At first, when I saw that, I thought my brother had gone retarded and created that after I saw the little baby, then I remembered his kid's name is spelled "Colin" and not with 2 LL's. I was gonna beat the crap out of him if he did that. But yeah, seriously, somebody gotta get a life! Poor kid, his parents will be showing this to everyone non-stop for the next 30 years and this kid will, at some point in his life, get his ass kicked at school because of it.

do they actually have kids from Iowa playing for Iowa? Thought the best an Iowa kid could hope for was to go to an Iowa school and cheer for kids from other states who are represnting the Iowa school on the field

We have Iowa kids on our roster, it's just that we have to go out of state to recruit the majority of the players because Iowa high school football is not very good. There's just not enough good recruits. Every year there's a couple of really solid D-1 prospects in Iowa, but that's about it. Now, we've had guys like Dallas Clark, Robert Gallery, Jared Devries, Aaron Kampman, and Casey Wiegman come out of nowhere and become big-time CFB players. But you just can't consistently win with Iowa kids........which is why Iowa State always sucks. They like to stockpile their roster with Des Moines' finest! And that ain't gonna cut it in the Big-12.

This year's recruiting class does not count because Gene Chizik was hired in late November and basically just stockpiled his roster with whoever he could land from different JUCO's.

The point is, you cannot win with Iowa kids consistently....plain and simple. You'll find the occassional hidden gem in Iowa like Dallas Clark, but you have to build the main core of your team around players from other states. High School football in Iowa is NOT good......compared to most states. I used to cover HS football in Iowa and I can tell you from watching many Friday night games at different high schools around the state that there is not a lot of college talent out there. 10-15 players is a HUGE exaggeration.

Think back during our 4 year New Year's day bowl stretch, Mace, and tell me how many of our top players were Iowa kids??

Top players from 2002-2005 from Iowa.....
Dallas Clark, TE; Robert Gallery, OL; Jared Clauss, DT; Nate Kaeding, K; Grant Steen, LB; Tyler Luebke, DT; Kyle Schlicher, K; Mike Elgin, OL; Brian Ferentz, OL.......anyone else I'm forgetting??

Top out of state players from 2002-2005.........
Brad Banks, QB; Fred Russell, RB; Albert Young, RB; Maurice Brown, WR; Eric Steinbach, OL; Abdul Hodge, LB; Chad Greenway, LB; Fred Barr, LB; Jovon Johnson, DB; Bob Sanders, DB; Sean Considine, DB; Scott Chandler, TE; Ed Hinkel, WR; Clinton Solomon, WR; Marcus Paschal, DB; Matt Roth, DE; Jonathan Babineaux, DT; Kenny Iwebema, DE; Drew Tate, QB; Mike Jones, OL; Derreck Robinson, DE; Tom Busch, FB; CJ Jones, WR;

Now, I'm sure I've missed a few of the top players for both the Iowa and out-of state sides, but look at those lists........there's no comparison. Heck, 2 of the top Iowa kids are kickers. The biggest problem with recruiting in-state is the skill position talent just isn't there. We have to go out of state for that. I think Matt Stockdale (CB graduated in 2001) was about the last good in-state player we've had at a skill position.

The biggest difference between Iowa and ISU is they actually build their program around Iowa kids (now, things could change with Chizik). And the difference is we consistently compete for New Year's day bowls and upper division conference finishes and Top 25 finishes while they never compete for New Year's Day Bowls or Top 25 finishes and only make shit bowl games- if any bowl game at all. And that just goes to show you that you simply cannot win if you build a program around Iowa kids. You have to build your program around out of state players and then try and get as many Iowa kids as you can that can be role players or the occassional All-Conference type player (ie Gallery).

Hayden did recruit a lot of in-state kids (more than Ferentz), but even with that, the majority of his key players were from out of state. He recruited Texas heavily. And things were a bit different back in the 1980's, because I don't think there was as good of skill position players around the country as there are now, so Iowa kids were considered better football players. There are much better pure athletes right now in CFB (and the NFL) than there were 20 years ago. Remember, Hayden's program started sliding in the 1990's because he didn't have good skill players.
