yup, they were from Norman, OK. or maybe "are" again. they did a few records in a kind of glam rock/new york dolls/aladdin sane thing with a healthy dose of sarcastic americana thrown in the mix. the front man, Tyson Meade was previously in another local Norman band called defenestration. who were, to my mind, a better band than the Kittens. but, def imploded over creative issues and had a record released on restless in about 86 (Dali Does Windows) that they felt the producer totally fucked up (and having heard all those same songs live inna day, i'd tend to agree). the original def EP is a prized possession among OK music collectors.

the Kittens were on whatever Smashing Pumpkins label in the 90's and may have opened for them. not sure about the latter.

this article is the one people always refer to...FWIW.

I first heard of them in the late 90s. One of my coworkers was into that kind of shit. Helmut, chainsaw kittens and other stuff that gave me headaches.

Trashy kinda' glam looking band who had a cd produced by James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins fame. Being a glam fan, I gave one of their cds a spin and wasn't very impressed. Slightly noisy, if I remember correctly.
Yadda, yadda, yadda.
