5) Troy Smith/QB/Ohio State: Another player who left college on a sour note, Smith needs to throw the ball with accuracy and consistency or he will drop out of the top 60 picks.
How is that possible? And if any of you know, what Heisman winner was drafted the lowest? Surely all of them have been drafted in the top 60, huh?
I can't tell if you are serious or not, but if you are, Charlie Ward wasn't drafted.

And wasn't one of the reasons Ward decided not to play football because he wasn't viewed as a 1st or 2nd round pick?
Also;
Gino Torreta, Ty Detmer, Danny Wuerfuel and Eric Crouch were all drafted very late or not at all. Hell, Weinke was no better than a 3rd round pick.

CFB is WORLDS apart from the NFL. I always laugh when someone says that the worst team in the NFL du jour... let's say the Raiders, could get beaten by the best CFB team. Complete joke.
Sheer athleticism can get you by in CFB. Rarely will sheer athleticism get you by in the NFL. To me, that's the definition of Troy Smith.

And no, he doesn't... NFL arm strength isn't about the ability to lay the ball deep down the field. NFL arm strength is the ability to throw the 10-15 yard out without getting it picked off every single time. Troy Smith does not have THAT arm.

It's no diss on Smith to not be a highly touted NFL prospect. It is the facts. Apparently his game does not translate to the next level. This is not an un-common event. What I find funny is how this board blew Troy all year long, and is in line with the so-called experts as they discredit the Heisman winner. How about some of you bastages form an individual thought...
I happen to be of the school of thought that Smith had several career outings against my beloved Wolverines. It would take the sting out of it if he were an all-world qb-to-be. This is not the case. What I find interesting is how Buckfan is claiming that they knew he was a college-only talent. Y'all pimped Troy to no end...until Florida handed him his ass. Sack up and stand behind your guy. Will he make those who pass on him pay, or will he fade into oblivion?

I think Troy Smith will go in the 3rd-4th Round and be a serviceable back-up for many years. He has a good arm, not great and he is mobile. Jon Gruden really liked him at the Senior Bowl, so I wouldnt be surprised to see him get drafted by the Bucs.
Rarely does the Hesiman Trophy winner turn into a NFL stud.

he was GREAT for THE OSU....but, he is not Tall for the NFL.
(he was TALL enough to KICK some WolverweenieASS though!!!!!)
i'd like to think that whomever Drafts Troy...in Later Rds. gets a STEAL!
the BROWNS won't draft him @ 3-4.

Not really since most teams were scared off by his long commitment to the military.
People told the San Antonio Spurs to not draft David Robinson for the same reason, I'm glad they didn't listen.
I would take Troy Smith with a 3rd round pick, but I'm pretty sure he will go sooner. Getting drafted is no indicator on how his NFL career will go, lots of great QBs didn't get drafted in the first two rounds. I don't need to remind anyone how many that were drafted high which didn't pan out.

Yes.
If he did, it was because of one damn pass against UMiami.
That's a common perception in hindsight, although not entirely accurate.
Watch that game the next time it pops up on ESPN Classic (the whole game, that is; not just the last two minutes). And as painful as it is, pay close attention to Brent's comments. He was pimping Flutie for the Heisman all game, not just merely after The Pass.
I could see him winning and then being drafted low because of his size.
Flutie actually signed a contract with the New Jersey Generals of the USFL shortly after his college career ended. That probably had at least a little to do with his draft status.

Obviously. Where did I say it was?

Maybe not Peyton Manning-strength, but it's there. I doubt very seriously you've seen him attempt to make that throw enough times in order to know this with absolute certainty, considering it wouldn't be a routine play in OSU's offensive playbook.

Troy Smith and AD are falling like rocks.
Which makes sense when it comes down to playing in the NFL.
AD and Marshawn have been working out together down in Arizona getting ready for the combines, and reports are that Marshawn's 40 time was better than AD's, at 4.34. That was the only question mark the NFL scouts had concerning Lynch going before AD in the draft.
The combines should be interesting.

I actually heard quite the contrary. Some of the staff was quoted as saying Smith didn't belong there, did not look good, and couldn't pick up the offense. I think somebody on the second day of the draft will get him and it won't really be a wasted pick if he washes out.

Bull.
Shit.
The link doesn't say a damn thing about Peterson's 40 time-which is expected to be sub-4.4.
Pssst!!! It was a link to AD and Smith dropping in the draft. Did you see anything in the link on Marshawn's 40 time???
Believe the Heupel wrote:The only question mark? How about the fact that Peterson is flat-out better than Marshawn Lynch being the major question mark about drafting Lynch ahead of Peterson.
Ummmm... you have to be able to "catch" the football and "block" as a running back in the NFL.
You also need to be tough enough too make it through a "whole" season without breaking like a pretzel.

The fact that your list includes McKnight as a faller calls its credibility into question automatically.
Weis calling him a 1st rounder was pure puffery, nothing more. He's had a history of the drops throughout his college career, and at no time did it ever appear more pronounced than this year.
He's a helluva athlete for sure, and actually has the chance to be a better pro than he was a collegian. But even the most ardent ND fan never saw him as a 1st rounder. And the fall in his draft stock occurred as a result of this season, not what happened afterward. In fact, McKnight is pretty much the prototype of the guy who looks far better at the scouting combine than he does on a real football field.
Based on this season, he looks like a 4th rounder to me. And even at that point, a team would be taking him more on potential than on productivity in college.

Believe the Heupel wrote:Oh, well, then. I'll just say that Marshawn Lynch is dropping like a rock due to his running a 5.5 time in the 40.
My bad... Marshawn ran a 4.36 40 and not a 4.34 40.
2:07 p.m.: Cal running back Marshawn Lynch has a lot of versatility, and he’s looking forward to showing it off in the NFL. “I like lining up in the slot and set up some one on ones and get into space.” The 5-11, 215-pounder expects to run in the 4.3s after being timed at 4.36 on Feb. 7. One of his coaches, upon seeing several mock drafts with Lynch going to Green Bay, told him to ‘get your hat, your gloves and your coat because it's cold up there.’ “But that's alright with me," said Lynch. A self-proclaimed momma's boy, Lynch said: "The first thing I'm going to do when I sign my contract is buy her a house, even if it's in Green Bay."

Believe the Heupel wrote:Um, you have to do a little thing called "Be good" to play as a running back in the NFL. In that category, Peterson beats Lynch like a rented mule.
You really didn't want to go there... but you did, so I'll play along.
2004... Marshawn played behind the leading rusher in college football. Yet, he still averaged close to 9.0 a carry for 628 yards.
Now we'll go head to head... with both players as starters.
2005... Marshawn had
1246 yards and averaged
6.4 yards a carry.
2005... Adrian had
1108 yards and averaged
5.0 yards a carry.
2006... Marshawn had
1245 yards and averaged
6.1 yards a carry.
2006... Adrian had
935 yards and averaged
5.6 yards a carry.
Psssst!!! Every season Adrian Peterson has played "College Football"... he's been out rushed by a Cal running back!
AD doesn't have...
the speed...
the moves...
or the power of a Marshawn Lynch!
Marshawn Lynch
*Remember*
Marshawn played with 2 and 3 star lineman in the PAC 10...
AD played with 4 and 5 star lineman who were the best in the country!

Peterson is a tremendous prospect. The only knock I'd have against him is the fact he gets hurt so often. When he's healthy though, few can compare to his natural abilities.
I don't think it would be crazy for the Lions to take him at #2 because of the issues with Kevin Jones but I think they could find a decent back in free agency. I think Joe Thomas or JaMarcus Russell is their probably their best choices.

This seems to be the consensus opinion from the NFL Network's combine coverage on the guy (for what that's worth). His injuries have been separate, isolated cases, and not recurring, nagging issues. Doesn't sound like this will be a huge factor working against him on selection day.

For the tards with a hearing problem... let me help you out.
The NFL network kept mentioning that their early numbers were unofficial!
Here are the
official combine numbers...
http://www.nfl.com/combine/story/10021441
40- Yard Dash
Marshawn's 40-time is 4.46
Adrian's 40-time is 4.40
The only #'s that matter... are on the football field, and Marshawn takes those hands down.
Walter Payton 4.60
Jerry Rice 4.62
Marshall Faulk 4.58
...and
Emmitt Smith 4.71 40...
Just as a point of reference. Was picked 17th in 1990 draft by Dallas Cowboys.
That same year, Blair Thomas was picked #2 in the draft by the Jets, partly on the strength of his 4.4 40 time.
Rest is history.

Shuttle 20 and 60, and the 3 cone... you know, the thing you need to do in the NFL (make moves) at high speed?
Oh my... AD's not even on the charts, and Marshawn is in the top 2 of 3 in those lists.

Why the hell would Peterson even stay at the combines, after hearing his brother just died???
I guess the
money was just a tad more important to AD than his family and the loss of his brother.
I know his dad did some hard time in the slammer... now we know where his character/lack of came from.
I just lost a lot of respect for Adrian Peterson.
A real man... would have said "Fuck the combines" I'm leaving to be with my family!
I guess this is how the phone call went...
AD's Mom: Adrian, your brother just died...(crying in the background)
AD: Really, no shit? Mom, can you do me a favor?
AD's Mom: Yes dear, anything you want (more crying in background)
AD: Yeah, could you put little bro on ice for a couple more days til' I can get back. I think I can make a couple more bucks if I stay.
AD's Mom: How much more??? (crying stops in background)
The two discuss money til' the wee hours of the morning... while little bro justs

Or he could have told his Mom that he was coming home right then, and his Mom told him to stay and run, because his brother would have wanted that. And then catch the next flight home.
Nice spin, as always, dipshit.
Marshawn isn't faster than Peterson, which you initially said. That being said, I think a 4.46-49 is damn impressive, given the drag you produced by hogging down on his fuckstick.
