i was all for mizzou to go after him, before Snyder had actually retired, while we speculated who MU should go after when q was fired, his teams play hard, he gets a ton out of average talent, and his teams dont quit.
at one time it looked like lowery, guy from aTm, and anderson were Mizzou targets, i was one of the few who thought lowery was the #1 choice. aTm guy postured got a great deal, and MU set sight on anderson, either way, i was happy with any of them.
i still say anderson is a great hire, but lowery is one hell of a coach, and has fit the mold of very good coaches at SIU.
SIU has to break the bank
he is getting the st.louis kids that MU and SLU dont think are div1 talent, and he's winning with these kids. 4 of mvc all-mvc team were from missouri. i believe creightons best player is also from st.louis area.
don't get me wrong, i'm completely happy with anderson, but lowery deserves his props.
Is Chris Lowery the best young coach in college basketball?

It's hard to say, and Lowery is certainly in the conversation but I'll throw out 2 other names of guys I think are pretty fookin good coaches.
Gregg Marshall at Winthrop. Dude can flat out coach and he was on my short list of young coaches I wanted to see IU make a run at if they went the up and comer route. My guess is his days are numbered at Winthrop and he'll be in a major conference gig sooner than later.
Brad Brownell at Wright State. Another guy I was hoping IU would look at, especially since he has Hoosier roots. UNC-W was a beast with him there and as soon as he bolts they go into the tank and Wright State challenges Butler in the Horizon. I think he'll have a good 3-4 year run at Wright before he lands at a major conference school.

"Our staff is going to ensure that anyone who attends this University and wears the Indiana uniform will make this privilege among their highest priorities and not treat the opportunity as an entitlement,'' Crean said in a statement. "We fully expect our student-athletes to accept the responsibilities academically, athletically and socially that come with representing one of the top programs in college basketball history."
