Saw this flick last night...would recommend.

Here is a great review of the movie and while it makes it sound like a "blow you away movie", I think that description might be a little much.

I was wondering if this was a "Wait until DVD'r" or not.

Are the effects and what not superior enough to warrant a $40 committment to the movies ?

$12 for me, $12 for the wife. Refreshements etc.. etc..

$12? It's no more than $10 here. I still use my College ID so I get in for $7.50. You dont have to buy refreshments you know?

Well I hate to say a movie is great, build up expectations, and then have someone disappointed. More specefically I hate when that happens to me so I try not to do it to others. I would say it is worth seeing in the theatre unless you have a wide-screen and surround sound at home.

Additionally, I usually go online through fandango, movietickets, moviephone, etc. and buy the senior/child tickets and use the print at home option. The ticket takers never look to see what category is listed on the ticket (usually small print anyway) so it only cost me $7.50 w/ the service charge.

Force of habit Cicero, I used to chew tobacco (I'm almost up to a year of no Kodiak) so I'd need to buy a soda for myself ... and the wife .... who could blame her for not wanting to share a soda after I had Kodiak in my mouth.

Anyway, the drill was two sodas, a bag of popcorn to share, and a complimentary "water" cup.

So I rounded up a bit.

The previews make it look mythologized. No beef with that, artistic license and all. Just kinda weird since "Troy" was de-god-ed, so to speak and rendered more down to earth and like a historical movie. Did the siege of Troy really happen? Sure, probably something like, but who knows what's the deal with any of the Homeric details. Thermopylae really did happen. I doubt some of those CGI monsters in the preview were really there.

DVD? Sure, I'm there.

So what you're saying is that you've got to have a happy ending or the whole thing sucks and the other two hours are meaningless, right? The story is everything. Not even the story, but the end of the story. You must not have much appreciation for the process and all the other stuff that goes into making a film, I guess.

I just came back from seeing it. If you are into that kind of movie, then go see it. I was entertained, purpose served, $18 well spent ($8 tickets, $4 twizzlers, $6 (including tip) pint of Arrogant Bastard before we went). Luckily I don't rely on a motion picture as a source of history.

I am just using your quote as reference TWIS, but the movie is adapted from a comic series by Frank Miller (Sin City). It is in no way intended to impart any knowledge of history, but is simply using a historical event as a backdrop to its fantasy. It is just a movie.

It was directed more at the "it doesn't follow the historical event accurately" crowd. I read about "where" it came from when I saw a preview and thought it looked interesting. I guess my point was that I went to be entertained, not for a history lesson, some people have a hard time separating the two.

Went and saw this flick yesterday....thought it was a good sit.

Clearly, the theatre was full.....and I was one of maybe, 6 women in the whole joint. Lucky for me, I was able to sit in front of one of the other "elite .03 percent" that felt she actually had to play "consult" to Leonidas throughout the entire film. After the movie, I wondered if she went home thinking, "had he taken my advice, they would've actually came outta that whole thing ALIVE"!

Anyhow, I enjoyed the creatures in the film......the pimped out rhino, the gargantuan elephants, Edward lobster- hands, and the 9ft. Xerxes.....to name a few. Obviously an exaggerated element taken from story-tellers, but only adding to the enjoyment of the film. I also enjoyed the the fact that the Spartan warriors spent most of the movie in nothing more than a leather diaper, and a cape. (hides)

Debinitly a "theatre" flick.

I absolutely appreciate the process of good storytelling. When I first posted with you fu*ckers, I was in college learning to be a screenwriter.

To me, a good story has an attention-grabbing beginning, a solid middle and a conclusion that brings it all together. This story only has the first two elements.

Sure, you can still tell that story, but how do you end it? Do you just scroll, "...and he was never caught..." across the screen before the credits?

Just got back from the theater. They need to market this movie more towards WOMEN. Screw all the love stories and mushy-gushy girlie flicks. Two hours of watching these men was plenty for me. Wow.

EDIT: And people brought their little kids to this movie. Appalling. :x

If so, congrats, that's a tough one to finish off.

I used to bowl in a league on Monday nights, and I shot a 299 once (Fucking 8 pin)....by the 8th frame, pretty much the whole league was backing off the approach when I went to take my turn; it was nerve racking as hell (with the 200+ people just standing around watching me up close and personal like that), but cool none-the-less. Sad part was, I was so drained from the flirt with 300 in the second game, that I barely shot 150 in the 3rd. blew the hell out of my series for the night.

My wife tells me I need to embrace my "inner-neck" and take up bowling/softball/golf more, but I don't know. Golf is good, softball I really enjoy; but the bowling league season is so damn long.....

Woke up this morning still hardly believing that I'd finally done it. I've been bowling for many a year and just didn't think that it'd ever happen. I'd always get close, only to choke it away once I started thinking about it too much. By the 10th frame, just about everybody else in the league had come down behind lane 13 to watch. Lucky lane 13. I said to myself, "if not now, when? You can do this". I was surprisingly calm and buried the 1st ball, a no doubter, 10 pins in the pit. The 11th frame my knees started shaking as I couldn't believe the opportunity right in front of me. I pulled it slightly left and that sucker went brooklyn and carried. I'm like, "you just got away with that one, this is meant to be". 12th frame, a high, hard shot to the pocket that just barely stayed down enough to trip out the 4 pin. whew!

I don't think it's going to really sink in until they hand me this:

Mike, I caught "Zodiac" a couple of weeks ago. (Forgot about this thread until now.) If you're passing on the movie due to the knowledge of the end of the story, then you're making a mistake. This was a riveting film. David Fincher ("Se7en" and "Fight Club") knows how to lens a movie. He captured the look and feel of the era perfectly. The casting was tight and the guy playing the Zodiac killer is perfectly creepy. Knowing the outcome, or at least for the most part isn't what the movie was about. Breaking down the hunt for Zodiac was, as well as the pychological breakdown of most of the characters affected by this event.

Though Hollywoodized, the films' finale and coda before the credits roll nicely wraps up the loose ends.

Definately worth a look.

Actually, my team was bowling against 2 of the best bowlers in the league. One averages about 215 and the other 220. One of them had just shot an 814 series the previous week on the next pair over. They both struggled last night with their $200 bowling shoes and their latest in technology reactive resin balls or whatever they're using nowadays. Me, I'm out there heaving my trusty 15 year old urethane Blue Hammer that's been obsoleted for 10 years. If the lane oil was so wrong, I'm thinking they would have shot the lights out, too.

No, it was just my night and I was in zone. Bowling against these fucks made me raise my game. There'll be no problem with having this game sanctioned. It was the first one shot all year in this league.

Actually, I wouldn't say bowling a 300 is an athletic achievement, being as how I shot it the 2nd game of the series after we working on our 4th or 5th pitcher by then. But an achievement it was nonetheless. For a bowler, it's the equivalent of a MLB pitcher tossing a no hitter. They just don't happen that often.

For the pinnacle of athleticism on this board, I'll refer you to Dins flying 360's in yo' face slam dunks he routinely throws down in the local YMCA rec league.
