs a separate "package". You even need digital cable to get it whereas basic cable has both ESPN and ESPN2. I would imagine many areas have the same setup.

You would be right Indy. More people get ESPN2 than News.

Shine,

In the past, I agree that ESPN definitely showed more ACC games and it made sense since they were the best Conference in the Land. Now though, they devote a night to each of the major conferences and I think their coverage is much more evenly spread out.

I'm OK with it. The best college hoops is played in the ACC, more often than not. And since FSN is "all PAC10, all the time" here Out West, we get the best of both worlds.

Actually in terms of what games they air not much has changed at all. They still have their Big Monday schedule and their Super Tuesday schedule, just like they (seemingly) always have. If I were to be extremely nitpicky about the whole thing I could point out that the Wednesday lineup is dubbed ACC Wednesday. And of course they rotate their Saturday lineup as always and showcase the smaller conferences as well.

My gripe isn't with what games ACCPN airs, it's with the lovefest the announcers and analysts have with the ACC. That has been a perpetual issue since I can remember with ACCPN. I have a major issue in and of itself with cutting away from a game DURING LIVE ACTION so when a network like ACCPN does it for, shocker, an ACC game it ticks me off. My main concern is I DO NOT want this to become standard and accepted practice. When IU is on I am on the edge of my seat and live and die with every single possession. I'm a man possessed when IU is the 9 o'clock game and the end of the 7 o'clock game gets closer. I pray for a swift ending, no OT and no drawn out TO scenarios. I'm a bitter, bitter, bitter human when I miss even the first 30 seconds of an IU game. I will go ballistic if an IU game is ever interrupted during game play.

In related news since Dins brought it up, I hate that the Pac10 is relegated to FSN. Until I upgraded to a special sports package I missed virtually every Pac10 game due to this. The time zone thing can't ever be worked around but as much as I rip on ESPN the simple fact remains if you aren't getting air time on their network your team/conference is an afterthought in most peoples minds. For all the things the Pac 10 does better than any other conference their TV deal is pathetic.

If you live in the Pacific Tiem Zone, or cities that are "PAC10 strongholds," it's not an issue. More PAC10 ball than there is time to watch it....or, in as much as the less-flexible scheduling of the PAC allows for, anyway.

You must have been a wreck during the old ESPN Big Monday lineup, when the Big East had the early game. Those hackfests always cut 10-15 minutes into the Big Ten game.

There is definitely no shortage of Pac 10 games on television out west. And I kind of admire the Pac-10 for sticking to their guns on the scheduling deal. Face it, most people east of the Mississippi won't stay up for the Pac-10 games anyway so it isn't like they are losing a major audience. By not getting in to bed with ESPN at least they aren't slaves to them for starting times and such.

You must not like the NCAA tournament coverage then, since this is pretty much CBS' standard M.O. for the first three rounds of the tournament.

But I agree with you about ESPN and the ACC.

So what? The post you quoted only acknowledged the rather obvious. He said he had a major issue with cutting away from a game during live action. Nowhere did he say he liked it better during the tournament.

But keep nipping at my ankles, several days later, if that's what floats your boat.

To me it seemed obvious that he didn’t have an issue with breaking away during the tournament. He mentioned that they do it during the tournament, but he didn't say, "I hate when they do it there, too". But Terry the Dullard had to weigh in with his brilliant “You must not like the NCAA tournament coverage then” take. Scintillating stuff there.

Also, I wasn’t online from Wednesday afternoon until Monday morning, so that was the first opportunity I had to address your “contribution”. And if we examined every time you’ve ever been taken to task for your “posting skills”, have you ever not come back with an ankle-biting reference?
