A&M @ Texas - Tonight

I'm pretty geeked up for this game tonight. My main concern...early foul trouble. It has been a problem for us with our big men getting ticky-tack fouls called on them to start the game. As it is a rivalry game, our guys need to know that the officials will probably be calling it close to start the game.
I expect t.u. will start out with guns a blazin jumping out to maybe even a 17 point lead or so. However, I expect A&M will weather the storm and be down 8 by half. Second half will be Acie Law IV and Donald Sloan time. Yeah, sloan. Dude has been getting better and better every game. He's Law's replacement for next year. Also, expect Josh Carter to light it up from behind the arc as well.
5 minutes to go and it will be a 2 point game, either side up. This is where Law will take over. I expect to see a Law/Durant shootout. The game will come down tot he last posession, t.u. up by 1 and Law sticks the dagger at the buzzer.
A&M - 83
t.u. - 82
And A&M will still be considered a lower seed than Kansas even though we have the same record both in and out of conference and we beat them...
Oh, and sig bet for Harv. Sig to remain until the end of the conference tourney or A&M meets up with t.u. again, whichever comes first.

I think most everyone has both teams as 2 seeds right now, although KU is better positioned to get to a 1 than ATM is. Perhaps if ATM had won one of their bigger OOC road games they story would be different. Auburn and Winthrop don't resonate all that much. KU still has the UF win on their resume along with BC and USC. Sure KU has the bad Oral Roberts loss too, which is why they have to fight their way up to a 1 and aren't there already.

Figuring out who is the 1 or the 2 seed between the two doesn't mean anything. Kansas is going to the St. Louis regional and aTm is going to the San Antonio regional.

Ahhhh...yes. I have been waiting for this rematch for the last 23 days. The good news for Texas is that we are playing better than our last meeting with the ags in College Station. If memeory serves correct it was a tie game with about 7 to go and then we fell apart.
Normally, I would tell you about emotion with it being senior night and all but we only have 1 senior and he plays about 5 minutes a game. Scratch that.
It is a rivalry game. That should count for something. But, we start 4 freshman and they are just getting used to the rivalry.
I think it will be a close game. Durant will be a monster. DJ will have 20 and 10. The guy that is going to cause problems for A & M is Damion James. He is getting better and is drivning to the basket more. AJ Abrams is also shooting the ball well. I think he was like 2-17 against A&M last time. He must have missed 10 wide open shots. Not tonight.
I think that A&M will come out strong and then peter off. Texas will show up in the second half as the ags go cold.
Texas 93
A&M 77
I am on for the sig bet.

I would give anything for A&M to be in the St. Louis regional. It ain't happening, but I would love it so I could go to it. I can't make the trip to San Antonio. If we make the Final 4 though, I am there.

Yeah, I know. Hence the sarcastic
I think if we win out, we're a 1. Our destiny is in our own hands...and we'll have to go through KU most likely again to do it.

this is exactly what i was going to post, the #1 seed is a sweet cosmetic deal but i'd much rather have a #2 or even #3 if i were KU to STL and ATM to San Antonio. and as the south midwest regional power, KU will always play in KC or STL. Much like Duke or Carolina will always play in Charlotte or Greensboro as the flexible #1 seed in either the East or South.
i haven't posted my annual curmudgeonly
"the pod system is a joke"/designed to protect high seeds for TV$ and is anti-competition rant yet this year.....but, it might go here.
if it weren't about the money and the network bling, then WHY did the NCAA LIE about it's original "post 9/11" rationale? for security reasons and fan travel since people were tentative to fly....sure, sure, sure......it's about protecting the higher seeds and network ratings and homer fans in the seats spending money at local merchants. it was inevitable that something like the pod system would happen/was going to happen (a complete 180 from the old system--minus Duke or Carolina always playing in Charlotte or Greensboro--which sent big boys from the East to places like Ogden, Utah or Austin
to guarantee a neutral floor)-- instead they cynically used 9/11 as the rationale to shoehorn the "system" into place.
it's a political economy of sport that directly intervenes in outcomes (in favor of economics) and is thereby basically a form of favoritism and uneven playing fields.....from our great governing body whose love of sport (cough...NCAA football playoff?....cough) is it's only guiding principle. ...that might seem impossible, would it not?
sin,
KC the curmudgeon (who liked seeing high seeds freeze their balls off in a cold, half-empty gym in Ogden, Utah to rally against some upstart like Mississippi Valley State).
next up on the docket would be: the idiocy of the national media/advertising craze for picking brackets OR countdown to Billy Packer's annual rant about how the committee should be a hand-picked team of experts "who KNOW basketball" (no computers) with the underlying implication being that he should be part of it's leadership OR how tired i am of getting the analysts/ad people's reversible selling logic of the "Cinderella" theme jammed down my throat for 3 weeks--either the mid-majors are THAT good or they are big upsets....WHICH IS IT? can't have it both ways.
that said, WAR the tournament (and that it's still a long way off until the rat-bastards completely ruin it and turn it into the Super Bowl).

And I was right to begin...foul trouble on the big guys. Not ticky tack fouls though. A&M is holding their own, but we'll see for how long with our center on the bench.

Sorry, as I hate A&M WAY less than I do Tejas, but if Tejas put a big Texas on their floor, then A&M would HAVE to put a bigger one on theirs... like, to scale.

Going back and forth between this and Duke/Maryland.
Great night of college hoops.
Oh, and yeah, that court would look much less gay with just the Horns logo on it.

Great game. Why is it that we keep playing these great OT games?
One minute Texas looks like a veteran team, the next they look like a group of Freshman.
God, I wish they would all stay for 4 years.
