Looks like the British are "playing ball" with Ira

And good for them. Time to put this nonsense behind us.
Sudden release of Iranian diplomat raises hope for end to British standoff.
"TEHRAN, Iran: The sudden release of an Iranian diplomat missing for two months in Iraq raised new hope Tuesday that 15 British sailors and marines seized by Iran may soon be freed.
It also suggests the standoff over the captive Britons may end with a de facto prisoner swap — something both Tehran and London have publicly discounted."

One Iranian "diplomat" for 15 British sailors seems like a fair trade.

How do you like that?
Your crooked-toothed, tomb-breathed allies "going all wobbly"...
At least you still have Azerbaijan and Moldova watching your back.

No kidding. From the footage I've seen, they might as well have been sitting in some greasy, American fake pub,
talking about what school they went to and how fucking horrible the Persian Gulf weather is on their blotchy skin.
The Red Cross needs to send toothbrushes. Seriously.

Actually NPR had a wealth of information on the whole story and none of it really reflects very well on the Limeys
For instance, they no longer train their military to resist their captors. Rather it's "Go along with whatever they want; it's not worth getting a beating over"
And apparently the Destroyer the limey captives called home was less than a mile away at the time the Revolutionary Guards pulled off the snatch & grab. What the fuck, you might ask, was the captain of the destroyer doing while all this was going on? Either he was in his quarters doing a cabin boy, or he was following his rules of engagement, although it doesn't make much difference which.

Funny - you listened to the NPR coverage, and I listened to the local right-wing radio outlet.
They have a daily political poll. Today, the question is, "do you support Blair's use of diplomacy rather than force in this situation?" Overwhelmingly, the responses were negative.
Y'all are some seriously deluded mofos.

He was. Evidently he was told to stand down.
Who is the regional commander of coalition forces?
Please don't tell me the British Navy acts independantly of the Americans. Don't even think of peddling that horseshit.

Some guy named "Ira"?

They didn't have a poll option for "it's none of our business"?
Thanks for the first laugh of the day.

And do tell, PSS-Fan, to which demogogic radio hack were you listening? And was the issue raised as to which response worked better: the Brits this time, or the Americans' in 1979?
Let's see, the Brits admitted they were meddling (what 5,000 miles away from their sotted island?), apologized and moved on. The Americans, on the other hand, hunkered down, fucked up the "rescue mission," grimaced, sabre-rattled, and pinched its collective anus for a year or so before electing a SENILE president who immediately exacerbated the whole mess with a series of extremely illegal arms sales, drug-running, and death squads (in Nicaragua).
And now....the most astonishingly immature and stupid president in history has spun himself and the nation into its WORST geo-political position in the nation's history--complete with ludicrous mouthings concerning a war against "pure evil."
This time the Brits got it right.

Yet there are dumbfucks who still argue that Jimmy Carter wasn't the worst president of anything, ever.
before electing a SENILE president who immediately exacerbated the whole mess with a series of extremely illegal arms sales, drug-running, and death squads (in Nicaragua).
1. In Reagan's defense, he didn't go senile until late into the first Bush presidency. I blame the Bush Family
2. If by "immediately" you mean half-way into his second term, then, yeah. And I really don't see your beef with drug running or death squads. You support Castro, don't you?

While I can't argue with your evaluation of Chimpy's intellect, I must point out that although he may be the dumbest president, Carter has insurmountable bode in the "worst" category
This time the Brits got it right.
Not even the Limeys believe that. The recriminations & second-guessing have already begun

After watching the press conference this morning with the released brits, I suspect you will see things handled a little differently in the shat an arab or waterever the fukk it is they call that place.
The royal navy might not be what it used to be, but, I think they are a little pissed off now and I suspect you are gonna see some iranian fukks get their boat blowed right the fukk out from underneath them very soon.
Since when has the Iranian "navy", if you can call it that done anything more than pirating operations, which, apparently is what they are up to.
We need to inform the Iraqis that if they put anything that looks threatening in the water anywhere near Iraqi territory, it will get blowed up. They obviously will do it. Then we smoke'em.

There are three traditions of the British Navy: Rum, Buggery & the Lash.
If they were getting 2 out of 3, you can bet they had to be ordered to go home

Stepped on the gas a little harder when you drove past the recruiting office the other day, GI Jew?
You're all ready to send someone else off to fight your wars, of course.

The only thing you're drilling is your boyfriend's backside-bagel.

.. I laughed my arse off.
It was brilliant watching them try and make it sound as horrible as possible without actually lying. Apparently, the Iranians:
- played 'mind games' with them.
- they were made to sit in a chilly room, sans comrades.
- told they might go to prison.
It's not like they were covered in excrement, had the bible pissed on and hooked up to a live panel. All I saw was some really brilliant Iranian cut suits.
Anyway, they're a proud yet humble race of people, we could learn something from them but instead we have our leaders insisting the sailors didn't drift into Iranian waters. Yeah right, 14 men and 1 woman, guess who had the compass.

I should move there, it sounds ideal.
Those nice Revolutionary Guardsmen would ensure that vagabond, kerchief-wearing imperialists wouldn't spoil my weekend sailboat ride by pointing machine guns at me and kicking over my nice picnic lunch.
