Black Friday

Post by Dan Vogel »

It wasn't my best day yesterday. First thing I had a flat tire on the way to work. Well I pulled off the road a bit and monkeyed around some with the hubcap but couldn't get it off, and it was drizzling a little. I gave up and just got back in my car. But apparently I had gotten some grease on my hands and I smugged my slacks with a big black spot on right upper thigh part. Damn that! After sitting for a short time two men saw I had trouble and they stopped and actually changed the tire for me. I was really pretty thankful and told them that and also that they gave me faith that there is still a lot of good in the world.

I was late for work and my boss chewed me out. Because I had been late twice before this month, but those were only by less than 10 minutes each time. I explained that I got a flat tire, and showed him my greasy hands and even slacks, but he was in a bad mood and wasn't ready to hear anything from me. He got abrasive and I just took it. Not much else to do. He's boss at our place.

Stress was building up a lot for me after this happened and then right after lunch I got a bloody nose. It's never happened before to me, and it wouldn't stop. As soon as I plugged it and it stopped I put my head back normal and it would start to bleed fresh again. Man it just wouldn't let up. I think it was too much pressure on me yesterday. So you know what I did? I layed down on the floor of the office. Yeah, and wouldn;t you know it my boss happened to walk by. He looked in at me and I saw him just stand still for a moment and shake his head. I tried to speak but he just walked away. Later in the afternoon my nose did stop bleeding. But even now today it's kind of sore and tender. I'm scared too about my bosses opinion of me now. This is not really good.

Yeah, and then the topper. We had a neighborhood subdivision barbeque last Sunday. I took pictures of a lot of our neighbors and I took one big group picture of all the people. There was maybe 20 or 25 people. Adults and childfen. Well the pictures I took got developed and I picked them up at the drug mart on the way home from work yesterday. In the group picture Tony is standing on the end and guess what? He's got his right hand down his leg with his hand balled up and the middle finger extended. It's unmistakable and obvious that he decided to give the camera the single finger salute. I wasn't the only neighborhood person to take a picture of the group. Probably other people have a similar picture, with my Tony flipping the bird to everyone.

I almost hit the roof! What I did was immediately walk outside and take a walk. Then I did deep breathing. And relaxing. If I had confronted Tony right then something bad might have happened. I let it rest until today. I will have some timewith him today. I may take him for a malt and just try to turn it into a friendly discussion instead of just going off on him, like my boss does with me. We'll see how it goes.

It feels good to get some of this out and thanks for listening. I hope you are all doing well this week.

Rack you for handling your boss like that, Dan. It takes a big man to be able to do what you did. The devil in all of us wants to flex our testosterone and fly off the handle before thinking things out. You're a major stud for acting like a pussy in key situations.

Changing your own tire isn't exactly a right of passage or anything. A lot of big time athletes, actors, and executives would never change their own tire. You just moved yourself up three levels in life's power rankings. The biggest risk you run in asking for help is getting shot by a Russian like that Cosby kid. What are the odds of that? Pretty slim compared to the odds of you being a big shot by the end of the year if you keep up this pattern of behavior.

Thanks Rootbeer. The tire had to be replaced, and that put me out almost a hundred dollars. But things are off to a better start this week. The boss is in a better mood for some reason. I won't wonder why. I'll just go with it.

If he'd just stop hanging around with that Gilbert Bates kid, he might not get into as much trouble as he does.

Don't be a creep, rootbeer, I might have to sock ya.

Gilberts mom is sort of attached to the house. Attached isn't really the right word, she's pretty much wedged in.
