I like our chances.
What do you think?

i don't know, i like Howland and UCLA's ability to ugly it up and make KU settle for jump shots late in the shot clock and shorten the game but if KU comes to play......they're pretty tough.

I have Kansas winning this game. I think it will be a great game and I cant wait till Saturday. I think if Kansas sets the tone for an up and down game, they will out last UCLA.

Careful Mook, if you don't respond quickly enough seer will send you a PM questioning why you aren't responding but then hide himself and not offer up anything of substance until after the game.

It should be a good game. I think it's going to look very similar to the KU/SIU and UCLA/Indiana games. Both teams play fantastic defense. I think that Kansas has more talent than UCLA but UCLA definitely has more experience in games of this magnitude. It's truly a toss-up type game. I think Kansas proved they could win a slower game with their performance yesterday against a very tough SIU team. I thought SIU was good, but they were better than I gave them credit. UCLA shouldn't be able to run with Kansas and I think they will try to slow it down, if they don't slow it down they're in trouble. One thing I think is interesting is how little respect the Kansas D gets. Everybody talked about SIU's D and last night all the talking heads were talking about how UCLA's defense could be the difference. I think Kansas has one of the top 2 or 3 statistical defenses this year and routinely shut down opponents.
I truly think Kansas is a little better team this year, but that could be my homerism talking.
On a side note does anybody think Rick Majerus is good on television? I think he's just awful. But I do enjoy listening to the former UCLA "coach".

i think Majerus is terrible. i've been saying it for two years to everyone i know. he does *no homework* like even who the teams he's calling played in their last game....and always gets player names wrong. he's also in the Billy Packer school of picking the star player and talk about him non-stop and rag on his teammates.
he's coasting bigtime and cashing checks.

Alright I looked up NCAA Defensive Statistics and this is what I could find.
Kansas is #2 in FG % Defense. UCLA and interestingly, SIU are not in the top 50.
Kansas is #6 in Blocks. UCLA not in top 50.
Kansas is #29 in scoring defense. UCLA is #18 and SIU was #3.
Kansas is #3 in Scoring Margin. UCLA is #13
Kansas is #21 in steals. UCLA is not in top 50.
Kansas is #6 in rebound margin. UCLA is not in top 50.
This wasn't to slam UCLA. This was to point out that Kansas plays defense as well as anybody. The blocks and rebounding statistics confirm that this isn't the Kansas of the past. This is a tough team that can win playing a variety of styles.
That's enough stats to cover me for the next couple of years.....I don't like looking that crap up.

Dude, don't get Ducksfan started.
I'm not exactly sure why, but Majerus has taken on Duck-hating as a full-time hobby.
In a radio interview the other day, he claimed that a tourney victory over Oregon was the most satisfying of his entire career(in a game where Oregon didn't even play well). He's expressed hatred for U of O, Ernie Kent, and all things University of Oregon. I don't remember which show it was, but it was national, not local. And when asked about this obsessive hatred, he could offer up no reasons or explainations. I can only guess that Ernie Kent nailed his OL at some point.
Frankly, it's kind of weird. And even if an announcer has a personal bias, he should make at least a small effort to keep it to himself, especially if he has no explaination for his behavior that would make for some anecdotal entertainment for the viewers/listeners.
So, whatever it is you feel about Fatjerus, multiply it by 10, and you might understand how Duckfans feel about the guy and his inexplicable obsession.
Don't underestimate UCLA's defense. Remember, they played a crazy-assed OOC, and many of those weren't exactly pushovers. Also, remember that they play Out West, where we love our wide-open, run-and-gun hoops. I think point differential or margin expressed as a ratio might be a more accurate way to compare defensive abilities....UCLA can put the clamps dpwn with the best of them.
But Kansas/UCLA? We might see a 29-28 buzzer-beater* victory for one or the other.

I worry about that pressure D getting into the head of Chalmers and Robinson. UCLA is so damn intense picking you up from the half-court line and they are more than willing to allow the drive and pick up a charge or play the passing lanes.

by War Wagon
Kansas had their gut check close call game last night. Now through the SIU defensive gauntlet, they won't see anything near as intense as that again. They'll be too strong, too fast, too deep, and will run fuc-la right off the court.
KU 76
UCLA 64
That's the plan anyways.

I agree the UCLA pressure D will be tough. Kansas' pressure d could get into the head of Collison as well. He has had games this year where he was a turnover machine. He reminded me of Mario Chalmers from early in his freshman year......and that isn't a compliment. Collison is not careful with the basketball.
Another thing in this game is that neither team shoots free throws worth a damn. I thought Chalmers looked a bit scared at the line last night. This will be an interesting game.

I agree with that. I think UCLA is as good or better defensively than SIU, but UCLA has better athletes. UCLA would love to have Howland loosen the reins, but Howland is all about tough man-to-man so that is what you'll get....not much energy left over to run....
On a side note does anybody think Rick Majerus is good on television? I think he's just awful. But I do enjoy listening to the former UCLA "coach".
Thanks for the " on the word coach.....

Just responding in kind my man. So don't take my posts as being posted like this, :x, but rather like this, ;).
FWIW, I'm glad to see Howland getting UCLA to achieve at a high level without running afoul of the NCAA rule book.

Great game for the Baby Bears.
What really impressed at the end was that when a lot of teams would just be holding and trying not to give up the lead, UCLA actually increased their lead in the last couple of minutes by sinking their FTs and continuing the pressure defense.
RACK the Bruins.

Very frustrating game to watch for me. UCLA really outplayed Kansas today and deserved to win.
Nice job UCLA.

KU missed more gimmes than Phil Mickelson on a Sunday.
Props to the Bruins. More poise, more precision. They deserve the spot in Atlanta, no question.

Yeah. I am a bandwagoner. Never been a Bruinfan before this thread. Are your parents brother & sister?

Radiofan, like YOU, posted an idiotic score prediction. Felt like publically demonstrating a lack of intelligence. Just like YOU did. I noted it.

I agree with you on this....but this one mattered and UCLA did what it took.
Neither team looked real sharp though and really only Afflalo played what I would call a good game. It was definitely interesting to watch.

Seer -- Just in case you were curious, that U&L guy UCLA recruited (the Parade Mag Player of the Year, and the POY of every other organization that names such things, including McDonald's) finished up the season...
34pts. 17 boards. 4 dimes. 3 blocks.
And broke 1 backboard.

Even in FSU's darkest hour, they were still better than the bruins.

No fan in his right mind would change routines during tournament winning streaks...
So to answer your question, yeah, I guess so....
